Just recently... In the USA, Georgia. There was a school shooting. Again. I'm so mad at how people like the gunman would go to a school with an AK47 assault rifle. Such an idiot. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and they've got that little jerk in custody. They're picking the kids up now. "The kids don't need to go through this," said a parent. So right. That little gunman better be sentenced HARD for his stupidity. What does he get from trying to shoot people. There were shots, but no one was hit. I'm angry. Seriously. What does that bloody idiot want with the poor kids. Why is this happening a lot nowadays? Are people that stupid now? What's the point of being a complete retard? What the hell? I'm just really mad at how he held people captive. I'm glad DeKalb county handled it perfectly. And the police, too. It's great. The GBI and SWAT helped a lot. What a complete... My uncle and aunt live near there. They're monitoring the news. I'm just so mad that idiots like the gunman try to bomb and shoot. The idiot should be locked up for the rest of his life. Again, I'm glad how the FBI, GBI, police, officials, and even the teachers and principal handled it. It was so professional. What's your opinion on this? I'm really mad at how our society are being stupid. I'm glad everything's fine and the parents didn't riot. I'm watching the news. I'm really mad, and glad too. I'm sorry for being so vulgar, but I want this gunman to be punished hard. I'm really happy with Georgia officials, but really... EDIT: It was a fully automatic AK47, and the gunman's excuse was that he was off of his meds. That's pathetic. "The kids don't need to go through this," said a parent. So right. Pretty much it is the way to make what you do matter to people. Those who resort to this are trying to make a final statement that everyone will hear. What better way than a kill spree in the place that pretty much everybody puts their kids? The purpose is to affect as many people as possible. Anyone who has a kid is affected by this because there is always the daunting thought that "it could have been at my kid's school". It has gotten to be a serious matter. It is crazy how much police and SWAT are now required to train for this exact thing. For example, last summer (2012), one of the elementary schools down here was the training ground for SWAT and police. About 20 real teachers were used for this training. EVERYONE (except for the teachers) had extremely lifelike automatic weapons and handguns. They fired paint, but the sound they made was identical to the real thing. So what happened was that the teachers were to go about like they would in a normal class day (only there were no kids there as students). 2 SWAT team members took the role of school shooters. They would get into the school, kidnap whoever they wanted and held them hostage in a room. They would shoot anyone that they chose to shoot. Teachers who got shot were to lie where they were hit and be dead for the remaining of the training. They were not allowed to move at all. The rest of the SWAT would enter the school halls with no knowledge of where the 2 and their hostages were. The point was to take them out with as few casualties as possible. In the exercise, one cop was killed, one was injured, and one SWAT was hit but not killed. I was not working for the school district at that time, so I was not personally a part of this. But I heard from many teachers that I work with that even though it was training, it was the most terrifying thing they have ever experienced. Couldn't imagine what the real thing would feel like. rcarter2 : Yes, I agree. You're right, that's a good post. And, they had training for something like this? So, they would pretend to be shooters and some defending the school? Well, that training was good. I hope if something like this happens there, which I hope it doesn't, it pays off. My cousin was in a high school, learning, close enough to hear the shots. I'm not sure how they responded, though. Anyways, I'm glad it's all good. I don't know if I said, but did you know that the guy had bombs in his car? And, they had training for something like this? goodboy : You didn't, but it isn't entirely uncommon for there to be bombs in the car. Columbine shooters had the same thing. But they also had hidden propane tanks around the school as well. But they did spend a LONG time preparing. Over a year. But yeah, that was basically the training. Although they didn't have those defending the school. That would imply that they were already there. It was to simulate the shooters already gotten into the school and took hostages as well as made casualties. So the ones who were apprehending the shooters had to wait the amount of time it typically takes to drive to the school before they entered. Police entered first because they usually get there before SWAT since they have cars already patrolling the city. It pretty much ran exactly like a school shooting would run. rcarter2 : Yes. It's not uncommon. Many shooters try to blow things up as a last resort. Which is stupid. And that training sounds interesting. It'd be great if people everywhere did the training. And that training sounds interesting. It'd be great if people everywhere did the training. |

goodboy :
Itd be great if people everywhere didnt need that training. If that was carried out here id take it as a sign it was time to jump ship. This is getting completely ridiculous. rcarter2 : I think my jaw dropped a little as I read what you typed. I've never heard of such a thing and it makes me so sad that it's almost a necessity or seen as one. I think if I had to go through that training, I would start bawling. I can't stand the idea of any of my kids being harmed or threatened... as awful as they might be. I don't know if I could handle something like that very well in training. If it happened in real life, I'd immediately play the part of protective hen and likely be quite a fighter out of necessity. But just for the sake of training? That would be HARD. My mentor from this summer came to visit me one last time last week, and we were discussing something like this. She had been the assistant principal of my high school and had become principal after I graduated. I respect her quite a bit and I love her to pieces. I have no idea what brought up the topic, but she asked me "Were you going to Pinson when that kid got shot?" Pinson is just about one of the mildest schools out there, so I was shocked, and I told her I wasn't. She then proceeded to tell me about a shooting she witnessed herself. She choked up as she told me about it, and even though I didn't know the kid, I even shed a tear myself. It HURTS to know that there are people out there who want to hurt our kids. I have to wonder what goes on in the mind of someone like that. What in the world compels them to want to kill or injure CHILDREN? We used to have to mainly worry about shootings in colleges and high schools... but more and more lately this kind of violence has been spread to our elementary schools. It's sickening... It's so sickening. Our society can be quite depressing. However, I think our school needs to go through some kind of training like that. Our school is so ridiculously insecure, and we live in one of the top most dangers cities in the country. We had a red alert drill, and teachers were opening and closing doors like crazy. Nobody EVER came to check my room to make sure it was locked and kids were out of site, either. We are risking the safety of our CHILDREN, and our very own administration is so clueless.... I had to tell them about a safety idea which is super easy: put a Velcro strip on the inside of each classroom door frame. Next to the door, another strip with a large, laminated sheet attached. When a drill occurs (or heaven forbid... a real event!).... the teacher is to lock the classroom door, and then move that laminated sheet to the door frame. This would cover the windows and prevent an attacker from seeing inside. Have they implemented the simple idea or even discussed it? Of course not.... But just for the sake of training? Brigand : way to miss the point and say something irrational, I suppose if every gun is taken away the criminals will disappear right? I mean it's not like the criminals will laugh that now no one can defend themselves while they still have guns since they don't care for the law. It's damn simple thorough and in depth background checks on people before they are allowed to get guns. Isn't it funny how everyone of these rampages are at the hands of loners or crazy people who need meds or forgot to take them? |

UFC : Do the criminals there sell AK`s for children? (ok I guess yes, my bad) Over here only the army and the criminals carry assault rifles. But for some reason the criminals who use the automatic weapons only to shoot each other. We have the most guns per capita in whole Europe but still people don't shoot each other on the street or during burglaries. So yeah I guess I miss the point, thank you very much. But sure, we have had some school shootings too. Columbine copycats. But with handguns. I guess some lives were actually spared since the two of them didn't get their hands on heavier arsenal. And after those incidents they restricted laws on people on certain kind of medication getting hold of any sort of guns. So yes, there are things I agree you with.
