I wasn't always the kind of guy to play tennis, I mean back then I was more of a basketball kind of guy, But after playing Mario tennis for the N64, I had had the biggest tennis addiction, I play it at the contra Costa college, I play it with friends, and so on. So what was my opinion on this amazing tennis game for the N64? You are about to find out, because this is Mario tennis for the N64!

Story-N/A
There is no real story here, but here is one I just made up out of enjoyment! The mushroom is holding up a big tennis tournament, And Mario and all of his friends are invited! Who will take home the trophy! That's for you to find out!

Gameplay-8/10
Mario tennis is well, a tennis game, and there are a bunch of modes for you to play in! I will break down the modes one by one, First is the single player mode where you can the game just by yourself, The modes here are pretty simple, you can play an exhibition match with a computer player, or better you can play doubles mode where you and another partner take down the opposing team! There is a tournament mode where you can play through a series of matches in order to win the tournament, and well that is all I can explain for the single player! As for the multiplayer, you can play everything from the single player with friends! Exhibition, special games, etc. The controls are pretty simple for a tennis game, You control your character's movements by tilting the control stick, you press A to hit the ball when it is near you, and you can press all these other face buttons to do special stuff like lobbing, drop shots, etc. special serves, etc. There are a bunch of characters from the Mario universe to unlock and some are there from the outset, these guys include Mario, Luigi, peach, yoshi, bowser, Donkey Kong junior, and so on. Anyways, that is pretty much it for the gameplay.

Graphics-8/10
This game was released quite later in the N64's life span, 2000 that is, and at the time, this game look pretty good to say the least! All the courts and such are very wacky and have alot going on which makes them an absolute blast to play on, now as for the characters, they look pretty good as well! Mario looks nice, Luigi looks good,and so on...heck the game even has some underrated characters like Donkey Kong Junior! The HUD in each match is pretty self explanatory to say the least, when the match is over that is, And once it is, It shows you how much games you won, some other stuff, and your overall score for the match. This is probably the best looking tennis game that I have played in a while!

Sound-7/10
There is not a whole lot to the sound, but for what it is worth, It is OK! All the songs in each of the courts really fit the levels real well, But one thing though is that there are 5 or so different songs depending on where the match is currently boiled down to, For example, there is a tiebreak song, there is a match point song, and so on. As for the sound effects, they are your standard fare, One of the sounds you will be hearing the most is the sound of your characters slamming their tennis rackets, Oh yeah, each court in the game also has a song for when you win and for when you lo-OH Wait! That is not proved until Mario power tennis, I forgot!

Addictiveness-8/10
This game can actually grow on you after a while! And here are some reasons why, First off is the multplayer, and boy is it a blast! I enjoyed having my friends over at my place on the weekends playing some old fashioned tennis, Mario tennis, and second is the game in general! It has a very appealing feel to it that you don't get in other tennis games, which is quite awesome! Other tennis games I know are just, well, tennis!

Oh man does this game offer alot of stuff to do! I mean first off, the game does have alot of game modes besides the multiplayer! First off, the game has a transfer thingy where if you Mario tennis for Game boy color, then you can connect to this one to get exclusive characters from the original! And second, yeah, the multiplayer has a tons of stuff for you and your friends to do, exhibition matches, special games, etc. Yeah, this is quite big for a tennis game! Don't you guys agree?

Difficulty-5/10
The game isn't really that hard, except some of those matches in the tournaments can be extremely hard! Dang you star cup! And when playing exhibiton you can adjust the difficulty of your opponents from novice to max, max being the hardest!

Overall-8.5/10
If you want an excellent tennis game, then look no forward then this one! I mean seriously! What is not to like about this game? It has fun, charm, challenge, and a bunch of other things to do! So that is why I gave the game an 8.5! This has been my 97th review, and I will be back later with my 98th!
