Ah, if you guys already know, I am also a huge fan of ubisoft's limbless hero rayman as well! Back when rayman's first game was released, Gamers were mesmerized by an amazing 2D platformer that was really fun and challenging at the same time! Heck, Even I had the most trouble with the game itself, But I ended up completing the game In the end, So a sequel just had to be made you know! And that Is what we got, In around 1999, Ubisoft all worked together to bring one of the biggest and extraordinary 3D platformers since Super mario 64! Well you guys are asking for It, What is this stellar game, And why Is It In my reviewing list! You will see later guys! This is rayman 2 revolution for the PlayStation 2!
Story-8/10
This adventure takes place on a forbidden island called the glade of dreams. These evil doers known as the robo pirates, led by the ruler razorbeard are planning to destroy the world's core, Doing so will lessen the power of the resistance and will forever vanquish our fellow hero rayman's powers, Thus holding him captive. Which then brings us to our hero rayman, who is currently in a scuffle with the pirates, which is why he is In jail! Along with him in the prison Is a calm fellow by the name of globox, a blue creature who has been aiding rayman in all of his adventures ever since, he hands rayman a lum which lets rayman escape from the ship. Rayman then returns home and learns that in order to defeat the space pirates, He must recover four of these magical masks to restore order to his world! So as of right now, The whole entire universe is depending on our fellow limbless hero to save the world! Will he succeed, or will he fall face flat In the dirt! Let's find out!
Gameplay-8/10
Unlike rayman's first adventure, which was a side-scroller game, Rayman 2 revolution is a full 3D platformer game where you the role of rayman as you guide our hero through big levels, collecting lums, and defeating enemies. The controls are easy to get the hang of, The left analog stick moves, X lets you jump, O and Square let you attack, and the Triangle button lets you display all of your current stats. The game's levels are connected by a hub world, Here you can run around and select all the new levels or even replay some old ones! Now to the levels, and boy are they fun! Rayman will be fighting his way through lush forests, big white and clear skies, space pirate ships, you name It! There are also different kinds of levels, Some levels have you skiing through a swamp, Some have you piloting a rocket through the sky, and most of the levels are just the basic platforming. Rayman has tons of powers at his disposal, Such as grapple lums which let him swing through grapple hooks, Golden fists which boost his attack power, etc. Plenty of items surround our hero's way, Such as golden lums, cages, etc. Collecting all of this in a level will unlock some cool stuff like bonus games! Now to the bosses, they are pretty fun! Some have you running away from a monster like creature, fighting a yellow robot in a cave, and many more! The game cleary has that rayman charm, and that is good! Anyways, that Is pretty much It for the gameplay!
Graphics-9/10
This game was released sometime In about 2001, and even for those standards, I have always seen this game as one of the PlayStation 2's best! I mean just look at the game from a distance, You already know It Is rayman! Each level after the last is big, vast, fun, and just an overall blast to explore throughout! You will guide rayman through big forests with really nice looking grass and trees, You'll take him through the big and scary caves of the ancients, complete with spiders pihranas and chicken ghosts, heck, You'll even guide him through a big lava underground cave! As I have addressed before, Each level is just brimming with stuff to do and collect! Such as lums, enemies, cages, platforms, well, yeah!? You get the point! Now to the actual character models, The characters from the last game were pretty good, but there weren't really that many of them, We just had Rayman, the teensie guys, Mr dark, And Mr dark's henchman, Here we have Rayman, globox, Ly, Rayman's enemy razorbeard, The space pirate army, and tons of other to add to the list! Rayman Is still a limbless dude with tons of talents, Globox Is your typical cowardly yet lovable sidekick, Razorbeard Is your despicable villain who wants to do anything to eliminate rayman, and well yeah! The characters still look pretty good none the less! Lastly, The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It displays how much health you have left until you are dead, How many lums you have collected in the level, and how many cages you have also collected.
Sound-8/10
The excact second that I booted this game into my console, I had no idea what to expect, I mean, sure the eerie music at the menu really didn't do It for me a bit, But let's just continue shall we! The sound in this game has really stepped up from the first game! The first game had a little cutsie woodsy and happy-go-lucky feel to It, But this game just feels downright serious and to the point, But none the less! The game's soundtrack Is still good! Each level in the game has some really catchy bright and just awesome sounding music that helps you remember that This is a rayman game, From the big lush forest of the fairy glade to the Pirate mines, They all sound so catchy and just a blast to hear, While though my CD glitched up on me once and had absolutely no music playing at all until I got a new one! Now to the sound effects, They are your typical stuff! You have some swooshs, booms, pows, woo-hoos, boings, and well, It is perfectly rayman quality! Even though I didn't exactly explain which one Is which, Booms are for when you destroy an enemy, Boings are for when you jump on platforms and such, and swooshs are for when you swing yourself on a grapple hook, They are all still really good and cartoony sound effects! Lastly, the voice acting, This section might be a little tricky especially considering that the characters don't talk much In this game, But still, Rayman has that caresmetic heroic voice that helps him remember that he is a hero, Globox has that little wimpy voice as in He is scared yet still trying, and Razorbeard has that dramatic antagonistic voice to him that makes him one really awesome super villain!
Addictiveness-7/10
This game has always proved to me as the absolute game changer of rayman games, and Here is why I say so! Well first of all, It Is just the feel of the game itself! The game feels very big, very fun, and just very likely to catch your attention the whole entire ride through! I mean, just look at my current save file of this game! 100% And second, It is just?controlling rayman himself! As we all know, Rayman is a very very agile character himself, He can jump from platform to platform, He can hang on webs and monkey bars, He can swing through various things without a single flinch, and so on!? Lastly, The game has just felt to me as the real game changer of 3D platformers throughout, I mean sure we had games like Super Mario 64 or Tomb raider at the time to accompany us, But this game just feels the sweetest of the three! Don't worry guys, Those two games I mentioned now are still really really awesome games! Don't get me wrong and think that I hate those games, Because deep down inside, I love those games with all of my heart, and I will never let them go from my childhood! Just saying!
Depth-9/10
This game Is really big and Is probably one of the bigger rayman games I have played besides Rayman 3 (Which I shall review oh so soon.) But anyways, Now to the depth factor of the game! This game Is about 5-11 levels long, So you have a big 3-6 hour quest waiting for you. Second, It Is the amount of lums and cages to collect throughout the entire course of the game! There are overall over 1000 lums and About 50-70 cages to collect and find throughout the entire game, and just finding all of them feels so rewarding after all of your hard work and effort! Lastly, There are some bonus games and extra powers to purchase, Such as globox disk, Some sort of soccer like game with baby globoxes, and the powers will help you alot and I say ALOT throughout your quest, So make sure to find as many lums as you can throughout the course of the game in order to gain access to the cooler and uniqer powers like the gold fists and such, Those ones are fun!
Difficulty-6/10
The game has never really given me trouble throughout the course of the game, But some levels have still given me trouble at some parts! And here they are, One of the first levels that make me give the game this much on the difficulty scale would have to be the water skiing levels in the swamp, It is just going way too fast and one mistake automatically sends you to your last previous checkpoint, Another level that has given me trouble Is the pirate caves level, Here you are controlling a big pirate ship and you must find three of these certain things (Sorry, I forgot what you had to find here.) And the level Is really linear, and so you will be bumping around alot until you die! Now don't get me wrong here, The difficulty level for this game Is pretty fair here and there, and so I don't think the game Is a nightmare to play, but well, yeah, You get the point! The game Is pretty hard for It's own good, But if you are a pro at platformer games, then this one should go pretty easy for you!
Overall-8.5/10
So in general, What do I think of this 3D platforming marvel you ask? Well guys, I am glad you would ask, I think this game Is amazing! From the amazing story to the awesome characters to the holy amount of stuff to do, This game Is a total must have for rayman fans and I hope you will agree with me! I gave this game an 8.5 because It is fun, different, challenging, big, long, and It just really really stays true to Rayman's true roots you know! So anyways guys, This has been RedHotToddy's 132th game review on vizzed board, and well, I hope to see you guys later In my 133th review! I am glad that you guys on the vizzed board love reading my reviews, Because It takes so much time and effort to make these, and just completing one feels so rewarding after all that I did! So anyways, As I was saying, Oh yeah, Bye guys!
