First of all, I'm not asking about silly little obsessions. Glancing at your watch every hour, ticking off your day calendar every day, or chewing your nails ..... are not things which are unnaturally obsessed over.  Those are often little OCD tendencies and not all that uncommon.  Instead, I'm looking for things which truly impede on your ability to do things normally in your day-to-day schedule.

For example, as I was driving home today, I was thinking about how I always seem to hit the same red lights and the same green lights.  I started to wonder how many lights are on a timer.  Does THIS light always turn green at 4:50pm?  And if so, could I possibly time my departure from work, so that I hit the LEAST number of red lights possible?

It got me to wondering if there's anyone that obsesses over things like that.  I started imagining someone taking days to sit and observe the times the lights changes, then working out the exact moment they had to leave the house, to hit the lights at the right time.

I personally don't think there is anything I obsess over unnaturally.  The best personal example I can give is how many times I check an area I'm leaving. See, when I was younger, I left my graphing calculator on the top of a piano at school.  I got in so much trouble, that I became terrified of ever doing it again.  It developed into a habit of checking an area for a ridiculous amount of time before I leave it.  I mean, if I want to clear out the trunk of my car, I will stare at the completely empty trunk for like 5 minutes, searching it with my eyes even though I know I bought nothing very small.  I still feel compelled to look and stare and search despite the obvious emptiness.  I've been late to some places from time to time, because I couldn't physically break myself away from that search.

For myself, I have made it a habitual act to always double check if I turned the T.V. off at night. Yes, that may sound weird, but it's really dark, and the T.V. is an old model, so I have no idea if I really have turned off the T.V. unless I put my ear to the screen and listen for any static. Sometimes, I left the T.V. on the whole night by accident...my mom got mad, but when I told her about it, she understood because she knows the T.V. can be a little annoying at some times.
I guess that's a habit more than an obsession really, but I don't think I have any unnatural obsessions (none that I can think of at this moment at least )

I figured out something that I naturally obsess over that isn't trivial.

Last night I was putting gas in the car and when it was full I began to remove the nozzle. Before I pulled it out completely, I tapped it several times against the inside of the fill hole. Again, my mind wandered to a question that has plagued me for some years now. What if everyone in the world spilled just one drop of gas on the ground when they removed the nozzle? How many barrels of gas would that be that is wasted?

It actually bothers me to lose a drop of fuel on the ground. Sometimes when it happens, I become noticeably frustrated and it can even send me over an unhappiness cliff. Weird.

I obsess over quite a few things, some more than others. I can and will double check everything that can be turned on and off and or moved before leaving a room for an extended period of time. I just have to know whether or not that light is off, or my alarm is on, time is set correctly, tables haven't shifted, etc. I've had times when I noticed something is not right, and I go to hop in bed, and I suddenly have that wave of anxiety about that one little thing. I hate it ever so much...

I go crazy if something is placed in a weird way or if I draw something and it doesn't look right.

I have to be super organized. All the time. From the moment I wake up I attempt to plan my day as soon as possible, I plan on how I am going to spend my money, how I'm going to get it, and managing school work. It takes a lot of time out of my day, but it's a good thing in the long run.

Crazy unusual obsession...

Wasabi... little green sauce served in Asian restaurants... really burns the nose
Why? Usually have a stuffy nose during the winter so every day at lunch I go to a restaurant or store just to get wasabi... helps clear my sinuses but with a nasty taste... since winter is coming soon might as well start :p

Singelli : Well
I don’t know if this would qualify as an unnatural obsession, but I do obsess
over my writing as well as other things. Even if people complement me on my
work or, if a piece that I have written generates a lot of good attention; for
me there will always be things that stick out that I will think could have been
done a little better. This is why it is not uncommon for me to spend days or
even weeks at a time working on and revising one piece over and over before I
release it. I don’t know if I would call it unnatural, but I have come to think
of it as something that I just take a lot of pride in doing what I do.

I obsess over being organized and neat with everything I do, I have to have all of my binders organised and find stuff easily. I cannot stand having sloppy work or a messy room or binder for school. I take it seriously and it helps me succeed in school because I know precisely where all of my information is stored and I can access it easily. I like to have stuff in order and neatly as well.

I am also an artist which kind of makes me a perfectionist as well, for anything, if it is a doodle or a sketch or something for art class, I will keep adding or changing it until I think it looks perfect. I do not settle for mediocrity and I don't really think any artists should, I try to make my drawings as accurate and as perfect as possible. So that is another thing that I obsess about, my artwork when I draw.

This is a good question by the way, and those are some of the things that I obsess over and will try to perfect. I am a neat and organized person by nature, and I am also a perfectionist as well. So these are just some of the things I tend to do a lot.

I have a habit of always having 2 keep my hands clean. When i use the bathroom i always turn the knob off with either a paper towel, toilet paper or i will lean over the sink and use the bottom of my shirt. When i go inside places i never open the door with my hands. I always use the bottom of my shirt. Before i eat i wash my hands and before i go 2 sleep i wash my hands. I always have 2 keep them clean for some reason. But i hardly ever get sick. I maybe get sick once or twice a year. But when i do get sick i get really sick. Like have 2 go 2 the emergency room sick. I also have 2 check the door 2 make sure its locked at least 5 times before i go 2 sleep. When i was a little kid our mobile home that we was living in at the time got broken into. We had a golden retriever/cocker spaniel mixed dog at the time that scared the guy off. Ever since that night i have always been so paranoid when i go 2 sleep that i keep a gun next 2 me before i go 2 sleep.

Well I unnaturally obsess over my typing and tests that I take. Tests for example I will go through the test and re read the questions several times and answer them then after I finish if I have time I always have to go back and re read and make sure I didn't mess up any answers. I get nervous a lot I guess because I read things wrong sometimes and end up answering them wrong or explaining the situation wrong. When I type I get very nervous especially when I type long messages or posts.. I have to re read them at least once if not twice and check for mistakes even though I end up having mistakes in the end due to bad grammar and spelling. I try my best but I just over obsess.

I always obsess over the number 14. No idea why, every time I see the number 14, especially in clocks/timers, I always feel this strange feeling, like if I am connected to it, or something.
To another extent, 314. No, not as in PI, but as in everywhere. I see that number everywhere, video time, clocks, every hotel room I have stayed in was always room 314, I just see that number all the time, and I always obsess the entire day about!

I unnaturally obsess over baseball, and to be more specific, the Mets. Whenever I’m walking, I think about them, when I’m online, I’m looking stuff up about them, and even when I’m trying to go to sleep, I end up thinking about them for hours. I just really like baseball and the Mets, so I think about them all the time.

I wouldn't necessarily call this an obsession, but more of an odd quirk.  I've always wondered if anyone else feels the same way.

I absolutely can NOT turn on a shower head while I'm standing under it. I don't know what it is... but I just can't do it.  I have to stand out of the water stream as I turn it on, then slowly step into the shower as I let my body acclimate to the temperature. I've tried forcing myself to turn the shower head on while I'm under it.... and I just can't do it.

Don't know if it's an unnatural obsession, but I'll still say it anyway. I always find myself closing a door, whether I'm leaving a room or not. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable, if a door is opened, especially when the room is dark (the room behind the door). I feel the urge to close, because there's a feeling inside me that I'm being watched. I guess it's more of a fear, rather than a unnatural obsession, yes?
(Also, I used to be obsess with ears, when I was younger. I don't even know why.)

I unnaturally obsess over vizzed for some reason, continuing to keep my post count up, and be active. I don't know why, but it seems like it is near impossible for me to leave vizzed, it has become natural for me to just come home from school and open a vizzed tab.

Singelli : I can't do that, mainly because I am always worried that when I turn it on, I will be hit with a jet of cold water and I will jolt, and that is why I stand outside of the shower and set the water temperature before stepping in because if I stand under it, then i have no time to adjust before it hits me.

I get really nuts if anyone touches things in my room or the kitchen.  I have to put it back just where it was even though it's technically not supposed to be there.  If I am working in a part of the house I also can't have ANYONE near me or I freak out at them!  That I think I got because when I was young my mom would hover over everything I do so I've built a weird way to cope with it...  I'm a very nice and calm person but when it comes to be hovered over I tend to freak out.

Oh also I have to have a window open for fresh air even if it's for a few minutes in the winter.  I start to not be able to breath if the house is closed off for too long.  I NEED fresh air!
