I think it's time for a new set of questions.

The theme this time around is: Alaska!

1. Well known for its abundance of wildlife, there was hardly a day that went by when me and my siblings didn't see some amazing creature roaming the streets.  One day a particular creature was outside our middle school lunchroom and freaked a lot of kids out. What animal was it?  Be a little specific... for example, instead of saying dog, I would say Dalmatian.

2. My dad was into photography while there, and he took ASTOUNDING photos. He actually even sold them on a professional level.  One day however, an animal took a disliking to him, and started rushing towards my dad.  I thought I'd be the hero and save the day, so I opened the car door so my dad could hop in and be safe.  However, my dad had other ideas and instead ran head first into the car door! His camera fell to the ground, and I was horrified.  What animal was likely as mad as my dad?

3.  Name one Alaskan animal I never saw.

4. We'd often drive around the back of the air force base just to watch the wildlife.  What creature was the most elusive, and amazingly canny? We would actually follow this creature's trail through the snow as quietly as possible..... only do discover that the animal would dart off the road and loop back around so that it could stare at us from the beginning of the road.

5. Unfortunately, a lot of the environment in Alaska is being destroyed, leaving few places for the animals to escape.  This can cause problems, and one day while driving around some lakes, we saw a mother black bear rummaging around a dumpster.  My father stepped out to take photos, but she seemed hesitant to leave the area.  That's when my dad noticed peculiar sounds and glanced into the dumpster. Inside were.... bear cubs!!!!  They were trapped and could not escape because they had been rummaging for food and somehow fallen in. (The dumpster was nestled into a hill side)  My dad helped them out one by one, and it was adorable to see them run away screaming, and trying to clamber up the first tree they came across.  How many were there?

6. Although most people think of Alaska as snow-laden year round, it really is quite a colorful place in the summer. Alaska has the most beautiful landscapes I have ever witnessed. My mother let us grow flowers in a garden behind our trampoline, and ever since then, I associate one flower with Alaska because I grew it there for so many years.  What flower was it?

7. How many cruises did I go on while living in Alaska?

8.  In Alaska, the biggest sport around is not football or hockey.  It's dog-mushing.  Something no other state can claim, Iditarod participants are like huge celebrities in the last frontier.  Even the dogs themselves are celebrated and well known for their ability to traverse the harsh terrain over a period of 9-15 days.  My sisters and I were super excited because my father managed to snatch some memorabilia for us from the race itself.  Feeling like we had something valuable from a celebrity... what was it that my father managed to give us, and I still own to this day?  (Hint: we were younger and didn't know any better.  A quick Google search of the Iditarod would reveal this item in almost every picture. Can you name it correctly?)

9. How long did I live in Alaska?

10. What city did I live in? (Hint: it's "large" and near an air force base.)

Yeesh. Been awhile since I updated this thread, and I think it's finally run its course.  Thanks to everyone who participated, but I don't know that there is anything else to ask. I've given all the interesting stuff away! XD

Local Mods : Please close?  Love you guys!

Okay, so here are the answers to the last set of questions... woohoo!

It was a grizzly bear.  All the kids got so excited that they started standing on tables and ignoring all authority figures.  LOL The bear was right next to our cafeteria windows, digging through the dumpster without a care in the world about the streets and cars and people around it!

hilacle:  You made me laugh with the domestic dogs guess. XD
Nobody got this one, sadly, but I'll give thelastrequim half credit.

It was a moose.  My dad had a strange talent of really irking them, which was amusing since he thought he knew them so well. I remember one time he thought he could make a moose more comfortable by bending over and picking up sticks. He'd put them next to his head and snap them. He told us later that he wanted the moose to feel like he was there for the same reasons it was (food) so that it didn't feel threatened. Ahhh, my dad is a wonderful man!

In truth though, running into the car would have been a stupid idea, since the moose could have simply rammed the truck door with its antlers.  Moose are very bulky creatures that have troubles making sharp turns, so running -around- something is a much safer idea.  Just a little trivia in case any of you ever run into an angered moose.

thelastrequim: great job!
angelbear1297: You were the one to make me laugh here.

3.  Name one Alaskan animal I never saw.

Alaska has so many animals that there were probably tons I didn't see.  I know I didn't see a polar bear.  I did see seals I'm pretty sure, but I don't know about walruses.  As for Spectacled Cormorant... someone did research.  O.o Seeing as I don't even know what that is, I'm pretty sure you're right.  Gonna google that ... bird?... as soon as I'm done here. lol

It was a wolf. My dad tried to snap a good picture of one the whole time we lived there. I think he only succeeded once.

angelbear... you're awesome again.  I wish that were true. XD

(The dumpster was nestled into a hill side)  My dad helped them out one by one, and it was adorable to see them run away screaming, and trying to clamber up the first tree they came across.  How many were there?

There were three.  And they were adorable. XD

Congrats to everyone on this one. That was amazing. O.o

Maybe this wasn't such a fair question.  LOL They were tiger lilies.  ^.^

Gonna have to look up a starflower.  O.o

7. How many cruises did I go on while living in Alaska?

Just one.  My parents  really didn't have enough money to do such fancy things, but they worked hard to give my grandparents a memorable experience the year the visited.  It was definitely one of the smallest cruises in Alaska, but I'm sure it was amazing.  Why am I only sure?  Sadly, I have very few memories of it. I just remember squabbling with someone and getting into trouble.  I was then put in 'time out' and had to sit at a table inside for 30 or so minutes.  I kept hearing people outside shout excitedly  "Whale! Whale!"  I cried bitterly to miss it.

I know my parents never intended to ruin the experience for me, but sadly it's all I remember. LOL

It's a dog bootie.
thelastrequim, Gonna give you credit even though you didn't name them correctly.
angelbear, do you know how awesome that would be?!

9. How long did I live in Alaska?

Six years.  I used to take pride in saying I had lived there for most of my life.  That's no longer true, but it's definitely the place I developed most of my personality.

10. What city did I live in? (Hint: it's "large" and near an air force base.)
I lived in Anchorage, Alaska.

It's kinda funny that you all chose Fairbanks.  XD I never got to go there though.

Yeesh. Been awhile since I updated this thread, and I think it's finally run its course.  Thanks to everyone who participated, but I don't know that there is anything else to ask. I've given all the interesting stuff away! XD

Okay, so here are the answers to the last set of questions... woohoo!

Gonna google that ... bird?... as soon as I'm done here. lol

It was a wolf. My dad tried to snap a good picture of one the whole time we lived there. I think he only succeeded once.

angelbear... you're awesome again.  I wish that were true. XD

There were three.  And they were adorable. XD

Congrats to everyone on this one. That was amazing. O.o

LOL

It's a dog bootie.
thelastrequim, Gonna give you credit even though you didn't name them correctly.
