I've been thinking about this game a lot lately. Is it some kind of a sub-conscious desire that I have driving me to find and play this game? While doing a little research an this particular installment of Civilization, I came across some fun and interesting facts on Wikipedia that I thought some of you fellow strategists may enjoy as well.

In 1997, "Computer Gaming World gave it the Strategy Game of the Year award."

TEN YEARS LATER "i
n 2007, [it] was ranked as third in IGN's list of the 100 greatest video games of all time."

Even as recently as "
2012, G4tv ranked it as the 62nd top video game of all time."

Maybe these statistics describe why I love this game so much. I will never forget the circumstances around the first time I became familiar with it. I was living with a roommate and we each had a PlayStation. One day, he went to the local electronics retailer and brought this game home. I watched him play it for several days. He seemed to have some strange fascination with creating new cities with obscene names but otherwise he would only play each of his civ creations for a few hundred years and then restart the game. So one night I put the disc in the PS1 and played until morning. He got up the next morning to get ready for work and checked out how I was doing. I had advanced my civilization to the point that I was waging war against the other countries with F-16's and Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles. He said something like "Whoa, I didn't know you could do that!". To which I responded "Oh, that's nothing. Watch this!" I then proceeded to explode a nuclear warhead in my enemy's capital city thereby bringing their war production efforts to a screeching halt.

There was one more interesting thing that I learned from Wikipedia. "
In June 2012, a Reddit user named Lycerius posted details of his decade long Civilization II game,[13] since dubbed "The Eternal War". This garnered a great deal of interest from users of the site and the story quickly went viral, spreading across the web to many well known blogs and news sites. The game, which had been played since 2002, closely mimicked the regime found in the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, with three superpowers all engaged in a perpetual multiple-front total warfare."

With further research I found this article. If you would like you can read his detailed and fascinating account too.

I would  to see this game available on this site and have already suggested it to tRIUNE. Since the maintenance is over I'm hoping that this might happen soon.

I don't think that I've ever heard of this game, or series, until I saw it on Vizzed. It's seems interesting though, I might see what it's about sometime. Anyways it's added now.
