New Super Mario bros U. The games don't differ much so it is mainly due to the better graphics and I  like some of the items they added in it.  Other than that there isn't much different between the games.

Although I haven't played New Super Mario Bros. U, my favorite so far is... a three-way tie. I'm not even kidding.

New Super Mario Bros. was more original than the rest (the sequels were just this game with more stuff added), and it had very well done level designs. I also liked the concept of 2 of the 8 worlds being optional.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was fun, though the motion controls were screwed up. For me Mario always spins when I don't want him to and end up dying, and he doesn't spin when I shake the Wii remote. This gets pretty annoying fast. The only reason I would prefer this game is for the Co-Op and Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii (a massive fan-made mod to the game. Possibly the only game mod out there that is more well-made than the original, unmodded game).

New Super Mario Bros. 2 would've been my choice, if it weren't so darn easy. Why is it so easy? Not only are the levels way too easy, but you get, like, infinite lives. So many flippin' coins. I got 99 lives in the beginning of the 3rd world in the game. But I still did have lots of fun playing this game. I got 300,000 coins before I got bored.

I have to change my opinion because I finally got to play New Super Mario Bros. U, and I think that the game is by far better than the Wii version, but I have lost a lot of interest in 2D Mario games, and moved on to Super Mario 3D World.
