I have found Bob's Burgers to be absolutely hilarious. Check it out sometime. The first two seasons are on Netflix. I have never laughed so hard at an animated cartoon. It isn't crude like Family Guy, but it has some adult themes.

I don't know about "new school" and "old school", but when it comes to anime, it looks like you're missing out on a whole world of anime that's actually good. I'd recommend Avatar, since that got me started, but I'd look at english dubbed japanese anime. They're much better than American cartoons for the most part.
