Anyways, I actually took some time and made an animation a while ago. I took it into WMM and added some music, credits, etc.

I think it came out okay, but I'd like to hear other peoples' opinions.

Only the first 25 seconds or so are movie, the rest is credits.

I know it's pretty dumb. Believe me, though, after two days without sleep this seemed pretty witty at 3 AM. I see now that it is not.

It probably won't make ANY sense unless you've played Mother 2 (Earthbound)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUU3UzGOJcI

What I mainly want advice on is not only animating, but also drawing - that Starman is what I'd consider a masterpiece. I can't draw at all. I've been practicing my entire life and taken several classes, I just can't get any better. Anybody have advice for learning to draw decent pictures?

Also, I'm open for all comments and such. But please, don't be excessively abusive about it. I have no problems with "Sorry, but that was really bad...". I have a HUGE problem with "Lol that was so bad what a total flaming pile you suck".

It was nice, the parts that did move were pretty smooth, was this your first try?.
And as far as the drawing goes I can't really try to help unless I see more.
If you want to draw people from memory either take an anatomy course, buy an anatomy book, or try a quick anatomy tutorial from deviant art.
Also try drawing things that are in front of you, that helps a lot.
By the way you should enter our art contest .

Work on your drawing skills before you try another animation, it'll make the process easier .
(Sorry if his didn't help .)

I had been fooling around with the animation tools on DoInk for a while, but this was my first attempt at anything longer than 0:05.

Would I need an anatomy course for cartoon people? That's what I'm interested in more than anatomically correct pictures. I dunno how I could... our scanner is CRAP... but if I figure out how to scan pictures from my little sketchbook I'll show those. Don't expect them any time soon, though.

I've drawn things in front of me before... How it turns out really depends on what it is. Some things I can get the gist of, other things... not so much.

And what art contest would that be? I've seen some stuff about it but I haven't actually seen a link or anything yet.

And believe it or not it did help. I hadn't even thought about a book on anatomy to help me draw.

Here's a useful quick anatomy tutorial, believe it or not it's useful for cartoon style drawing so you can accurately proportion body parts and it reduces the need for reference photos, it's also good for animation cause you learn the movements of muscles .There's no real need to buy anything unless you want to study anatomy in depth, otherwise just look online.

If you have a camera you could use that instead of a scanner, but no hurry .

Here's the link for the art contest, we could use more entries .

Edit: You may want to check this guy out http://inkthinker.deviantart.com/ he has some cool animations .
