What is back seat modding? Is it when you summon a local mod to a thread because it is a dupe or if it is spammy? I don't know what exactly what it is.

Barathemos : I think if I remember, back-seat modding is where you keep telling a mod what to do, mostly something like that.

Barathemos : Well, actually it is when a user who is not a mod is doing a mod's job. Like if a normal, trusted, or elite member were to act like a mod, then that is back seat modding. I'm not sure but I think this applies to site staff as well since they are not mods, I guess.

IgorBird122 :    But is it summoning a mod to a thread that is spammy or a dupe? O know what the concept of it is.

Barathemos : I don't think so. You're supposed to summon the Local Mods if you see something out of place. Backseat modding would be if you saw something out of place, and instead of summoning the local mods, started acting like one.

back seat modding is kind of hard to define. the mods never could agree where the line was.
if you summon a mod to a thread with a reason, its not really an issue. if you do that say, 6 times in a day thats starting to go too far, you could just report tge thread or user.
telling users what to do isnt appreciated by mods either.
examples I have seen would be
-a user telling someone in a thread theyd let them off this time, when that wasnt there call
-a staff member acting like a mod and pushing it in peoples faces
-a user being exceptionaly rude to someone who had simply made a mistake and then summoning the locals, telling them, do this and that as opposed to merely suggesting it.

a mods attitude to it does vary person to person though. some people dont like non mods telling users off at all or summoning them, some appreciate you trying to help. I tended not to mind up until I thought people were just trying to get more posts by doing it.

Yep, summoning us is fine, but personally when you summon us a lot and that if we think that you're doing it just for the sake of post counts, we don't appreciate it. If you really went overboard, we also send out warnings or even bans for worst case scenarios. There are these little report buttons inside a thread, use it~

But- we need to post before closing a thread!! (except in Newbie Forum when closing very old then bumped threads)

Anyways,
