DANGERS OF REALITY
CHAPTER TWO

Here is the second chapter of the Lance Wood trilogy. I hope you guys like this chapter more than the first chapter and I hope you can leave some feedback on how you think the story is shaping so far. That feedback will give me an idea as to whether or not I should continue.

CRASH!!

The second motorcycle went skidding past us and slammed into an oncoming truck on the other side of the highway.

“Okay Lance,” Raun had screamed from atop the car. “Now it’s a fair fight.”

Not for long, I thought as I looked further down the road. The cars ahead were beginning to slow down as a police barricade had been set up about half a mile away. This will not end well.

Another gunshot was heard, but this time it came from the lone cyclist, who was just a few feet behind us. The bullet sailed just over the seat to my left and had pierced the windshield, smashing it to pieces.

The car narrowly avoided missing a pickup truck that had began to slow down, and had to swerve into another lane as we passed. Now we were in trouble, the barricade had to be less than a thousand feet away, and there was now no more room to drive, there were too many cars.

“Raun!!” I screamed “Do something! We can’t go any farther!”

“Be quiet Lance, I am doing the best I can!!”

And then it was too late, the car could no longer avoid the other cars and we were forced to plow through them. I covered my face and I buried my head in the seat, waiting for the impact.

The impact that never came. The sirens grew loader, became unbearable at one point and then just like that, the sound began to die down. What happened? Did we hit the cars? I think I am supposed to be dead here.

I slowly began to raise my head; I looked out the window and saw nothing in front of us. There was not a single car in front of us for the miles that I could see. Um, I am pretty sure that there was just a pile of cars here.

Then I decided to look behind us, and I was shocked. The police barricade was about two hundred feet behind us. The officers who were set up near their cars looked horrified as they began to pull out their weapons.

The next few seconds freaked me out more than any of the things that I have faced these past few days. As the police barricade was fading away, the view had begun to flicker, and the motorcycle simply came out of nowhere and continued to follow us.

It wasn’t just the image that disturbed me; it was also the fact that there was now another six or seven bikes following us, as well as a dozen wolves.

Yeah that’s right, wolves. I still have no clue as to what’s going on, and the truth is, I don’t think I want to know. Just a few days ago I was living a regular life
.
Now, because of this guy, I am going to end up dying sometime today. Because of him, my family is dead, and because of him, I might be arrested. (Though I am more worried about dying than of being arrested.)

After my last encounter with Raun at the park on Saturday, I went home and I had spent all of Sunday lying in my bed. I am terrified, what should I do? Who should I tell of what just happened? Should I even tell anybody? I have no idea what to do.

Monday morning I woke up an hour early in order to get ready for the day. Not only did I have to worry about Raun, but today was another day in school. The Education department had to displace all two thousand students from my school to random schools across the city until we could be put into new permanent schools.

Victor had to go to a school that was about three miles away from home, so he only had to take one bus to get there. I on the other hand was placed in a school in Manhattan, so I had to take the bus and then I had to take the train.

Victor was still sleeping when I woke up, but I did not feel like bothering him, even though I may never end up seeing him again. My parents were also asleep, so I decided to leave them alone. I wrote them a little note saying that I was heading off to school and that I love them, and then I left.

It was a tough day at the school, and to make things even worse, Doug Blandik was in my history class. Doug and his best friend Daniel Carson were two of the biggest bullies in my school. They were both in the same year as me, Sophomore, and the two of them were both pure evil.

They would always pick on me, beat me up, and steal stuff from me. They would have done a lot more if it had not been for Victor always looking out for me. I don’t know why, but the two of them were scared of Victor.

“H-hi, Lance.” He said to me, looking a bit shaken. I did not blame him after what happened on Friday.

Maybe I should tell you a bit more about what happened on Friday, which happened to be both my birthday, and the day the school burned.

Friday afternoon, we were having a party in my English class, and it was a lot of fun. Victor’s teacher even allowed Victor to miss class to come to the party.

Both Doug and Daniel came running into the room and messing everything up. They took the food and started throwing all of it away, and they started picking on everybody.

This was their third day back from their recent suspension and they were not even trying to do better. Multiple times, the school had tried to expel them multiple times but they could not because no other school would agree to take them.

Victor looked as if he wanted to kill both of them. Once they were done in our room, they ran out and headed down the hall, but Victor ran out of the room after them.

I had really wanted to tell Victor that it was no big deal because I really did not want him to get in trouble so I went after him. I found them in the southern division of the fourth floor near the AP Chemistry rooms.

There was a lot of yelling, Victor was screaming at them while also dodging screams himself. Now I realized how much of a bad idea it was to go after him. If I get involved in this, everybody will be screaming at me, Victor included.

I watched the argument which lasted for just a couple of seconds before they were separated by the dean of the floor. The two bullies were taken down to the Principal’s office, while Victor was allowed to go back to class.

I hid in one of the doorways until Victor had passed me, (I could not let him see me.) I stayed there for thirty or so seconds and then I started to walk down the hallway back towards the staircase. That was when I smelled the smoke.

The fire alarms went off and everybody began to run out of the classrooms. An announcement was made over the loudspeaker saying that everybody must leave the building. I had later learned that the cafeteria had caught on fire.

By the time I made it to the side entrance with a hoard of other students, the hall was full of smoke and small flames could be seen creeping up the walls. Okay, I could not go that way. I turned around and had to go for the front entrance which would be even more dangerous because that is closer to the cafeteria.

Near the cafeteria, there were a few men trying to douse the flames, armed with extinguishers. It was safe to exit here, so I ran out and met with Victor, who looked terrified.

We were all escorted down the street to the park located five blocks south of the school and we had to stay there because the principle said that we could not leave the grounds alone. So Victor and I had to wait for our parents to come and get us.

Our ride came half an hour later, and during those thirty minutes, we had learned what had that the cause of the fire could not be determined and that there was one student who did not survive the fire. That one student had been Daniel
.
Because of that, Doug looked like he had been killed inside. He lost his best friend and nearly died himself. He had hurt me at least thirty times during the first two years of high school, but I still felt really sorry for him.

Raun had told me to wait for him a couple of blocks away from my house after school, but I really wanted to see what was going on so I began walking down my street towards the house at about a quarter to five.

Like many of the ideas I have had over these past few days, this one was a bad one, and it gave me a memory that I would never forget, one that I wish I could.
I was now a block away from the house, I would have gone a bit closer to see if anybody was home, but I stopped when I saw the thick fog that was forming just a few feet above the roof.

Then, like what happened on Saturday, small bolts of electricity began to flow around the house and the wind started to pickup. I shielded my eyes when a small flash temporarily blinded me, and when I opened my eyes, the house was on fire.

What did he do? I didn’t think he meant this when he said that he would take care of my family. I didn’t have too much time to think about that because I immediately began hearing somebody screaming.

“Lance! I told you where to wait!” It was Raun. “Follow me!! NO! Lance! RUN!!”
He was staring at something behind me; I turned around to see four men in black suits standing about ten feet behind me, two on each side of the street. The moment I saw them, they started to walk towards me.

I took a few quick steps back and then I heard the roar of an engine. I looked around and saw a car coming towards me. The car was being driven by Raun. The rear driver side door was open, and the moment the car was just a few feet away, I jumped in.

The moment my body hit the leather seats, the car sped off, but not before one of the men had made contact with the back window, smashing it and sending glass everywhere. The man tried to reach in and pull me out, but Raun had managed to pull the car around the corner and we took off down the Boulevard.

“What did you just do back there!!” I screamed at Raun.

“I did what I was supposed to do, Lance! I told you to wait a safe distance from here because they were going to look for you here!”

“Who are those people and what do they want from me? And my house! My family! Do you know what you just did? You just killed my family!”

I tried to hit Raun, but just inches from the back of his head, my hand froze. It was no use, I could not hurt this guy, but he could hurt me as much as he wants.

“I do not want to hurt you Lance, I am here to protect you. Those were the Aztels that I told you about”

“Okay, and what about my parents and my brother?”

“Lance, it would cause too much of a panic if you went missing, I told you I would do something and that is exactly what I did.”
