OverAll: I found Mega Man 3 to be about as good as 2, perhaps a tiny bit better. With improved controls, excellent music and graphics, good difficulty, I would highly recommend this game.
This game scores an 8.5/10 (above great).

Graphics: Another step above the last title. Most stage’s backgrounds aren’t just solid color anymore; some backgrounds like at the start of Magnet Man’s stage have a nice gradient. Speaking of Magnet Man’s stage you can see batteries that have “RW” on them which means, Right Wily since Dr. Light (or Right as he’s called in Japan) and Dr. Wily were working together in this game. The stage select and Robot Master presentation is nicer in this game too.

Sound: 3 has some of my favorite soundtracks in the series. The music quality is starting to sounds less NESish like earlier titles. Some of the music for 3 was cut off for some reason. The Proto Man credit roll and the Wily Tower intro theme were cut.

Addictiveness: I go back and play 3 a lot. Compared to the other six NES games 3 is the longest with 19 stages total. The Master weapons are fun to experiment with; trying out what enemies are destroyed with Top Spin is fun. Only thing that I found as a turn off for 3 was the Doc Robot section. It seemed like an odd way to extend the game. Perhaps if the story was integrated into the game it’d make more since why you fight them.

Story: With his plans foiled twice, Dr. Wily decides to begin working with Dr. Light and put the plans for world domination behind him. The two build a giant robot named Gamma to keep peace. Robot Masters who were in mining worlds go berserk and take the eight power crystals that are needed to get Gamma running. Mega Man with his new friend Rush go out to retrieve the stolen crystals. One their journey Mega Man and Rush meet with a mysterious robot named Break Man who has abilities nearly identical to Mega Man’s.

Depth: I go back and play 3 a lot.

Difficulty: Mega Man 3 is slightly more difficult than 2. I found the Doc Robot stages and battles to be the hardest parts of the game. Wily’s Tower ended up being the easiest part in the game, even the bosses are a breeze and most of them are weak to Top Spin besides Yellow Devil Mk-II. Speaking of Yellow Devil, compared to the one from the first game, this one is much easier since the pieces move slower and you have E-Tanks. The final battle can be ended with one hit with the Top Spin.

Basic Gameplay: Sliding has now been introduced into the series in 3. By pressing down on the D-Pad and A Mega Man will slide across the ground which is helpful in getting to places he couldn’t normally get to and to dodge enemy attacks. Rush, Mega Man’s robotic dog companion has also been added who replaces Item 1, 2, and 3. Rush has three forms: Rush Coil which gives Mega Man an extra boost in jumping, Rush Marine where you control Rush and shoot underwater enemies, and Rush Jet which lets Mega Man cross large gaps and fly above enemies. By this game the controls have been improved so now they don’t feel slippery and Rock can climb ladders faster now making the few vertical sections this game has go by a bit quicker. The E-Tanks make a return, but now you can hold up to nine rather than four. The password system has been changed too so now you have both red and blue dots. Along with the eight Robot Masters you’ll have to fight Break Man, a mysterious robot who battles Mega Man four times in the game, and eight Doc Robots who mimic the attacks of the Robot Masters from Mega Man 2. You battle Break Man in Shadow, Hard, Magnet, and then in a stage just before Wily Tower. The Master weapons in 3 are rather unique. Magnet Man’s weapon homes in on enemies, Gemini Man’s weapon can bounce off walls several times, and Top Man’s makes Mega Man spin into enemies. Speaking of Top Man’sTop Spin, the weapon isn’t as bad as people say it is. I found it helpful in killing some enemies and it kills all of the bosses in Wily Tower except for Yellow Devil Mk-II. Getting back to the Doc Robots, they appear in four different stages with two in each stage: Gemini, Shadow, Spark, and Needle. While they mimic the attacks of the Mega Man 2 Robot Masters, since they’re bigger it’s harder to dodge them.
Unfortunately their isn’t an intro like 2, it just goes to the title screen like 1 although this is likely due to the games rushed development. Other things I noticed about 3 is that there are two Robot Master Weakness chains. Top Man is weak to Hard Man, Hard Man is weak to Magnet Man, Magnet Man is weak to Spark Man and Shadow Man, and Shadow Man is weak to Top Man. That leaves three Robot Masters: Snake Man is weak to Needle Man, Needle Man is weak to Gemini Man, and Gemini Man is weak to Snake Man.

Random Story I Wrote: Chapter One - Catching the Bus
Megaman is standing at the front door to Dr. Light's Lab. He has a backpack on, and is visibly upset.
Megaman: Okay, so why do I have to do this again?
Dr. Light: It's an experiment to see how well your AI will integrate with normal teenagers. You are fifteen, after all...
Megaman: I gotta go in as a freshman?! Aw, crap...
Light: Just go with it, Rock. You'll have fun, I promise.
Megaman: I can't even drive there?
Light: It wouldn't be consistent with the role you're trying to play. The bus is your only way to school.
Megaman: Yeah, I guess you're right.
Light: I can drive you...
Megaman: It's okay. You don't have to do that, Doc. You'd probably just end up embarassing me, anyway.
Light: I loved high school, myself.
Megaman: Yeah, I still can't believe you had that beard back then, Doc.
(Shows yearbook pic of Doc)
Light: Heh...I used to sneak food into class with this thing. (Feels at his chin hair again.) Hey, lookee here! (He pulls out a wad of some grey, nondescript meatlike substance. It smells a bit like hardboiled eggs.) It's some of my old cafeteria's salisbury steak! (He sniffs it, gagging slightly.) I think I'll get Roll to dispose of this...you should go ahead, Rock, or you'll miss your bus...
Megaman: Right.
>
At the bus stop, he sees Zero standing there, dressed in plain clothes, trying as best he can to get his huge blonde locks into some semblance of kemptness. X is sitting on the bench nearby, dressed simlilarly, and coughing, it seems.) Hey...Zero? What are you doing here at the bus stop? And a hundred years in the past, for that matter?
Zero : Ah, the writer wanted to put us both in here 'cause he likes us...something about omnipotence over whatever happens to us in his stories or something...some kind of union thing, I guess...
Megaman: Right. Anyway...having a bad hair day?
Zero : (glares) Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep this mane smooth and flowin'? If I were workin' today, I'd just call in sick or something...I'm just not me without my cool hair...
Megaman: (sighs) Anyway...X, you okay? That cough sounds pretty bad.
X: (still coughing violently) Hey...*cough*...hey Rock...*cough*...
Megaman: What the heck's the matter? You got a weird computer-virus stomach flu or somethin'?
X: My...*cough*...my voice...
Megaman: Your voice?
X: Yeah...It's been acting up again...
Megaman: Hey, it'll be okay. High-schoolers half-expect freshmen to still have their squeaky voices, anyway.
Xloudly, shrieking) I DO NOT HAVE A SQUEAKY VOICE!!!!!!
MegamanEyes are wide after X finishes. A window nearby is broken, and Tango now lies dead on the sidewalk) O' course not, X...they all make fun of you for no reason...
X: You're doing it again!
Zero : Shut up over there for a minute, will ya? I can't hear myself think over your blabbing! Why don't you take a few shots of WD-40 for that voice of yours, X? Geeez...
X is infuriated and rushes over, clawing at Zero.Thankfully, Megaman holds him back from the neck of the turtleneck X is wearing. Throwing X finally back onto the bench, Megaman uses Time-Stopper to freeze X in place.
Megaman: Time-Stopper!!
Zero : Funny...I thought you lost all your special weapons after each game. What gives?
Megaman: Ah well, the writer needed some quick way to keep X out of the conversation for awhile. That was the best he could do.
Zero : Oh. Well, anyway, the bus ought to be here any minute... Oh, Lord, does my hair look okay?
Megaman just stares.
Megaman: And you WONDER why people think you and X are gay...
Zero : Alia, I am SO going to kill you for using up all of my quadruple-strength hair gel...
Megaman: Shut up and act natural. Here comes our ticket to a day of hell.
The bus pulls up. Megaman steps on board. Zero follows him closely.
Driver: You gentlemen got fare?
Zero : Great. Exact change, I suppose?
Driver: Yep.
Zero (sighs): Perfect. (Digs in his pockets.) I've got a five-dollar bill, a battery, and a wad of lint. Will that do?
Driver: Where you boys goin'?
Megaman: Ryutaro's High School, ma'am. Other side of town.
Driver: Well, this ain't exact change to get there, but...I'll be willing to let it slide if Red Boy here gives me a smoochie...
Megaman: It can't be worse than having to walk, I guess. Go ahead, Zero. We've got no other way of getting across town.
Zero : Ever heard of a taxi, genius?
Megaman: They're all down this week. Something about Wily's robots having a field day with them all downtown. I should probably be checking that out, but...I guess this is more important to the Doc.
Zero : How 'bout teleportation?
Megaman: We can only go places where we've already been...and I haven't been to the high school, and I'm pretty sure you haven't...
Zero : (grumble)
Driver: So what's it gonna be, boys?
Zero : Um, Rock, can I see you...over HERE...just a second?
Megaman walks over. Zero chokes him around the neck.
Now THIS is for your bright ideas! I AM NOT kissing that woman! She's absolutely hideous! She looks like she could be Frankenstein's grandmother!
Driver: Well?
Megaman: I...have a plan.
Zero : Huh?
Megaman: I know how we can get this bus.
Megaman whispers to Zero. Moments later...
Zero : All right, Ms. Driver. Here. (He stands up, walks up to the driver's seat. Sighs loudly and crosses himself.) Kiss your red boy.
Driver(lunges forward): Hot dang!! I got me a man!
Zero dodges her and pulls the door handle quickly. She falls out of her seat and through the open doors, then continues tumbling out. She rolls until she hits the bench that Megaman froze X on.
Zero : Yee-hah! (Shuts the doors.) We got us a bus!
He drives off, squealing the bus tires.
Time-Stopper finally wears off of X.
Driver: Yahoo! C'mere, handsome!
X: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAIGH!!!!!!!!!!!! (Runs away, the driver chasing him off.)
End Chapter 1.

Tips: You can get Rush Jet and Marine with out destroying the required Robot Masters by having Spark Man's weapon and finding a weapon refill capsule. Open your weapon select screen, if you want Rush Marine go Spark Shooter, or if you want Rush Jet point to Shadow Blade. Press right on the D-Pad and Rush will appear, then press A or START to select it. Pick up the energy capsule.

If you want Rush Jet to last longer keep pressing A while riding the jet.

You can become invinsible by holding up and A on controller 2 when you exit the weapons screen.

During the ending of Mega Man 3 if you hold up and A on controller 2 you can listen to the rest of the ending theme that would normally be cut out.

Jump into a pit while holding right on controller 2 then jump out when you hear the death noise to control a zombie Mega Man.
In his zombie state you can't use your Mega Buster. Although Master Weapons and Rush are still usable.

By holding right on controller 2 Mega Man will preform a mega jump.

While holding up on controller 2 will slow the game down.By using the mega jump in Gemini Man's stage just before the screen where you meet Proto Man you will fall through the cylinder thing and end up in a goofified version of Gemini Man's level.
OverAll: I found Mega Man 3 to be about as good as 2, perhaps a tiny bit better. With improved controls, excellent music and graphics, good difficulty, I would highly recommend this game.
