Red! One of my very few games which I have completed 100%. I love this game, but unlike my other reviews, I am just gonna head straight to the review...
Okay, Graphics. Very basic and simple, but pleasing nonetheless. Although the sprites could have been designed nicer, the general graphics were nice all round. The game is mainly in black and white, but if you go in Lavender Town, it turns purple, or in Viridian city, it turns green...apparently. I'm colourblind so I don't have a clue. But anyway, I love the graphics in this game. I'm giving it a 9.
Sounds-I love the sounds in this game! Every piece of music is great, from the happy-go-lucky tune of Route 1 to the creepy, infamous melody of Lavender Town. Indigo Plateau had a great atmosphere to it, it made you feel like you had a champion to beat. S.S Anne had an almost rustic feel to its theme, and the Champion battle theme is so epic-a word I don't use much...I'm giving sounds a 9-I felt like the pokemon sounded a lot like machines, I mean you don't walk through a field and her the DARuuNT a Rattata makes, right?
Addictiveness-When you are truly trying to catch 'em all, you will become addicted to it. I was addicted because I was trying to catch 'em all, and I eventually succeeded. With the help of an old friend called Mr.No. But really, the amount of training you need to do also contributes to this factor. I'll give it a 10.
Story-The story is basically this. You are a 10 year old boy who dreams of becoming the very best Pokemon trainer ever, overcoming challenges and dangerous obstacles, and potentially risking your life. And your mother lets you do it. You also can't talk, apparently. And there is a mad old man in the town who frets over you walking in the grass but is find with you taking down an entire criminal organisation which kills if it needs to. I'll give it a 6.
Depth-If you are aiming to collect as much as possible and train em all up, then yes, this game has depth. But if you are just sticking with one team throughout the whole game, then it doesn't. Simple as that...6.
Difficulty-Pokemon has no difficulty...you only need to keep your pokemon leveled evenly throughout the entire game before you turn insane because of the game. And it isn't hard to train if you have defeated previous pokemon before, isn't it? 4.
Recount of scores: Graphics:9 Sound:9 Addictiveness:10 Story:6 Depth:6 Difficulty:4.
So generally, this game was great in the sounds, addictiveness and graphics sectors, but things start going belly up for the three behind the real reason for the game: Story, Depth, and Difficulty. It doesn't even matter if the game has bad graphics or sound, that's only a lust. But it NEEDS a good story, even difficulty, and depth...sadly, this game didn't.
Overall score is(according to mean)...7.3. What a short review... |
