Maybe this is just me. (And maybe this thread is in the wrong place or against the rules, If so... I'm sorry mods.) But I've been noticing more and more that a lot of games are being rated a bit high on the difficulty ratings by being rated high based on that games difficulty  itself rather than in comparison to other games that are much harder.

Almost as if the people reviewing are referring to their own skill level more than the difficulty of the game itself. I know it's important to write how you feel about the game but you shouldn't abandon your core essentials either. There needs to be a balance between the two that I'm noticing more and more that the balance I'm talking about  is often lacking in many reviews, Not all of them but a good deal of them all the same.

I just wanted to get this out there and hear everyone's opinion on this because it's been starting to bug me just a little and I was hoping maybe that others would share my thoughts on this or show me their thoughts on it instead and give people a good conversation to have during this discussion. Enjoy yourself to the fullest if you can.

I've always givended a fair balance on the difficulty despite the game being really hard,  because I have always enjoyed some kind of game even though it how challenging or a pain in the butt it can be, Smash tv would defeintly be an example.   If reviewers are actually doing this, I don't mind, as long as they have a good reason for there  statement, and choosing of difficulty.

It's a common misconception with the younger audience that didn't grow up playing NES/SNES/Genesis games.

You see it a lot now where if a game is hard, kids hate it. I've always laughed at that and call people out on it when I see it.

Not a whole lot you can do, people are going to do that no matter what.

It's all based on the reviewers skill level and how hard they thought the game was.  I don't think a lot of people compare it to other games.  I've tried the best I can to give the difficulty an honest opinion compared to games like Contra.  I see what you mean by this but I don't think it will change.  People will just continue to grade the difficulty on how well they got through the game.  If it's a well written review, I don't mind it all that much.  I totally understand what you are getting at though.

Yup.  I've seen reviews like this, even on professional websites.  I think that the amount of frustration the reviewer had with the game should factor into the review.  However, there's a difference between cheaply frustrating and genuinely frustrating.  When a game is cheaply frustrating, it's usually due to poor game design or glitches.  When a game is genuinely frustrating, the person playing the game is likely to come back for more, getting better at the game, and lessening their frustration.
