This is a review for the game: Ace Attorney (beta)
Keep in mind, this is a beta, it is not complete, and if I say stuff not included by accident, it's because the full game is one of my favorite.
The beta is basically the first case from the third game in the series, Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations. Although the second case is included, there are many bugs with it. I'd see this more as something you would use to 'get to know the series'.
Let's start of,
Graphics 7/10
The game has pretty decent graphics, especially for the console it is played on. The moving screens go pretty smooth, and it is definitely a joy to see. The characters' moving mouths correspond to the speed they talk, and many more.
My experience: Sure, it isn't perfect, however I find the graphics to have high quality. It is a little glitchy at some points, but overall, pretty good.
Sound 9/10
For the amount of gameplay in the beta, the sound is perfect. All the music played fits the scenario very well, the characters well (although there really aren't that many) and just overall has a high quality. I can't say one negative thing about it, except there's not that much music and such. (this is a beta, after all)
My experience: Very enjoyable. To my shame (?) I admit that the cornered theme was my ringtone for a while. Just how much I love it. The objection theme kinda references to the original, but I won't go into detail about that.
Addictiveness: 8/10
This number is not decided on the amount of gameplay, but rather on the amount of fun a person can get from this game.
I find the game to be quite the addictive one for what it has to offer. Finding the truth could take a progress of time, logic, and memory. All the more reasons to why it is so fun. And the result is definitely worth it.
My experience: Yes, I have played all the games in the series (at least the main games), and I'm sorry if part of my judgement comes from that. But honestly, the games are so fun to play through, solve cases, break testimonies, saving clients. And you do all your work for one goal, which is worth to achieve: True justice.
Story: 10/10
What a number. Is it worth it? It sure is. The story is what makes the game (sort of). The plot, the outcomes, predictions, it all gets tied in a big circle. Without one, all the other ones would collapse. I'll give the prologue:
It starts of with a scene. In it, you can see two students talking with each other. Talking about a girl. One of them (I'll refer to him as John) knows her well, the other (I'll refer to him as Peter) doesn't want any negative stories about her. As John is about to tell Peter a dark aspect about the girl, Peter can't take it anymore and pushes John. There is a big *SNAP*, and the screen zooms in to Peter, who is looking really shocked.
Yeah, what a scene.
My experience: What can I say? All the things I would say about the story has been said, just remember it is the most important aspect of the game.
Depth: 3/10
It pains me to give this such a long score, but a beta is a beta. I'll say as much that the complete AA:T&T has 5 cases. One of which is fully playable here, one more which is playable, but full of bugs. Practically all I can possibly say about the game's depth.
My experience: Depth is something neutral for the series, as all the games have about the same amount of gameplay. 5 cases (sometimes 4), all of which get longer until the end.
Difficulty: 5/10
And even more low scores :-/ The beta only has the first case, which can be easily completed by the average ace attorney fan. However, if this is your first experience with the series, it can be quite hard. Especially the last testimonies.
My experience: As it is my favorite series, I can say I am somewhat 'skilled' at the games? So the first cases aren't that hard for me, but enjoyable non the less.
Overall score: 8.8/10
Overall, if you are new to the series, this beta is great to learn the kind of gameplay you will be facing. If you have played any of the complete games, not so much. I would see the game and the series as a 'hit or miss'. You either will love it, or not be interested. I think the gameplay is unique to other games, and worth to give a shot.
But most of all, I hope this will inspire people to check out the series, as it is definitely worth your time. |
