I have been interested in canceled video games for a very long time. I decided to dig up anything I can find about canceled games, and show you guys what I found about them. If you have any suggestions for a game, PM me. The first game we investigate is Sonic X-Treme, a game that was going to be the actual first 3-Dimensional Sonic game, not Sonic Adventure. This game was set to release for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, but was moved to the Sega 32X. It was later moved again to the Sega Saturn. It was going to be released in Christmas of 1996, but was sadly canceled in 1997. The story was going to go like this. Professor Gazebo Boobowski and his daughter, Tiara, are the keepers of the 6 magical rings of order. Gazebo and Tiara fear that Robotnik is after the magical rings of order, so they call Sonic to get them before Robotnik. There were multiple storylines considered for the game, but the above was the final. Every level that we know of is in a tube-like fashion. Sonic would be able to walk on walls, changing the direction of gravity and the camera moving angles. There was a possibility of 4 playable characters. They were Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, Tiara Boobowski, and Miles "Tails" Prower. Each had a unique gameplay style. Knuckles and Tiara would have side-scrolling and top-down views. Sonic had a fish-eye style, while Tails had a first-person flight style. There were 8 planned zones, named Jade Gully Zone, White Frost Zone, Candy Mountain, Red Sands Zone, Galaxy Fortress Zone, Metal Blade, Death Egg Zone, and Blue Ocean. Sonic was set to have a variety of moves, some new. The new moves include a spin slash, throwing rings, a ring powered shield, Sonic Boom, and a power ball. Spin Slash would have been cut out of the final version, due to it being too similar to the spin dash. Other characters were intended to be in the game, such as Fang the Sniper and Metal Sonic. They were going to be boss battles. The reason why Sonic X-Treme was canceled was because of internal problems. There were several different camera angles for each boss fight. Instead of making Sonic X-Treme, they made a Saturn port of Sonic 3D Blast. Could this game have saved Sega? We will never know. This is all I could dig up on the game.
