This kind of competition is really simple and not very complicated. The most that is complicated about this game is earning your points and landing in the right places at the right times and using the right buttons to do what you need to do to get a bigger better score. If you're doing a speed run to see how far you can get then you won't get many points. If you're doing a points run then you're going to need to do a lot of repetition in order to rake in some good points. On top of the scores for this I think that you earn more points for
stomping enemies in the second level but I am not sure and I have not
really paid any attention to it so far.

Here's how the scoring falls:
Banana = 1 Point
Banana Bunch = 10 Points
Stomp on Enemy = 10 Points
Broken Barrel = 10 Points
Special Barrel = 10 Points
Red Balloon = 10 Points
Green Balloon = 50
Blue Balloon = 100
Finish Level = 250

There are a few main principles to the repetition of playing this competition for points. 1. The most possible points you can earn is in the first level. 2. You need to take Rambi to the end 3. You can't stop moving 4. Diddy is faster and lighter than Donkey Kong. The reason for these is to help you understand that these are the variables that are set in stone when you play. You can not change these 4 principles. As far as I know, there aren't 2 Blue Balloons sitting somewhere in level 2, that's 200 easy points right there. That alone is the equivalent to finishing a level so there's no real need to move on to the next level.

There's no way to say for certain that there is 1 ultimate method to earn the most points but what I do know is that it boils down to speed, timing and patience. You're not going to earn the most points on your first try. On top of that you're not only competing against the clock but if you're like me you're competing against the lag of the Mednafen recording program that spikes at the worst moments. You have to get used to the lag and the timing of your jumps when it does lag so that you aren't set back.

Tricks:
1. Use Diddy. His overall speed is faster and he's lighter. When he's on Rambi, Rambi can jump further.

2. Roll when you can. To me rolling seems to increase your speed and make you momentarily faster. The more enemies you roll into the further you will roll. Also, all treetops you should roll off of.

3. Don't focus on the small gains. Yes, 10 points helps but if it costs you 3/4 of a second every time you break a barrel and you do that 20 times that's 200 points you earned but it costs you 15 seconds and in those 15 seconds that could mean being able to grab the 2 balloons at the end of the level plus whatever extra time you have for other point gains like reaching the exit or making another 500 point run.

4. Every second counts. If you're nearing the end and you know that you keep reaching the end at 3:00 minutes left, push yourself to get there with 3:01 on your clock. On top of that, if the way you're playing isn't fast enough, experiment with another path to the end.

5. At the end of the level atop the exit, you need to take Rambi and jump off of him when you're at your highest point. This will let you on to a trampoline and if you bounce off of it you will reach a cannon that shoots you into 2 blue balloons worth 100 each.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, problems, issues, suggestions or anything at all, please feel free to message me on this topic or in private message and I will get back to you. I hope this might help some of you (Crazy enough to read a tiny game guide for a competition).

This is a very throughout, detailed walkthorugh, I think this is one of the first I have read from you and I like the way you present and display your information. I think that you did a great job with this. I know that this will help a lot of people get through the game and understand it easier. You have inspired me to make my walkthroughs lengthier and also to make more of them. So overall, great job, keep it up and keep making more helpful walkthroughs because you are good at it! This is very useful and very detailed in the explanations!

PixelBrick : There are a few things you need to do...

1. When you go to play the game click on the "Compete for Highscore" button found above the high scores.

2. When the game loads up you will need to press F8 to begin recording. This will prompt you to select a location to save the video on your computer.

3. At the end of your 5 minute run you will need to press f6 to create a screenshot.

4. Go to the highscores and choose "Submit Highscore".

5. Download Freemake and convert the file of your video to AVI which is smaller than the VLA? file.

6. After you've converted your video you will need to choose "Click to Upload Video to Vizzed Youtube".

7. Upload your video to the Vizzed Youtube

There should also be instructions on 7 that will also link you to the Freemake download. You can also find it while running Mednafen, which is the emulator you use when you compete for high score.

If you ask me, the orignal DKC is one of the best SNES games of all time. The gameplay is great, and the music is amazing. They should make a CD of it.

Now that there's a graph of how to score the best high score, it might help on the high score version of the game. If only the competition in the game was still going.

Nice breakdown of the point system. I use to do similar things to encourage member participation. Nothing really much to add except you kind of have to jump out of a roll to avoid this little stutter step.
