Chronological Timeline of the Pokémon
Universe: My Theory

Hello, users of Vizzed! This time, I
bring you a theoretical thread revolving around the events of the Pokémon
universe in chronological order. Please note that I will be discussing the world
of the Pokémon games, the core of the franchise, and not the world of the
anime. Also, take into account that this is heavily based on theory and little
scraps of evidence hidden within the games. This is not official canon.
Finally, a disclaimer: Spoiler alert! Thank you, people, and please enjoy the
speculation! Let’s begin with Generation One, which consists of the events of
Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen Versions. These events are
pretty much the same. While you could select the female character, Leaf, to
play as in FireRed and LeafGreen Versions, I am going to assume it is only Red
who conquered the Champion and went on the whole adventure, as it is him you
fight with in Generation Two games, and not Leaf. So, before we get into that,
I will quickly go over the prehistory of the Pokémon universe. In a world of
complete chaos and nothingness, a single egg came into being. From it hatched
‘The Original One’ Arceus, also known as the Alpha Pokémon, and is supposed to
be the god of the Pokémon universe. It then formed Dialga, ruler of time,
Palkia, ruler of space, and Giratina, ruler of antimatter. For its destructive
nature, Giratina was banished to the Distortion World. After successfully
creating the Pokémon universe and Pokémon world, Dialga and Palkia retreated to
their home dimensions. Later, Arceus created Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf to teach
humans knowledge, emotion, and willpower respectively. Kyogre was formed deep
in the ocean, Groudon was formed deep in the Earth, and Rayquayza was formed
high in the ozone layer. Kyogre and Groudon then went on the fill the sea and
create the land respectively, but due to their opposite natures, they clashed a
lot. Whenever this occurred, Rayqyayza flew down to Sky Pillar to put an end to
their quarrel. Afterwards, Regigigas moved the continents around, which
resulted in the regions. The three golems, Regirock, Registeel, and Reggice
were formed in this procedure. Now that all of the prehistory is out of the
way, let’s go back to the events of Generation One. A boy by the name of Red sets
off on a journey to become the Champion. He earns all eight Kanto Badges, and
defeats the evil Team Rocket, who were trying to steal Pokémon. He makes his
way through the Elite Four and eventually beats the current Champion, who, to
his surprise, is his all-time rival Blue Oak. After a battle, he defeats Blue
and becomes the Champion himself. One individual Team Rocket Grunt vows that he
will someday resurrect Team Rocket, which becomes the new issue in Johto, three
years later. At the same time Red was taking his journey through the Kanto
region, Brendan/May set out for his/her adventure in the region of Hoenn.
Stopping the villainous Team Magma(R)/Team Aqua(S)/Team Magma and Aqua(E) from
awakening the legendary Pokémon, and occasionally meeting up with his/her
rivals, Brendan/May and Wally, a sickly child who cares about Pokémon dearly,
he/she obtains all eight Badges and enters the Pokémon League. After defeating
Steven(RS)/Wallace(E), Brendan/May becomes the new Champion of the Hoenn
region.  Proof of the events of
Generations One and Three taking place simultaneously is in the similarities in
locations and legendaries in the games, such as Ho-oh and Lugia in the Navel
Rock and Deoxys in Birth Island. The Sevii Islands are accessible in Pokémon
FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald Versions. Also, the ability to trade Pokémon
back and forth between the Generation Three games and Generation One remakes
without the use of a time capsule or any other indication of at time gap leads
to the only conclusion that they occurred in the same time period. Now for the
events that took place before Generations One/Three and Two/Four. Red gave up
his position as Indigo League Champion and left to Mt. Silver for unknown
reasons. Meanwhile, there was an eruption at Cinnabar Island, causing Fire-Type
Gym Leader Blaine to relocate his Gym to Seafoam Islands. Also, Lorelei and
Agatha gave up their positions as Elite Four members, and Will and Karen
replaced them. Bruno remained an Elite Four member. Koga left the Fuchsia City
Gym in the care of his daughter, Janine, while he joined the Indigo League
Elite Four. With no one as the Champion, as Red had left, Lance quits the Elite
Four as well, and becomes the new Champion. After being defeated, Giovanni gave
up his place as Vermillion City Gym Leader, as Team Rocket had disbanded. Blue
took his place. Then, the events of Generation Two, or Gold, Silver, Crystal,
HeartGold, and SoulSilver Versions and Generation Four, or Diamond, Pearl, and
Platinum Versions took place. Ethan(GSCHGSS)/Kris(C)/Lyra(HGSS),  leaves New Bark Town, his/her hometown, and
borrows one of the Johto starter Pokémon to defend him/herself while running an
errand for Professor Elm. After completing the task, Professor Elm notes that
the Pokémon has developed a close bond with Ethan/Kris/Lyra, and lets him/her
keep it. Also, he encourages him/her to take the Pokémon League Challenge,
which he/she does. After collecting all eight badges and occasionally running
into Silver, making him a better person throughout the game, Ethan/Kris/Lyra
challenges and defeats the newly-formed Indigo League Elite Four. Soon after,
he/she wins against the Champion, Lance, making him/her the new Champion of the
Indigo League. Later, the Kanto region is accessible, and Ethan/Kris/Lyra
competes against the mostly same Gym Leaders (aside from Koga and Giovanni) Red
had beaten three years prior. After earning Gym Badges from all of them,
Ethan/Kris/Lyra ventures to Mt. Silver for one final battle against Red. After
being defeated, Red vanishes, and what becomes of him next is unknown. Around
the same time Ethan/Kris/Lyra was on his/her journey through Johto and Kanto,
Lucas/Dawn of the Sinnoh region is going through his/her own adventure. With
some occasional encounters with his/her rival by the name of Barry, Lucas/Dawn
travels through the Sinnoh region in an attempt to obtain all eight regional
Badges. In an attempt to create a new universe without emotion on the peak of
Mt. Coronet, the head of villainous Team Galactic, Cyrus, harnesses the powers
of Dialga and Palkia, which I have mentioned somewhere closer to the beginning
of this thread, to use the powers of space and time to awaken a new,
emotionless universe in his image. Despite his efforts, his plans are foiled by
Lucas/Dawn, who has also made an encounter with Giratina. As a result, Team
Galactic disbands. Then, Lucas/Dawn takes the Pokémon League challenge and
defeats the Elite Four and Cynthia, the Champion. Therefore, he/she becomes new
Champion of the Sinnoh region. Evidence of the events of Generations Two and
Four occurring at the same time is Jasmine’s statement in HeartGold and
SoulSilver Versions indicating that she wanted to participate in a Pokémon
Contest in Sinnoh, and the fact that she can be found in Sunnyshore City
(located in Sinnoh, of course) in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Versions. More
proof is given right in the beginning of Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Versions
when Lucas/Dawn is watching a report on a Red Gyarados, the same Shiny one in
Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver Versions. Next up is
Generation Five. While it is confirmed that the events of Black and White took
place after Generations Two and Four (therefore, after Generations One and
Three as well), it is still not clear exactly how much later. Proof of it
occurring later is a cameo appearance of a Team Rocket Grunt in HeartGold and
SoulSilver who vowed to resurrect Team Rocket once again. He is found in Unova,
in a small house. He says he tried to bring back Team Rocket, but gave up after
he got married. Him having a son indicates that time has, indeed, passed since
Generation Two, and therefore, Generation Four. Also, Cynthia makes a comment
on how the player character, Hilbert/Hilda reminds her somewhat of Lucas/Dawn.
Anyway, unknown number of years after Generations Two and Four (and One and
Three), the events of Black and White (first part of Generation Five) happened.
Hilbert/Hilda left his/her hometown with his/her rivals, Cheren and Bianca and
collects all Badges. Also, he/she discovers the motives of the mysterious N,
and disbands the evil Team Plasma, who were trying to liberate all Pokémon.
Then, he/she defeated the Elite Four and Alder, making him/her the new Unova
League Champion. Soon after, though between the events of Black and White and
Black 2 and White, Hilbert/Hilda gives up his/her place as Champion, and leaves
the Unova region to look for N. Also, Bianca officially becomes Professor
Juniper’s assistant. Brycen quits as a Gym Leader and enters the show biz, and
Cilan, Cress, and Chili resign as well. Lenora does the same. Two new Gym
Leaders, Marlon and Roxie, are introduced, and Cheren becomes a new Gym Leader.
Also, Alder gives his place as Champion to Iris. Then, the events of Black 2 and
White 2 begin. Nate/Rosa, along with his/her rival, Hugh, leaves Aspertia City
to become the Champion. He/she earns all eight badges and defeats the new Team
Plasma and Ghetsis, and succeeds in becoming the Unova League Champion. The end
(for now)! It is currently unknown when the events of Generation Six, or X and
Y Versions, fit into the timeline, so I didn’t include them. I hope you enjoyed
this thread, everyone! Remember, this is not official canon, but just a popular
theory that many fans agree with. Do you agree with it? If not, why? Do you
have a theory of your own? Or do you simply assume the events of all the
Generations went in order according to their numbers? Let me know in your
replies, and thank you for reading! NintendoFanKimmy, out!
