I thing good grades show an ability to learn the importance of hard work, perservereance, dedication and heart.  It is very difficult to grasp the whole reality of the previous sentence.  Those atributes I listed are very adult and responsible, and good grades reflect an ability that the person getting good grades excels at learning how to be a decent human being.

Good grades can be recognized at a young age and (this is cool) this means that very deep things are being comprehended by young people.
So keep getting good grades kids!!!

I am currently in 11th Grade and Good grades mean very much to me for instance it shows my mom that I am independent and are responsible. It also helps me prove to myself that if I work hard studying for a test or quiz or anything in General it will pay off.

Yeah I agree with knockout, it basically shows responsibility, independence and your understanding of knowledge and the real world and how it works. It also shows that you are young and dedicated and responsible for what you do and the decisions that you make.

I believe that maintaining good grades are very important and should be a priority for children. I believe that all the hard work and dedication you put into school, studying and working hard and getting good grades all pays off in the end. So that is the significance that I find in getting good grades. To this day they still mean a lot to me and they always will. Good question by the way.

What are good grades to me? Good grades are stepping stones to knowledge and success in life. It shows independence, and the fact that you want freedom and independence in life. Immature kids that want jobs like Football players? Well Football players also got good grades, but they used physical, not mental. Physical grades are good, but mental grades have a role in life. Mental grades show significance in your education. Every grade counts. Intentionally getting bad grades your whole life is like back-stabbing God, because he put you on this planet to give you freedom and independence.

Let me play the devil's advocate and discuss grades from a different perspective.

Grades are great for assessing students in what they know, right? To maintain them shows that you care (to some extent) about school and that you generally do your work. Generally, those who do get grades are better than people who don't in things like time management, etc. I mean... generally having good grades makes you a generally intelligent person; or that's what society seems to portray.

My first issue with grades is how they're assessed. By different means, people are graded differently on different subjects based on what varying teachers deems fit. Grading destroys the purpose of learning whether you know it or not. In elective classes, like Art- you can be given a bad grade for unreasonable things and you can't do a thing about it. The same goes for writing. It teaches people that there are wrong approaches and right ones, which is a horrible mindset for students. You can't grade someone's vision or style, whether you like it or not. It destroys all forms of creativity and imagination. The fact that you do something mainly just for the grade rather than for YOURSELF.

You wake up early in the morning, after spending the night doing homework or a game of League of Legends. Oh boy, nothing like going to school for eight hours to just participate in classes that don't focus on anything worth remembering in the future. Education is non-existent. It is a chore to actually learn something only to get a passing grade and forget it. Tell me, do you actually want to learn the subject, or pass the class with an A? Did you learn this, or just memorize the content for the time being? The only way to actually make someone learn something is to apply it or show students interactively what they're learning rather than some written test.

It only promotes things like cheating, which rewards those who don't get caught without the effort- and creates a mindset that grades label yourself as a person. If you have a relatively bad GPA, you must be stupid, lazy, or something else. Grades only promote labeling others. For those who have ADHD, depression (among other things) and find things that people find simple- they're handicapped big time in a "learning" environment. With the "No Child Left Behind"... People of all types are together in a class. Which seems great, but only leaves those who have trouble focusing on the class and their grades slowly turn to a puddle of piss that constitutes their views on life. "My grades suck... What am I going to do?"

Now people might be saying "But school is easy!" or "I'm pretty smart, so I don't see the problems that you're seeing."... Something along those lines. Please consider, not everyone is you. Everyone also has different circumstances. From poor education itself (never being taught things before), bad school districts, relatively bad teachers, and other variables that come into a person's life.

You guys have to think, that school isn't the most enjoyable place in the world for some people. From bullying, depression, and other personal struggles- having a bad GPA can ruin their lives when they have so much potential. Grades just hide all of that potential, and gives you a number that define you as a student and a person.

I used to not care so much for my grades but as I got older I started to develop heart and devotion and it came naturel for me to want to make good grades and move on up in my classes! School in general, I used to hate it. When I get older things got more complicated but I got through it!

Many mind the grades they receive as others may not mind the grades they receive. It all depends how much they mind school. Personally, I work diligently to earn positive grades. Even though I am addicted to video games, that does not cause me to receive negative grades. Remember, school should be the first thought anybody should feel concerned about, not enjoyable activities and hobbies. Considering I maintain my determination of education, I am always aware of what I am learning. That's why I receive great grades. Always worry about school first. Also, please recall that your educators are intentionally committing the best they may whilst teaching you. If you fail, do not blame it on them, because I am positive they are doing a perfect job. First, think to yourself, Had I felt determination whilst learning or should I really blame the teaching for my success? Good luck!

To me, the importance of good grades are they can get you a scholarship and they show how well you do in school. It shows you are hard working and determined to do well in school.

Good grades are quite important because they mean if you will go forward. Also what people think about you, and if mean colleges and stuff like that by people. Basically, they are very very important.
