The following review is written by Malkin77:
Emerald 386 is overall a very well hacked version of the original Emerald Pokémon game. The idea of placing all Pokémon from generations I through III was a brilliant idea I'm sure many would agree with. The developer when making this also made all of the trainers stronger by several levels than they were in the original game. Example: your first battle with your rival, the Pokémon is lv.5 but in this, it is lv.7. However there is only one flaw myself and my fellow gamers have encountered. That being that the tickets the developer placed in the game that take you to battle deoxys, jirachi, and mew, which you purchase at Lilycove City for 60,000 poke, seem to have not been coded correctly and do not work properly to everyone for some odd reason. The game when first released was used as a competition for a month to see who could capture as many of the 386 Pokémon the fastest. No one captured all of them. So with that being said lets move on the specific areas.
Graphics:
The graphics in this game are as good as any game released in the mid 2000's for a handheld system. Good, but not as great as they could be here in 2013. To me the graphics for this game for its time were perfect and nothing to complain about. I would have given it a 10 if a few of the Pokémon I noticed while playing, had a thin line around them from where you could tell they did not belong in the game and were from a different generation. A line almost looking as if photoshopped into the game. Other then this one mishap graphics are as spot on as they should be.
Sound:
The sound in this game is just as it should be. The same as it would if you were playing on a DS, but with that it means it is the original 16-bit music that when you first start playing you are excited about, but then start to realize it is slowly annoying you and you quickly mute the game. Besides the music, the effects of "Super Effective" POW type noise you hear and the cries of the Pokémon, I have not noticed any issues with any of that. Just your usual annoying Nintendo music is all.

Addictiveness:
This game is very addicting if you are a Pokémon fan. Emerald being one of the more Favored games in the series, it is wonderful having all of the amazing Pokémon through the best generations in the fans opinions. With the increased difficulty of the game it keeps you coming back to try to have a better lineup to ensure your victories in your up coming battles.
Story:
The story to this game is just like every other Pokémon game and is why it is not as high as it could be. Any Pokémon fan knows the story is not why you play Pokémon, because most Pokémon games are you run in to your rival team (such as team aqua and team magma in this game), then you stop them or attempt to anyway, then they escape and you face them again, and again, and again till they finally call it quits. That is all a Pokémon game usually is with the story and that's all this one is. You go and find team magma then team aqua and you face them several times before they cause the brawl between kyogre and groudon, then you be a hero and prevent the destruction of the world. Bottom line its a Pokémon story, so don't get too excited for it.
Depth:
The depth to this game, if you are trying to beat it for what it was intending to make you do, is capturing all 386 Pokémon. Which will take you at least a month. If that is not strong and dedicated depth to playing a game I don't know what is. That is equivalent to playing Grand Theft Auto IV and finding all the pigeons around the islands without looking them up. If you are looking for a game to play that will take you a while to finish to 100% completion, this is it. With all 386 Pokémon possible, and even a few on mirage island which is near impossible to get to, you will be hunting for ever. Just to make it harder there is not a guide to finding all of them anywhere. I have searched and friends have searched, so good luck on finding all of them. Just makes it that more interesting on accomplishing this treacherous feat.
Difficulty:
This game as stated within depth is a very difficult game, the trainers Pokémon are harder so just completing the story is a daunting task, if you are playing to catch every Pokémon you will spend many hours in frustration, and it seems every trainer always has a move to counter your plan to victory. The difficulty is hard but is not higher because the controls are very simple to learn and is just like most Pokémon games but with a twist.
All in all I was satisfied with this game and if you are a Pokémon trainer looking for a challenge and a game you can play for quite a while, this game is definitely for you. Thank you for reading this review by Malkin77, have a good day and remember, BATTLE ON!
