Mine was a Nintendo DS. I believe I was... 10? Maybe 11 at the oldest. I played the ever-living crap out of that thing, out of games like Pokemon Gen 4 & 5, Metroid Prime Hunters, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, Sonic Rush, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Star Fox Command *sigh* Good times...

This sounds weird, but my first handheld was technically a 3DS.

I've been playing games on emulators for years, namely Pokemon. Like Crystal (which was the first Pokemon game that I played, actually), Emerald, Heartgold, Firered, Red, Yellow, stuff like that. I only got a 3DS for Pokemon X and Y, and then I got into the 3DS' library, which is actually pretty good.

My first handheld console was a Gameboy Colour, though the Gameboy was see-through which was neat, I was about 4 when I got it. Pokemon Blue was the game I got with it and I couldn't get past the first gym leader. How embarrassing.

My first handheld console was the original Game Boy Advance when I was 6. You know, the one that needed AA batteries, had no front or backlighting, and couldn't flip closed? That one. First game on it was Sonic Advance 2. I got an SP soon after, which I lost recently on a plane trip
I still have that very first one, though. Good times...

Game boy in 1990, I had just turned 20 and a girl I was dating at the time picked it up for my Birthday present. She gave me a couple games 8 days later for Christmas.

Wow, I had the same as you! A green Game Boy Color. I guess the only difference was that I'm American so it was specifically a Color rather than a Colour. Technically I had one of those brick games when I was really young, but I know my first proper handheld was that GBC. I must have been about 4-ish years old, don't really remember. It was my cousin's originally. He gave me 4 games too, Link's Awakening, Pokémon Pinball, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, and this very "meh" Harry Potter RPG. And trust me, when you're that young and those are the only games you have (not to mention by then the GBA was out by then and they weren't making GBC games anymore), you make 4 games last a really long time. Heck, I've still only ever bought two more GB/GBC games since then. And I sold the Harry Potter one at that.

My first handheld console was a Gameboy Advanced. I adored that thing when I got it for my 4th birthday. In fact, this is the first gaming system I ever played before. So many memories.  I love you Pokemon Gold <3

Don't remember my exact age but I think I got my first handheld either during 1st or 2nd grade from my mom's friend. It was a green gameboy pocket and I got 4 games the only one which I remember for sure is Pokemon Silver. The others were some Diddy Kong game, a game themed around the superhero the flash and cartridge with a few different games most notably a tom and Jerry inspired platformer.

I played on it quite a bit mostly Pokemon Silver and it was the game that introduced me to the series. Unfortunately I never got very fare into the game because it was riddled with problems. I couldn't charge the gameboy which meant I had to keep buying new batteries for it and my copy of Pokemon Silver didn't allow me to save properly which coupled with the fact that my English was pretty lackluster and I couldn't find out how to get past the tree in Ilex Forest. Regardless I still remembering absolutely adoring the game.

The gameboy stopped working and I'm not really sure if I still have it somewhere or threw it away.

My first handheld console I had was a LCD game called Alien Attack, made by the toy company Tomy. I was 5 when I first played it but it got damaged by my oldest nephew a few years later, when he spewed on it while he was feeling ill. I've managed to buy another one in mint condition on eBay back in 2006 but under a different title called Scramble (at that time I didn't realised that both Alien Attack & Scramble were the same game) & still have the collectible item with me as of now.
