I have been thinking recently. Of all the wars recorded in human history, what was the most common universal reason why it was fought (money, land, etc.). That's not the question, but if you can answer it, great. That question just led me to this one.

Anyway, nowadays, there are many reasons to go to war (even if war isn't exactly the best thing to do). There's obviously something called terrorism, which is horrible. If terrorism got to a really bad point, then I would feel war would not be a bad idea. There's already been one, which led to some major leaders in terrorism being killed, but a lot more (innocent) citizens being killed as well.

There is also (personal) freedom, which comes into play in much earlier wars. There were the Punic Wars, Romans versus the Carthaginians, the Persian Wars, Persia versus Macedonia, and many other wars during that time period. Usually, wars back in that period were of purpose to protect your territory and land, trying to protect yourself from enslavement and annihilation.

I would say those two are some major points in reasons to go to war. If there are any others ones you feel are important, feel free to post.

War isn't always the best option, and shouldn't be the first go-go option.

Why my grandpappy went to war was because we did not quite think Stalin would have been the best person to rule over us. After that we have had no wars. Before that it was Sweden who fought the Russian on our soil and we got the bad end of the deal. So who knows. You make war because somebody higher up tells you to do so and then you either live or die.

I think war is dumb. You cannot come up with a beyyer way to settle your problems so you send people out to go kill other people? I don't think there are any good reasons to go to war, except in defense.

Well sometimes wars are needed to bring change . Needed change .. like civil wars . T=If someone or a group wants to stand in the way of development and they refuse to step down then there are going to be wars . And that seems like a reason to start one . Not saying I would . Not saying I wouldn't either . But it seems like a good reason to me

Going to war to stop a genocide would be at least one good reason, stopping a massive slave trade, but both of these things are more important than the "war on terror", but people hardly notice it.

i a personally against war. but there are times when it is necessary to survive. there are people out there who want nothing more then to take everything you have, regardless of its value, simply to take it. going to war because you dont agree with what someone is doing to people who have nothing to do with you, is wrong, unless they as for your aid. you have no right to force your ideals upon other people, and if they want to deal with it themselves, or cannot do so enough to as for help, then they get whats coming to them. the weak die, its the law of nature.

as for "terrorism" that is nothing more than a mask with no true face beneath, thrown at anyone who our governments deem to be a threat in some way. these governments are of course manipulated into doing so by certain people who rule the world from Isreal, because a government isnt an entity. its just a group of people who you listen to.  they tell you there are terrorists in afganistan, and youre all gung ho for them to go over and slaughter a million people just trying to live their lives. they tell you the syrians are terrorists, and youre fine with us helping the jews next door continue to bomb peoples houses like weve been doing for over a decade. war is acceptable only to bring down countries like ours. we are ruled by evil people, who for some reason being very few, control everything you do and say, through debt.

I don't think War should always be one of the first options in a...disagreement.

But if it is something like freeing people from a Dictator, or protecting people's rights, then it should be considered.
