In Star Fox 64, you can access a warp zone at both Meteo
and Sector X.

Here, check it out:

Warp Zone - Arwingpedia

▶ Star Fox 64: Meteo Warp - YouTube

My question is; what did you think of it the first time you accessed it, and
what do you think of it now?

I just read about it and am going to try it out.
I'll post back with my reaction fresh on my mind!

Oh, yeah, and let the fan theorizing begin!

Oh man I remember this thing just like I remember the whole Black Hole and Out of This Dimension! secret in the first star Fox. I was pretty shocked when I was able to access it some time ago as a kid, it kinda freaked me out to see the sudden change. It was pretty much a bonus level if anything yet the one to Sector X was more slow..and very little bonus to it. Its a cool thing to do now for sure, really helps out on getting a high score for hits, that's for sure. I don't mess with it too much now since I prefer to take the hard route most of the time.

As far as I would speculate, its probably another version of the Black Hole and the Out of This Dimension! mixed together. So it serves as a goofy bonus but it is also the place where Andross just tosses crap in when it doesn't work out for him. Plus it also serves to change your course on the map instead of just being a dead end and the game being over like it did in the first Star Fox.

Star Fox - That Is The Laughing Asteroid. - User Screenshot

That's creepy, and I haven't even tried the Out of this dimension!
or black hole in Star Fox (SNES) yet.

This was my initial experience:

I had always wondered what would happen it
you flew through all of the rings. And Boom!

It was the creepiest Hyperspace that I had ever experienced!
The only thing that comes close was using the warp canisters in
Galaga 88.

My mind was filled with uncertainty as I travesed
the blurrt.

The first one was a creepy bonus level,

but the second one?

Oh, man, were those moving things angles?
Or were they lost souls of fallen pilots?

the Obstacles were so creepy.

You know what I think of the moving things?
I think that they are creatures of great power that have been trapped
in another dimension, not Andorss' machines. (They never shoot).

When you go into hyper space, it takes you to there home.
Whether they are spirits, or strangely beautiful beasts of some sort,
I have o idea.

I imagine that it freaked you out pretty badly.

I miss stuff like this in video games!
I love it!

Sword legion : It is always a possibility they could be something else other than Andross' machines. Since space and time are such a  vast and complex thing, messing with it could lead you anywhere. The Out of This Dimension! is something along those lines honestly, it leads you somewhere and you can't return to the Lylat system at all and its just a game over.

I don't remember if the Black Hole does that to you but I know the dimension one does. I know someone mentioned you could give the two warp zones in 64 a personality to a point where the slow one is depressing and such and you are only attacked by "static" enemies. Where as the fast one is colorful and energetic and stuff.

Its all sorts of crazy. My mind as a child was not ready for such a colorful place.. XD But yeah, video games have lost a lot of those crazed easter egg ideas. Some still keep a few like that but you rarely see that anymore.

Sword legion :

Dear god, Out of This Dimension was amazing. Best boss fight ever in the game with that one, all to the tune of "Oh When The Saints Go Marching In." I didn't care if it was a technical game over, you also technically beat the game because you saw the credits screen and the words "The End" pop up, which you can shoot at.

I never actually took the warps in the SNES one. Preferred the fixed paths over trying to find those. 64's warp zones, though... you need to take one of them (I forget if it was Asteroid Belt or Sector X that had more points through the warp than through the regular route) and manually change course on the map screen in order to maximize your scores in that game, as far as my routing saw. I can push around 1600 kills at my best in a single game from that route. Feed my money obsession, Pepper! FEED IT!

sonikku : Oh good god I remember that now! They changed the music on you in that one! XD  I thought that was one of the wackiest and best easter eggs I ever found. And that boss fight was really something, never thought i'd ever see a boss like that in Star Fox. The last time I did the warp routes in 64 I think I pushed around that many kills. I know on a regular i've pushed about 1,400 without warps. I sill can't beat that thus far. But no I hear you on the money, Star Fox be walkin' away with THE FATTEST WALLET!  XD

zerothesaint : There's a button that opens up a menu on the map. Lets you retry the last mission you completed (at the cost of one life, though you earn lives like candy in the game based on kill count alone), so you can try to earn a better score or get a different route, and there's also a change route option if you took an exit that leads to a harder difficulty path. So if you took the warp in Asteroid Belt (which instantly puts you on the hard path) and change routes to Katina (you could also change route to Fortuna, but that's worse for kills, and I also forget if the good path on that one is worth more kills than the warp, I know one warp is better than the other), then change routes on Katina back to the easy route, then warp or get Mission Accomplished in Sector X to go to Macbeth (change routes if you take the warp, I forget which of the two paths is worth more kills), and get the Mission Accomplished on Macbeth and Area 6, you have a good shot to break 1500 with that. This route let me just barely break 1600 on my best ever run.

Though it's worth it to hear Pepper's shocked expression when he sees the massive bill. "WHAAAAAAAT!?"

Sorry for the massive paragraph, it's just the route I take.
