I'm in my 30s and I always called my grandparents grandma and grandpa.  Now all my uncles and aunts are becoming grandparents and they want names like Grampz and Gramz, G-Daddy, things like that.  They want to be hip and popular.

The question is a two-parter.  How old are you and what do you call your grandparents?

I've always thought this was an interesting question.  Growing up, I really only had one set of grandparents that I knew, and felt it perfectly normal. It wasn't until I was older that I realized everyone really had two sets of grandparents and most people knew both sets.

That being said, I'm 26.  I call, and always have called, my grandparents 'Papa and Grandma'.  That will never change. I can't imagine using or condoning anything like the examples you gave. That's just... weird.  Why would they want those names?  lol

warmaker :

I am thirty… When my grandparents were still around I would refer to them as Grandpa and Grandma or Gramp or Gram for short. I was fortunate to have several grandparents and one great grandparent in my life, I miss them very much. Depending on the grandparent I use to use nicknames for them when I was younger, but was always respectful.

I haven’t had children, but I can somewhat relate to wanting to appeal to the younger members of the family. I am an uncle to six kids and although all call me uncle, I don’t mind if they simply call me by my name so long as their respectful. I have similar relationship with one of my aunts in that I often call her by name without calling her aunt first. I think as long as there is respect there really shouldn’t be an issue, but it also boils down to the individual. As for me all I want from my nieces and nephews is to be respected and someone that they can talk to if need be.

I don't see much need to type my name. (Just hover the cursor over my name). As for what I call my grandparents. I call them granma and grampa. In formal situations I refer to them as grandfather and grandmother.

I am 18 and.. My family has always called my grandmother MAMA JO and my other grandmother Grandma Martha. Both of my grandfathers have passed. When my grandpa was still alive I called him Paw-Paw and Poppie Paw. I never met my other grandfather as of he was already passed before I met him. I miss my paw-paw so much. I wouldn't call the names I give them Hip or anything.. it all just came naturel. Many people get crazy though with it.. I know this much.

I basically just call them grandma and grandpa which is pretty basic and simple, but when I am referring to them formally I at the father and mother at the end making it grandmother and grandfather. Other than that I really don't have any creative or specific nicknames or anything that I call them. So I just call them grandma and grandpa whenever I see them. I don't have any strange names like G-daddy or any strange nicknames in which I address my grandparents, I probably couldn't think of any and they would probably look at me weird and my parents wouldn't allow it XD. Interesting question topic though.

I'm 14. I call them Buna and Bunu, "good" in both the feminine and masculine Romanian form of the word. My parents and grandparents are Romanian immigrants, so that's what I call them, like tons of other kids in Romania. I get tons of odd looks at school or events, though, but I don't mind. On a similar note, I call my mother 'Mami,' which sounds a lot like the English 'Mommy.' So I've had people tease me for saying I talk like a six-year-old.

I'm 17. I call my grandmother "grandma", but I don't see her very often. Both my grandpas have been deceased for decades so have never spoken to them.

I am fifteen, and I call both my grandmas (dad's mom and mom's mom) grandma, which is plain and normal. I call one of my grandpas (dad's stepdad, and I have never met my dad's real dad) grandpa, which is also plain and normal. My mom's dad though... I call him Bibo because when I was really young, my family wanted tried to get me to call him grandpa in Spanish (since my family speaks both Spanish and English and Bibo isn't very good at speaking in English), and it came out as Bibo... and I never bother to call him anything else ^^;
