Now hold it,the title may be a bit misleading, first let me explain something....that might be a bit unimportant, first of all you may know me from Pokemon reviews,i am just going to say that there will most likely not be a review for tomorrow, and secondly...well that's it,time to get to the subject

Now i constantly hear about how the Pokemon anime is terrible, every single time i go to a forum,i hear about it,so i decided that i am going to compare all the animes,so i watched the entire 1st season of all the Pokemon animes, from 1-5,and to be honest guys...what's so bad about it?

We all know ash was better in the original and he did have a bit of emotion, but really he was just a generic character,he is just more generic now,an there is a reason for that.

Does anyone know of a trainer called red...of course you do,all of you do,practically a clone of ash(but in a much more cooler form),he is almost the exact same as ash, except for one little thing,he evolves through the manga,he grows older,he gets more mature, and his Pokemon change, its funny,he's nearly identical to ash,but he is so different from him.

For those who don't know Pokemon was not intended to be like this, basically ash was suppose to be exactly like red,he would grow older,he would mature, and his Pokemon would grow stronger along with him,but once all the big company's like Nintendo and game freak found out the formula that got Pokemon working, they stuck with it and exploited it,they scrapped out the whole idea of ash getting older, and just stuck along with the very simple formula

Ash goes to new region along with Pikachu
Ash finds new friends who have different goals, but overall stick with him to help
Ash finds annoying character and now dubs him as his "Rival",and battles him ocassionally
Ash hears about legendary Pokemon of the current region he is in
Ash Gets attacked by team rocket
Ash is on journey to get all gym badges
Ash gets all gym badges and challenges the elite 4'
Ash either wins or loses
And then gives a speech about it

That is the exact formula they follow, but to there credit, they do leave emotion and character to the manga, they are split into 4 teams,

Show team
Tcg Team
Manga team
Video game team

The video game team puts in the most effort, while the others follow closely behind.

I think i am rambling now but let me get to the point

There is literally nothing,NOTHING different about the Pokemon series we have now, that is different to the original series,we are just blinded by nostalgia, its just a show with corny writing, that sometimes shows its emotion, and let it be known, all the series has emotion in it,its just very rare, also there is a bit just a tiny bit of a character,i will give you some examples

In gen 4 we in my opinion, ashes greatest rival in the animated series

Paul

I praise this character because he had an actual character,he was somewhat of an anti hero/rival that helped the main character out sometimes, but still he had some emotion to him, although i will admit he is very one sided and just goes with the "I AM THE TORTURED VILLAIN/ANTI HERO,LOVE ME VIEWERS LOVE ME"

So to be honest...whats changed?, i mean the whole series and EVERY series follows the exact same formula, and they wont change it because of money, but who cares,we got the games and the manga, and some pretty good fanfiction,in fact i am going to give you an example

pokemon : Redemption

That is a Pokemon fanfiction on,Fanfiction.net,the story revolves around Genn,a boy who was born in a lab,to become a half human half Pokemon hybrid he speak to Pokemon and understand the emotion they are feeling,(much like N),and his mutated Dragonite named cinder who special ability is,he can learn any move ever just by seeing the move being performed, in this story he travels around all the regions to find his 3 brothers who were also created the exact same way he was,and those 3 are the key for finding about his origins,he collects new Pokemon and names then and yada yada yada, you can check that out if you want

The thing i like about that story,is that Genn is a real human with emotion,he has to cope with the fact that his life was just created as a science project,he is not after the gym badges,he is after his family

The thing i don't like about ash his...he is just like a drone,he goes to the next objective to the next objective, and if he finds something in between his journey,he says "alright lets do it and never think about it again",he is single minded, and has no emotion other than being the best, and i know that is basically what his character is meant to be,but be has no other goal unless its handed to him,

Anyway the point i am trying to make here is,not much has changed in the anime, its the same formula being performed over and over again,so really i don't see the point of ranting about it,but hey maybe i am wrong, maybe the original was better,so give me your thoughts...NOW

(Oh yeah and check out that fanfiction, its pretty good)

relinquish022 : I agree with you. Repetition is what sold it. Yes us older Pokemon fans would love for the change like the manga but we know it'll never  happen. I'm not gonna say I enjoy what the anime is still the same but I do enjoy watching once in awhile.

The anime is not the same as it used to be. As I'm only 12, I was not lucky enough to see Indigo league, Orange islands or Jhoto. But I started to watch pokemon from the advanced series and I have to say, I think your right with the formula. From what I've see, Every single episode has this sort of formula :
The group walking around enjoying themselfs
Something happens and they investigate
Group gets attacked by team rocket
Group solves the problem and carry on their adventure.
ALL pokemon episodes since the beginning had this simple formula.

There have been some changes over time. Though none really have managed to overall fix anything about the anime. The Indigo League and Johto I actually thought were pretty good through most of it. Hoenn I think was pretty decent depending on who you were. Sinnoh was where the overall quality went down hugely. Though even then I never really hated it per say. Just found it pretty mediocre. I'd say the Unova anime was when it just stopped being possible to watch. Maybe because that was when it was easy to see they really never were going to fix it and try something new. All they did in that regard was get rid of Brock. Which was in my opinion a dumb idea. Though really the only change I noticed over time was Team Rocket's change from somewhat decent villains to comic relief. Then back to somewhat decent villains again. Finally, Paul never really caught on with me. Doesn't help he's almost unbeatable early on except for Cynthia. He wins almost everything and then makes a dry comment about how weak everyone else is. Kinda reminded me of a harder to enjoy version of Gary from the Indigo League.

The definition of a series is a number of similar things or events in an order. If people want them to stop being repetitive, they aren't going to get their wish.

I agree with the formula that you just said!

I have been trying to keep up with the newest episodes up to the 6th generation's anime and I noticed some differences. The reason why they changed the Pokemon anime emotionally because I think the creators of the Pokemon anime want to inspire kids (now and future kids growing up) to have the courage to never give up and be positive no matter what which gets a bit boring and annoying to me. I think by the fact that Ash never ages because it would probably leave future kids confused on who is Ash and not keep up with the anime episodes. They also trying to inform kids more on the game like explaining a Pokemon's type along with strengths and weaknesses, a Pokemon's ability, etc...

I just find it weird when Ash has to use his pokedex on Pokemon that he ALREADY caught (for example: Corphish and Buizel) and has at Professor Oak's lab or seen a billion times (for example: Koffing from Team Rocket. I mean how many times has he encountered Koffing by Team Rocket  from previous generation for the anime?) Ash's development makes no sense now.

The point of the Pokemon anime series is to get viewers and persuade them to buy their games so I can't really say much... T_T

I completely agree with you. The Pokemon anime was great until it got repetitive. Although, I have to admit, I have been watching the new episodes of the XY series weekly
