Ah, how many of you guys remember that amazing platformer for the Nintendo 64 called conker's bad fur day? Remember how much mature content the game had? As in swearing, blood, breasts, and all other kinds of adult stuff? Yeah, sure all of you guys on the vizzed board have played this game at least once in your life (Haha the game was Rated M thus only adults could play it.) But conker did not start off this way guys! It seems that before all the fur day treatment he got with the Nintendo 64 back in 2001, Conker was actually supposed to be a kid friendly G-rated game for kids AND adults to enjoy! This game would be called "Twelve tails of conker" or something like that, But It was eventually scrapped and we got a conker adventure for the game boy color, How could've this game went? Let's find out! This Is Conker's pocket tales for the Game boy color!

Story-7/10
Normally I have alot to say about the story of a video game, but quite frankly, I really don't have much to say about this game in hand! But I'll tray to say as much as I can, that way my review can be over +1500 words and my friends here will say good things about me! Alrighty, here it goes! One day conker and berri (Who look way different then they do in the next game) are at conker's place celebrating his birthday party (Yeah, because conker is going to grow way older and maturer in the next few adventures) but before the two suirrels even get to cut the cake and eat it, an evil villain comes to conker's house unannounced and kidnaps conker's girlfriend berri! It seems to be that this evil doer is none other then the despicable aptly-named evil acorn! (Haha, for lack of a better name.) He is known for acting many terible and bad deeds throughout conker's world, and this probably may be without a shadow of a doubt one of his worst deeds yet, so you have to work hard on this one! So now that you guys on the vizzed board know what the emphasis on behind this whole entire game Is, I have one question to ask you guys, will Conker save the day and get back his girlfriend, his presents, and his birthday? Let's find out shall we folks?

Gameplay-7/10
Conker's pocket tales is an isometric cartoony adventure game where you control conker through big worlds, collecting presents and defeating tons of baddies along the way. Controls work pretty good, A is jump, B lets you attack, and the Select button lets you dig through holes, Hold on let me rephrase that, The SELECT button lets you dig through holes, Oh my god! Really rare? That is like in batman forever for the SNES where you must press the select button to grapple! But anyways, let's continue on with the game, I don't want to get TOO off-topic here! The game starts you off at conker's house where you must solve some puzzles and learn the basics of the game, and then you are off! A majority of the game focuses on item and collecting and exploring, And lots of it! Much like Zelda: Orcale of seasons, a game that is also isometric and has adventure elements to it! Some of the puzzles are really plain, like ground pounding certain buttons in a certain order to unlock a closed door, or moving blocks of the same color into the empty spaces near the door, whether what It is, It is fun to me. Tons of bad guys stand in conker's way, such as birds, evil acorns, and tons of others. Now was much as I was praising the game throughly, there are still some problems with the game! The first problem is some of the quests, a majority of them are really aggrivating and just take forever to complete, like finding random objects for this walking acorn, and just completing the mission itself feels so rewarding beyond relief. When the going gets tough, the squirrel gets slinging and digging! Conker can take out his trust slingshot and fire fierce nuts at his foes! He Can also dig through into and out of these holes to warp to another area to find hidden items and presents! When conker is finally done exploring a world and has found all of it's secrets and goodies, he will have to fight a really powerful boss, these guys are quite really fearsome and rough, so be extra careful, most of them have their own strategies, like avoiding enemy fire until they are done shooting at you, or pressing all the available buttons near the battlefield to break them out from their little "Forcefield" and get a chance to attack them. Lastly, present collecting, you will need these neccesites to win the game, and their contents are varied, so good luck!

Graphics-7/10
At the time that this game was released, there weren't many games to choose from for me to play on the game boy color, and when I first played this game, I was actually suprised by this game! The game does play from an isometric view much like some other games I haved played in the past, and believe it or not, Rare did a good job with this game! As you progress through the game, you'll explore through big colorful areas that are big, fun, vast, and just a blast to explore! You'll explore through conker's town, a big and dusty gluch, a big river, and tons of other places! Now to the actual character models, they look pretty average to be honest, Conker looks nice, the enemies look typical, and well, Yeah! Now there are SOME problems I have the graphics, and here they are! In the first or so level of the game, There were these rotten and old trees with the branches sticking out really really low, and you think you could pass under them right? WRONG! These actually act as invisible walls believe It or not, and It baffled me on my first playthrough of the game, But now that I have completely mastered the game, I know all of the level's tricks and secrets! The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It displays how much acorns you have, and well, That is pretty much it, Not else Is really displayed here. Lastly, the game was most notably released as a dual-format cartridge, Which means you can play the game in black and white on the original Game Boy, Or you can play the game the way It was meant to be played, on the colorful Game Boy Color.

Sound-6/10
When you first boot up the game, You are greeted to some really happy sounding and really bright and cheery music that most notably overshadows the dark and blunt Conker's bad fur day, Not that it is a bad thing or anything, But the game feels that It was meant to be a game for little kids and people who probably did not grow up with the orange squirrel. But as we were saying, Each level in the game has It's own little bright happy and cheery theme to It that actually helps you concentrate on the level and everything else about It, The music in the first level Is actually a remix of the first level theme from the tech demo video of Twelve tails of conker! Just listen to It. Other levels like the gulch or the river also have fairly cartoony and typical sounding music that sounds like your conker-fare. Now for the sound effects, they are some of the most plain that you can get in a Game boy color game for the time, but at least there are sound effects! You get some plain sounding beeps for when you fire your acorns, Quiet little 8-bit explosion like sounds for when you dig in a hole, and well, It is still Okay. Now for the one problem I have with the sound, As addressed by one other reviewer, Everytime you resume play after reading a message in the game or such, The music will actually restart and restart and restart! I really didn't know what to expect when this first happened, But I didn't question It and just kept on playing.

Addictiveness-7/10
The game has actually offered a fair amount of fun for me throughout the quest, and here is what I mean. The first emphasis of fun that I found throughout the game is the item collecting and exploring, The game feels like a traditional rare game for the N64 like banjo kazooie, You know, Big worlds, tons of items to collect, and lots of puzzles to solve throughout the game world! Second, It is the overall presentation of the game, When you are first playing the game, You notice how bright and cartoony It looks, in contrast to the next game, and that made the game even more fun then It already has been for me! Rare, I just wanted to tell you thank you for making all of these cool funny and really awesome platformer games, I have always had fun with these games and I don't know anyone who despises any of them! Again, thank you!

Depth-5/10
The lasting appeal of the game was believe It or not one of the very very low points of the game for me, I actually beat this game a couple of times, And Despite getting that rewarding feeling of awesomeness after your long and tedious adventure, There has to be some other reason to come back for more! And well, Here Is where you are right my friend! Okay, what am I even doing or saying? Let's start this section. The game offers over six distinct worlds each with over 20 presents and enduring challenges to play through in the said world, So the game will most likely take you about 1-2 hours to beat at least, and with the added save game file feature, It makes everything even more fun then It is! Second and lastly, The presents, the game offers over 120 presents to collect in all, And collecting all of them is key to earning 100% and as I have addressed before, It feels so rewarding just getting all the presents in a world! You just don't get the feeling in any other adventure game like this! THIS is the game that makes you feel proud for all your patience and endurance, And that is what makes It fun and enjoyable.

Difficulty-8/10
Oh god, if there is one point of the adventure itself that maybe the most reasonably rated sections then before, It would have to be the difficulty level! Oh my god, I remembered having so much trouble with this game as a kid! And I still have some trouble today, I haven't offically "Mastered" the game by any means, But I am still okay at It. Some puzzles and such throughout the game are really really tough, and will take some time and thinking before completely mastering them, It was pretty fun matching up all of the blocks earlier in the game, But by the time i got to around the fourth or so level, It just got tiring and worn out you know. Same goes for the minigames, Some of them have you shooting at plain looking archery targets and trying to get a high score before the time runs out, and well, At least I have this mini-game mastered! Somewhat...But still...That Is for now.

Overall-7.6/10
So in general, what did I think of this starter adventure for the cute and orange squirrel? Well personally, I think that this game was just well, I dunno, MARVOLOUS as conker the squirrel himself would say, Hey conker, what do you think of this first game of your's, you think It was great? You think rare treated you right with this game? Conker says yup! But anyways, I gave this game a 7.6 because It is fun, puzzling, and It offers alot to do throughout the entire ride through! And I know you guys will agree with me here, So anyways, This has been RedHotToddy's 134th review on the vizzed board, and well, I will see you guys later or so In my 134th review on the site! I have been having so much fun with reviewing games here, and the appeal will just never die out for me! But anyways, bye guys! I hope you guys liked this one Like you do with all my other ones!
