If you guys remember correctly, The last yoshi game I reviewed was yoshi topsy turvy for the Game boy advance, While it wasn't the best platformer on the Game boy advance, It was still a pretty OK one at that, mostly because the game uses motion sensitivity in which you can tilt the Game boy advance to unveil secret paths, Now what we are looking at here is one of yoshi's first adventures, And this yoshi's story for the N64, the game holds yoshi's cute little look we all know, But does this mean that the game is good? Well that is for me to know and you to find out everybody here on vizzed board! Anyways, lets get to the review!

Story-7/10
The main plot of this game is that one peaceful day in yoshi's land, Bowser's evil little son bowser jr has randomly burst into the scene, thus turning yoshi's whole land into a storybook of sorts! And even worse, he has stolen the yoshi's big happy tree and scattered all the fruit! It is now up to you to help the yoshis get back the tree and get out of this storybook like world before things get into the wrong hands!

Gameplay-7/10
Yoshi's story is a 2D platformer much like in the veins of Kirby 64 or pandemonium for the PS1, but anyways, there are 3 main modes in the game, Story mode has you going through the main storyline trying to recover the tree and free out of the storybook universe, Time trial lets you has going through levels you have played already but in the quickest time possible, and I haven't played practice mode in a long time, so I forgot what that was. So anyways, in story mode, you start each stage out by picking out any colored you desire, let it be green, black, pink, blue, etc. Then you jump into the real stages, the actual stages have you going through vass linear levels collecting fruit coins eggs and defeating enemies along the way, There is a frame of fruit in the top hand of corner of the screen to show you how much fruit you have collected, if you collect all of the fruit during in the middle of the level, the level will automatically end, and yoshi will do his signature chant, There aren't many bosses in the game, but for what they are worth, the are Ok, But I will get to that later. The controls are pretty simple, you use the D-pad or analog stick to move yoshi, you use the A button to jump, and you use the B button to stick out your tounge and swallow stuff, anyways, that is it for the gameplay.

Graphics-8/10
This game was released in late 1997, and this was one year after the N64 came to the scene with such amazing looking games like Super Mario 64,  goldeneye, and for what It is worth, this game looks really good! Especially considering It does take place in a storybook! But anyways, all the levels that you will be exploring are big, cartoony, and bursting with color and atmosphere. As for the characters, they look pretty good, yoshi looks good, his enemies look good and so on. The HUD in each level is pretty self explanatory to say the least, The top left hand corner shows a happy sun that represents your health, as you get hurt by enemies the sun will start to die out though, so be careful! Once he is all blue you are officaly killed and must restart from your last checkpoint! And around the screen there is a frame with all the fruit you have collected in the level so far, try to collect as much As you can! Anyways, that is it for the graphics.

Sound-8/10
The sound in this game has got to be without a doubt one of the best parts of the game itself, The soundtrack in this game has a really happy and cartoony feel which helps you prepare for the overall mood and feel of the game, Every level you will be exploring has quiet yet happy sounding music that really sounds like something you would hear from yoshi, as for the sound effects, they are pretty good as well! You get boings, pows, ground pounds, and a bunch of other yoshi stuff, and whenever you die you get yoshi's signature battle cry whenever something terrible happens to him!

Addictiveness-8/10
How likely am I to play this game again? Um you should know that...VERY likely! I remembered actually enjoying this one when my dad first got it for me! I mean sure it is not the best platformer on the N64, But at least it is the most affordable out there, until we got Kirby 64 in 2000, One thing that will have you coming back to the game is how much stuff there is to collect in each level! Each level has about 30-40 fruits to collect, and for me that is quite alot.

Depth-7/10
The game is pretty long and has alot to do, for one, the game is about 7 worlds long each with 6 levels, so the game will most likely take you 2-3 hours to get through, and there is alot of fruit to collect in each level, so that should keep you pretty busy as well!

Difficulty-4/10
The difficulty of this game has got to be one of the game's low points, the game can be really easy at most times, but that might be for it's own good, But if there is one thing I cannot get over, it has got to be the cloud'n'candy fight! This boss has got to be the most pathetic thing ever! You just lick him until he is dead! He doesn't even bother to attack! But some other parts in this game still gave me little trouble, and that is for the best.

Overall-7.5/10
I had fun with this one to say the least, I mean the game has charm, fun, challenge, and everything else you come to expect from a yoshi game, so what is not to like about it? So if you see this one, just buy it will you? I gave this game a 7.5 because how much it offers for you in the meantime, challenge, fun, replay value, etc. So this has been RedHotToddy's 91st review, see you guys way later! Chances are I might change my layout after I get to 100 reviews, I am really getting tired of this Zelda one! But this one is still Ok though.
