Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. You don't need but one character per server, because you can use all classes on one character. Personally, I love this game. I don't like MMO's, but I'm in love. It plays like a faster paced Dragon Age: Origins (one of my favorite games of all time), it has nice, diverse environments, and it's just fun. I love listening to music and marathoning it.

FFXIV is on PC, PS3, and it's coming to PS4 in spring 2014. They all share servers, so if you're on PC you'll be able to play with PS3 and PS4 players. If you get the PS3 version, you get a free upgrade to the PS4 version.

Quhark : The Diablo series is great, but their not MMOs, dood. I agree with everything else

I would agree with FFXI (I never played it but my friends loved it) and Guild Wars 2. GW2 is somewhat pay to win, though, so keep that in mind

My favorite MMORPG is currently Phantasy Star Online 2. I would not recommend it to anyone outside of Japan, as it is currently a Japan only game and takes forever to set up. It took 16 hours to install on my laptop, but it was worth it.
