A-Rod will only be suspended for 162 games, not 212. He will miss the entire 2014 season, including the playoffs (if the Yankees make it). He will, however, be able to play in spring training. The Yankees will save $24.1 million because of this suspension. Thoughts?

I kind of feel bad for A-Rod. MLB is using him as an example. There are tons of baseball players that use performance enhancing drugs, but they are being hard on A-Rod because he is a big name player and they want to show other players that they will get penalized. I guarantee you that AT LEAST 40% of MLB players use or have used performance enhancing drugs at some point in their lives. I understand that they need to penalize the players, but using A-Rod as an example is not fair to him. I think he should have gotten a 50 game ban, just like all of the other players associated with the whole Biogenesis thing.

Only thought on this is that it is stupid as hell that the Yankees get to save 24 million dollars because of this.

If you sign a player to a contract, you are making an investment. You are responsible for that player because he is under contract to YOUR baseball club.

Honestly, the suspension length isn't important to me, it's the money issue. This allows the Yankees wiggle room they don't deserve.

My ideal situation is that A-Rod is suspended (because he deserves it) and the money the Yankees save from this get invested into a charity for healthy living (but it won't, it's going to Tanaka, and that's stupid.)

Okay I'm going to sound off here

A-Fraud should have been kicked out of the game. It is obvious he cheated. I also think Bonds, Clemens, Sosa and McGuire should all be banned from baseball and all their stats erased. If baseball is going to allow these cheaters to stay in the game it is time to let Pete Rose back in the game. What Pete did was and is wrong I'm not denying that. But to allow cheaters that have tarnished the game and broken records in is just not right. Either ban them all including Pete Rose, or let Pete Rose back in.

I'm a huge fan of the game and I think it is a shame that stats belong to those who tarnished. This is just my opinion. But I think the home run Record should still stand at 61

tornadocam : So we should also kick David Ortiz, Ryan Braun, Rafael Betancourt, Bartolo Colon, Ryan Frankiln, Michael Morse, Mike Cameron, Jose Guillen, J.C. Romero, Manny Ramirez, Edinson Volquez, Marlon Byrd, Melky Cabrera, Yasmani Grandal, Carlos Ruiz, Nelson Cruz, Johnny Peralta, Evereth Cabrera, Antonio Bastardo, Francisco Cervelli, Miguel Tejada, and more out of baseball and erase of of their stats too, right? If we kicked out every player that uses PEDs, there would be no one left.

I would not have a problem with that, but the sad thing as you said nobody is left. However, I do wish Pete Rose would get put back in. As he has had his punishment and what he did wasn't the worst thing in sports.

I just like the game and would like for it to be cleaned up. I think the game has gotten much cleaner.

Not to throw stones in glass houses, but the team that would be the most affected would be the Yankees, given how so many players who use steroids work their way to New York.

So I'd actually be perfectly ok with that.

Also, the difference between A-Rod/Braun and players like David Ortiz... is that steroid use was proven by the former, and in the latter case it's only an allegation.

From Wikipedia

"On the same day, the Major League Baseball Players Association issued a statement pointing out that because of several factors, any player appearing on the list compiled by the federal government in 2003 did not necessarily test positive for performance enhancing drugs. Among those factors were that the total number of players said to be on the list far exceeded the number of collected specimens that tested positive. In addition, there were questions raised regarding the lab that performed the testing and their interpretation of the positive tests. Also, the statement pointed out that certain legal supplements that were available over the counter at the time could possibly cause a positive test result."

The point being you can't kick players like David Ortiz out until drug use is proven, as it has been with A-Rod and Braun.

Kick the true cheaters like those two out, and keep those who are only alledgedly guilty until you catch them. We call it innocent until PROVEN guilty for a reason.

Did not Alexander Rodriguez had been suspended for taking drugs such as steroids and more? If so, that would be terrible to end a career like that. I had been listening to this on a television the previous night. Damn!

"Rodriguez, who has admitted previously to using illegal performance-enhancing drugs from 2001 through 2003 and denied using them since, tested positive for a banned stimulant in 2006, his third season with the Yankees. Rodriguez didn’t face discipline because a player must test positive for stimulants twice before his name becomes public"

tgags123 : That was quite a list, I think tornado is right about PEDs resulting in being banned from playing, but you are also right, because if they all were gone, there would be no one playing. And to using him as an example, that would never work, players will still use PEDs without worry, especially the less popular players.

Wow that's a lot of games. Kind of stupid how you said 24 million SAVED. (No offence) People use drugs all the time and they don't even get caught or suspended. But what it meant to be 200 games is a lot and huge. I feel very bad for him because he misses the whole 2014 season.. :/

It's plain sad.  I once remember saying "Congratulations Barry Bonds on breaking the HR record. Enjoy it while you can because A-Rod's gonna smash it in a few years." Now with the A-Rod drama, the hopes got dashed. I did like A-Rod's 1st homerun coming off injury and suspension appeal. Roids had nothing to do with it, the pitcher beaned him earlier in the game and that pissed him off. He bore his fangs and knocked it into the upper deck.
