Sonic After the Sequel is a Fan-made Sonic Game by Lake Feperd and friends and is a Sequel to "Sonic Before the Sequel" and Sonic 2. When I saw the page on Sonic Retro, I thought it said Sonic After the Sequel was a sequel to Sonic Before the sequel, so being placed before Sonic 2 still. Apparently this is not the case and I feel really dumb for thinking that. It was released on June 15, 2013, after many months of waiting. Well, I'm terrible at making introductions, so lets just get to checking this out.
Graphics- 7/10 SAtS has a gorgeous appearance for a Fan-game. Sonic and Tails (and Mighty) have new sprites and animations, Badniks are completely new and different (except one badnik looks like the Rhinos from Sonic 3 with bumpers put on its front and back...), and I just love the settings from a hi-tech city to a underground cavern filled with Lava.
Sound- 10/10 I think Feperd and his friends made the soundtrack a top priority, and I love it. I'd probably put it up to being one of my favorite Sonic Soundtracks next to Sonic Colors and Sonic CD. Sonic After the Sequel's Soundtrack has tons of Techno, Disco, Rock, and more (It also has a bit of Dubstep, I think...). It also has a few remixes of past Sonic games, even '06 gets some love. While I haven't heard Sonic Before the Sequel's soundtrack (Except a use of the Rotatatron boss from Sonic Colors), It must be great being written by the same guys. Now that I have, the cut scene music sound like it was taken out of a SNES game, and some tracks are just put in like it is (hidden palace, the Rotatatron boss, the sonic 3D Blast special stage (genesis version), and others). The other part of the soundtrack are still pretty good.
Addictiveness- 5/10 After I finished the game, I didn't really want to replay it again, just get the official soundtrack... Well, that's just me.There are two modes: Story mode( guaranteed Good ending; no special stages) and Classic mode( need 7 chaos emeralds to get good ending), so if you finish one you can do the other, there are special act rings for different Zones hidden in the levels which unlock bonus levels, and you can play as Tails. Other than that, there isn't too much to do after you beat the game.
Story I don't think there is that much story in this game (just like the classic games), just defeat Eggman.
Difficulty- 4/10 In my opinion, the stages aren't hard, just some special stages (I'm lookin' at you, special stage 4). The special stages are kind of a 2-D version of the Sonic Heroes Special Stages; you gotta catch the chaos emerald before it gets to the end of the stage. But you have to hit the red springs that boost you and not hit the green bumpers. It's just really hard to dodge the green blobs going so fast, so you slow down, and you won't catch the emerald. It Special stage 4's case, If you don't keep the emerald on screen, you're gonna FAIL. While you don't need the Chaos Emeralds because of Story mode, where you automatically get the good ending, its just if you don't you can't be super sonic in the stages, not like you need it, because the Stages are really easy; there aren't any bottomless pits, there is a bunch of rings everywhere, the stages are not very long, and if you get a game over, you start at the beginning of the stage with 3 lives. The game is easy, but I wouldn't say it's as easy as Sonic CD.
Overall Sonic After the Sequel is an improvement over Sonic Before the Sequel. The level design is much better, looks more appealing, but is easier. If you liked Sonic Before the Sequel, classic sonic games, or how Sonic Heroes looked, play this game, And keep an eye out for Sonic Chrono Adventure!
