Who, in your opinion, is Ash Ketchum from the Pokemon franchise's best rival? My personal favorites are Gary and Paul ! It has to be Gary. He has been a rival from the very beginning so a sense of good old times comes into this. He was around back when Pokemon was at its best (back when it was good in my opinion) so that makes me happy so when I see a character like that it makes e think back a few years to when I loved pokemon. I think he has cool hair too!

Well I would have to say Paul . That guy was grossly overpowered . We was tough and did not keep weak Pokemon . Even though Ash beat him at the League I still think he was stronger than Ash . But the main Protagonist rarely loses . But Ash did get beat by Tobias in that final . Poor Ash . Tobias had a Darkrai and Latios . Ash was doomed

His other rivals are fine as well but Gary Oak will always be number 1. Plus he had cheerleaders.

I would like to say Gary Oak. Paul isn't that much of a rival in my opinion, just some guy who mistreats his Pokemon and just looks forward too beating Ash. 

Gary is probably more successful than Paul too...in FR/LG, he's the Pokemon Champ. But that doesn't really regard Ash, does it. 

I'd really like to see a really strong rival in a new series, if there will be one. I do not watch the anime anymore, I dislike it, but if I hear that there is a new rival that is very overpowering and beats Ash every time, I'll be hooked.

Gary was a super jerk yet Gary seems to be the only rival Ash actually had. Gary also had some strong Pokemon as well which is another reason why he seems like a good rival for ash. so I'm going to vote for Gary this time.

I am not one of those 'original FTW' kind of people, however we can all safely say Gary Oak. He's like the only one that really had a 'rivalry feeling' towards Ash. + He's the only one with a bunch of different pokemon.
