If you happen to have watched Family Guy, neither if you're a huge fan or just simply watching the show or whatever. On November 24th, 2013's episode of Family Guy, one of the main characters in the show has been killed off and replaced by another character.
If you're a fan of the show and you have heard about this, but if not, you will now know that Brian (the dog in the family) has been cut off of the show after 12 years and have been replaced by another dog character in future shows.

I think to my opinion, I think might be a fatal move because to my opinion, Brian was a pretty big part of the whole show to be honest, and it has made a lot of people really mad on this change because some fans don't really like any change and this big change, has made a whole lot upset. What is your opinion on this, you think it's a good idea or a really bad idea.

I am a big family guy fan too and when I heard this news I was really disappointed. Before the official change I had heard rumors that there would be a new dog but I would of never of guessed that it would replace Brian. Brian was my second favourite character in the cartoon series, behind Peter Griffin. I guess it could be to do with the person voicing Brian getting bored of his job, I mean 12 years is pretty tough. I guess change was going to come soon enough so I guess we will just have to wait and see if this change is good or not.
I also heard that a character from the Simpsons may get cut off of the cast soon, my friend told me about that but he is more of a Simpsons fan so he will know more about it than me.

omg...

There just really Screwing up family guy, I mean come on, a New dog?! Brian was just fine. He was a funny character, and he also was hillarious with Stewie.? I mean come on, Stewie and brian can't be beaten, If they think there gonna be replacing that, with someone that might be just as good as brian, Then they need to rethink this. Now.

Let me clarify my point a bit as to why they are screwing up family guy:

First Cleveland coming into his own show( which got cancelled because it sucked that bad.)

Now there replacing one of the best characters ever in the series? Wow, That's just gonna come back to haunt them.

[Sigh] This isn't gonna do them any favors at all, and it's gonna tick a lot of Fans off. So I Think this isn't a good idea at all, but I can only hope the new character might be good. (Edit: #2 what I mean't by hoping this new character might be good is. I'm probably gonna see how this turn's out, in other words: I'm giving this new character a chance.)

Out of all the characters why Brian? He was the voice of reason and not mention he did have a few funny moments on the show as well. Honestly now that Brian is gone I don't think I'll be able to watch the show anymore.

Brian was my favorite character on the show.

Unless he's brought back, I think this is the last time I'll watch an episode of Family Guy. It's no big loss, the quality has been going way down for a long time now.

And Vinny is stupid, I'm not a fan of his character.

Without a straight man in Brian, the show will just be inane non-sense. And I'm not a fan of inane non-sense.

legacyme3 : Yeah, who knows, they might regret making that move and I don't think everyone will like the new change, they might have a future episode where Brian is brought back to life once again, and I do agree, Brian is mostly the reason I watch the show all together, without him, the show is missing a really big piece of the puzzle and not another character will fix it.

Well I have not seen a newer episode but I doubt the new dog will do as good of a job in Family Guy as Brian because he was around for a long time. Also when I heard the news and I was just thinking dog years but I was wrong. He was my second favorite character except for Stewie. He was my 2nd favorite character because he was always around Stewie and in most of the action episodes.

They should have killed off Peter instead. Or Stewie. Was this supposed to make us love the show more that they kill the only character with an actual personality in the whole show?!?!

It actually makes sense for the writers to kill off Brian in Family Guy given the choice of them all.

Peter, whether you like it or not, IS the star of the show. Personally, I don't like him that much as over the years he has gotten more annoying than funny, but killing him off would kill the series.

Lois runs that house, so the family would be thrown in disarray if she died. (Plus they played with this idea in a previous episode already, to kill her off now would be repetitive) Plus, it's the only main role the voice actress does, the rest are bit parts. Firing her after so long seems weird.

Meg and Chris, while both not the most interesting characters on the show, make perfect filler types. And just like Lois's voice actress, the voices and Chris and Meg also only have those as their main roles, so unless they wanted to fire them, it was best to leave them in. As a side note, I actually think they have an interesting dynamic that has yet to be explored.

Stewie could have worked as being killed off since his voice actor is the same as Peter and Brian, and it would have made for good drama for a family to lose a baby. However, Stewie is the one who can make all the alternate reality-like episodes happen since he's the only one with the know how. If they killed him off, the writers would be unable to make room for those type of episodes (excluding drug induced euphorias I suppose).

That leaves Brian. In the beginning he was just the guy who told Peter he was stupid and Stewie he was foolish with not too much personality. Later, he became the intellectual of the family (which then gone to his head and became douchey quite often). He soon was partnered with Stewie more than Peter, creating the dynamic duo we all knew. Brian evolved and learned a lot about himself as he was the family's second butt monkey (first being Meg), often criticized about his lifestyle. There probably wasn't much left to develop his character while the rest have more to grow on. With Brian's death, Stewie had to grow.

Personally, I'm not a fan of them replacing Brian, though; it would have been a much more interesting twist to leave the Griffin's petless. It would give Stewie a chance to bond with other members of the family or a person around town. Maybe it could have upped the roles of the rest of the family to make up for the loss.

For instance, if Meg wasn't always the butt monkey, she could make a good straight man (she generally has better common sense, sans her "crazy" episodes). Lois already does this often with Peter, except she's much more nagging. Chris generally is portrayed as dumb, but he has his moments of intelligence and common sense here and there; they could make him grow by becoming a little smarter (or at least, more consistently).

They should not be bringing Brian back to life though; it would make the episode lose all meaning and it was actually quite beautiful. Besides, just because he is dead doesn't mean they will eliminate him completely from cut-aways; they could always have him show up there. The voice actor is still there after all.

Well, based on some rumors I have heard on IGN (and some other places), Brian is coming back to the show. He's set to return on December 15th's Family Guy, but they're not sure if he'll be back permanently or not, like I said, it's mostly a rumor, so it's hard telling.

I think the reason why to my knowledge, it could be that amount of reputation the creators got after killing off Brian, so much it ever brought petitions to bring back Brian the Dog back to the show.

According to Some Articles it appears that Brian might return on next week's episode on the 15th.

Thoughts? I knew this would happen. Kind of called it.

Family Guy isn't a cartoon, it's an animated sitcom, I don't know if it should be in this forum.

Brian came back last week.

Local Mods : Close please.

alexanyways : Technically, I was the one that has brought this thread up and I was thinking it is some sort of cartoon because animated sitcoms can also be know as cartoons as well, so this is the reason why I have posted this thread into this forum.

But, since Brian has been brought back to the show, I'll go ahead and close my own thread though.
