GRAPHICS The first thing you notice is the different title screen on this particular hack. As I'm typing this as I play, I can't say for sure, but it seems to have the map of the game plus two new trainer sprites. The sprites themselves seem well made and do not detract from playing either male or female characters in this game.
Ouch, when you begin, and click BOY, it shows the old RED sprite instead of the new character. However, when inputting your name, it then switches. Still, that does subtract from it a bit. It'd have been nice if the maker had superimposed the new image over the old one.
Oh! The in game character sprite for the boy character is well done. I like how they did the hair. After stepping outside of my house, I noticed the town is new. It's all iced over! This is pretty exciting, and it is nicely done.
Sadly, the first NPC I spoke to (besides my mother) was the Sign Girl. Except, there is no sign. She let me see the sign that doesn't exist, then moved right back where she was. It was weird.
Then there is a sign that says OAK RESEARCH LAB, but has no door.
Nor can you enter Green's House.
It's also apparently still pallet Town, from one sign, even though it's also BENYUAN.
One good thing is that it stops you from encountering pokemon before you have any. Props for that.
Err, i think ALL the signs are going to be wrong in this game. That's bad. And the next NPC tells you that you can jump ledges to get back to pallet Town, even though there are no ledges and no Pallet Town.
SOUND
Oddly enough, there is no music in the first town.
There was music during the first scene with your father, but going back to that route shows that there is no more music.
The next city is apparently Lavender Town, as the music shows plus with every NPC saying what Lavender Town people said in FireRed.
ADDICTIVENESS
It's not very addictive. The no sound at the start thing really puts a damper on it all, and the only music I've heard was Pokecenter and Lavender Town creepy music. The NPCs ruined it for me too. I don't think I'll finish this game or pick it up again.
STORY
Oh, you have a father in this one... Who promptly dies by Team Magma, who apparently isn't Team Magma. Team Aqua (who also isn't Team Aqua) takes him away and you have to tell your mom. Upon telling her, she gives you an eevee. No choice there, sadly. She runs away.
And then your dad does die. The story, because of the horrible unchanged NPCs, doesn't really add up. All the NPCs take away from it, and even though the graphics are kind of nice, and the story IS new and different, it's just not good enough. If the maker changed what all the NPCs say, it would be a lot better.
DEPTH
Seeing how I put it down before getting too far, I can't really say. I only ran into two pokemon in route 1, Swinub and Whopper. Swinub I understand, but Whopper doesn't seem a very icy area type of pokemon to me.
DIFFICULTY
The pokemon I ran into early game were leveled at 2 and 3. It's not all that hard.
