This is a simple request for feedback. I'm curious about what exactly makes a game cause you to decide you want to buy and/or download it.

Remember: the question is "what makes you decide to try it?" not "What do you like finding in a game that you have already bought and/or downloaded?"

Myself, the most important things to me in the selection process are the concept, reviews I've read, and a good price. I also like seeing multiplayer and a good story.

After I get the game, almost all of the things I listed in the voting options are important to me, but that isn't what this poll is about, now is it?

Personally the things I look at most before buying a game are as follows: A good price is always important because if it is too expensive, then it isn't worth it. A game that is my genre technically catches my interest because I am not going to waste my money or my time buying a game I don't even like. Finally I think a good amount of content makes a game replayable, both factors I find to be very important in a good game. I also want it to be challenging and a bit lengthy so I can get a good play out of it, what good is it if the game is over and done with in 5 minutes? So good price, good amount of content which makes the game addicting will determine if I buy it or not. Also though I do like to read on other people's feedback and reviews of the game because I really want to get a good buy for my money and I don't want to just settle for anything, that also plays a part in my final decision. I also take in other things like if it is a series, how the other games in that series have done in the past. That doesn't guarantee that I will buy the game or not, but I do take it into consideration when I am on the fence about buying a game.

Other things like catchy music and good graphics are just a nice bonus in my opinion and they shouldn't really be the deciding factor in whether you want to play the game or not, while the are nice to have in a game, I don't think they should be the one thing that makes your final decision for you, but they are nice bonuses in any good game. So I guess you could say the reviews and feedback people give, a good plot to the game and also a good price will determine whether I buy a game or not, there is also a combination of other little factors that play a part in my decision, but those are the main ones that matter to me. Everything else is just extra to the game the way I see it. Good thread Eirinn.

The most important factor is whether I know anyone who plays it. I play games for their social aspect above all other reasons, so if I know there's someone with whom I can game that makes the difference between a game considered better (but I'll be the only one playing it) and a game that is slightly worse but my friends play it.

The second most important factor are the reviews and game play. If the reviews say that the game is horrible, I'm not getting it. If the reviews mention glitches, I wait for a future version to come out. I hate buying a game with no clue how it's like. For game play, I look at whether it's sandbox or not. If it's sand box, that's an automatic plus to buy it. Of course, there are exceptions, but they're usually from factor number 3.

The third most important factor are past versions and other games from the producer. I bought Portal 2 without any hesitation since the first Portal was amazing. If the producer has made other games that I like, then I will be more likely to check it out. I bought Lego Lord of the Rings without hesitation after Lego Indiana Jones for Wii, Lego Star Wars for Wii, and Lego Star Wars I and II for another console turned out to be excellent. It's a matter of trust. I trust producers of extremely quality games to keep up their standards and I'll keep buying their games.

Once I have found the games that I like, then I look for cheaper prices. A bargain is still a rip-off if I had no intention of buying the game and never played it afterward, so I make sure to bargain hunt for specific games and types of games. If I can't get a good price, I just head over to Walmart and pick it up.

So, I really put price below all else when it comes to buying games, which results in having a smaller game collection of games that I play a lot, versus a bunch of games that I don't play at all.

I would have to say good graphics for starters, if a game doesn't have this I run away. I also like a good concept and I have to make sure the reviews that other game buyers posted for that game are decent and to my liking. IF it's a bunch of negative reviews most times I am like forget that game.. sometimes I give it a shot though it just depends on what type of game it is and if I am interested.

Razor-987 : Thank you. And thanks for the informative reply. It helped me understand the mind of one of my fellow gamers, and I would have to agree with everything you said there. Price is the first thing I look at when I just go shopping for a game, then genre and content. The Rating and reviews both also matter.

EideticMemory : I somehow think that summon will fail.
Anyway, thank you for that reply, it was very thought provoking, and informative. I especially liked that you explained each reason and gave a list in order of importance, along with the reasoning of why they were as important as they were.

Thank you to all that have posted here so far. I hope to see more feedback soon.

Well here's what I look for in a game. I usually go down the list and if the game at least passes my expectations then I would consider getting it

Graphics, Sound and Game play - let's face it if a game doesn't do good in this area its not gonna be a good game.
Content - I'd generally like to be able to play the game for a while and not just put it down after beating the story.
Story - A good story is key in a game I wanna enjoy what's happening in the game not just do anything.
Genre - If it's not a genres I'll enjoy then I won't get it. I don't really like racing games and don't like many of them except Need For Speed.

I'd also look at it depending on how big the hype is about it. Then I'd look at some gameplay videos and if I like what I see then I'm on board. The game I'm really looking forward too now is Watchdogs.

The way I go about buying games is I look around, see something interesting,
read a review or 2 and see if its worth my time.
