I just wanted to start this thread even though I'm no forum mod. Share some interesting space facts! I guess I can share a few.

Jupiter has 63 moons

Earth's tilted axis is tilted at a 23.5 degree angle.

I have many more facts, but I'll just let you share some facts! I'd love to learn more!

I have a few.

- Saturn has a very low density, so it would float in water.

- If two or more pieces of metal touch in space, they become welded together.

- NASA found fossils of tiny creatures on Mars

- Even though Mercury is the closest to the Sun, Venus is actually the hottest planet. (Due to the gases and stuff in the atmosphere)

- Earth is the only planet that isn't directly named after a Roman god or goddess.

- PLUTO IS A PLANET!!! SHUT UP SCIENTISTS!!!

-Venus's day is longer than its year!
-A month is the amount of time it takes for the moon to finish an orbit around Earth.
-The Moon in the sky only shows the "light side". Never will you ever see the "dark side" of the Moon in the sky.
-Oddly, the side of the moon we see in the sky, called the "light side", is actually darker than the "dark side". The "light side" has darkened spots that are pretty obvious but the "dark side" doesn't.

tgags123 : OBJECTION! Scientists changed guidelines about dwarf planets and regular ones, therefore it is a dwarf. Anyways, I've got some.

- Footprints on the moon will always stay, as there is no wind.

- Earth has the greatest density of all planets.

- The moon is moving around 4 cm away from us every year. That means, in a few billion years, it will take over 40 days instead of the usual 28.

- Only 12 people have walked on our Moon. They were all American men.

- The moon has moonquakes. I think it's due to the gravitational pull, but I forget.

- Mars and Earth have about the same land mass.

The phases of the Moon (In order) are New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, Waning Crescent.

The Moon has no sound due to no air on the moon

The oldest rock found on the moon is the Genesis Rock

Black holes have never been studied the way to get exact facts. We are still far from that. We will be doing that in a long time.

That is not true.
Saturn is a gas planet but its coreis solid, iron and rock.
If you managed to find water deep enough (almost physically impossible) the solid core would sink and the surrounding gas would disapate.

Unproven.
From what i remember, they used to coat thingsin a thinsheet of gold to allow better images under microscope. They saw somethings they thought to be fossils, however later, when technology advanced and they looked at rocks withoutgold coating, they (rock samples) all looked completely different. Currently scientists thing its the gold that formed these small ridges that look like fossils.

Earth and mars have almost the same land surface area, but mars has a far smaller mass. And before mars lost its water it would have had significantly less land area than earth.

In fact, im pretty sure many german scientists, who people wanted charged with war crimes, got high ranking jobs in the american space program.

Space is hypothised to not be empty. It is full of various matter, largely dark matter and dark energy.
Dark matter gives out gravity, and dark energy apparently speeds up the expansion of the universe.
Thats the thing i always find most interesting.

Another is that during the formation of the earth there was serious amounts of gold, but over the thousandsof years where the earth was cooling, the heaviest elements, such as iron and gold settled intothe centre of the planet. There isfar more gold in the centre of the earth than in the outer crust (the area we mine it from). It is unrecoverable.
Also, all the gold that we have mined, and that we can mine, would fit into the base of the statue of liberty.

Facts, eh?
1) Time is distorted around heavy objects due to their gravitational pull, meaning you age faster on earth than in outer space.
2) There's likely trillions of dollars worth of metals within single asteroids of the asteroid belt.
3) We may have already mapped out all observable space and just don't know it -- message me if you are interested in the explanation

I bet you guys didn't know this, that the earth is the only known planet with liquid water and sustains life. Also in a few billion years or something (I forgot, but I do know this will happen) summer is going to be in December. The sun will eventually destroy the Earth and the whole solar system. Space has stars. According to myth busters the moon landings are real. A dog was in space before a monkey. In space without a pressurized suit you would explode do to space being empty. Space isn't shaped like a bar. (I know all this from a 6th grade education) The solar system is in a Elipitcal orbit (Ovalish) And is Heliocentric (Sun is the center)

- Did you know that winds on Saturn can exceed 800mph? The rough equivalent of 11 hurricanes! Winds on Neptune reach 2,000 mph however.

- Lightning on Jupiter is 10x stronger than on Earth

- Saturn is less dense than water, and if all the planets were to be put over water, only Saturn would float.

- Venus can actually reach hotter temperatures than mercury because of the green house effect.

- Jupiter has 63 moons and it can fit all of the other planets inside of it.
