“Hey Kid give your Lunch money and you won’t get hurt.” Ever heard this
in your life time so far? This is or perhaps was the common method of
bullying primarily used on the school ground but it has to be a
misconception if one were to believe all bullying had started out on the
school ground. Bullying it has been around quiet possibly ever since
the dawning of man which can date back all the way to the Pleistocene
time of caveman/Neanderthals where strength and intimidation would be
used to for the primary focus to obtain another tribe or group of
cavemen of their hunt. Yet no one can be sure of the actually time and
age that bullying had started because the way of being bullied has
changed with the passage of time but however long ago it began it still
persists to this very day and age.

Now bullying has
surely/absolutely has been around much longer than I have and the proof
to my saying is very easy to show through simple searches for out there
are many or rather countless cases of people being bullied, experiencing
bullying, or having witnessed bullying such as one person’s experience
they had shared which helped to form a DVD called The Bully Project this
person was Alex {who had his last name hidden for matters of personal
security} shared this bit of personal experience as he quoted, "They
punch me in the jaw, strangle me, they knock things out of my hand, take
things from me, sit on me. They push me so far that I want to become
the bully." What he had shared with them shows one of the larger effects
of bullying where the person gets bullied so much that they themselves
want to become bullies which of course is not the right way to deal with
the issue. Upon their site they include another example of physical
bullying where others afraid of being bullied join the bully in their
bullying upon a miss Ja’meya, “It feels like everybody just turned
against me. It was like nine of them, nine or ten of them, calling me
stupid and dumb, and they started throwing things at me, and one of the
guys said something to me, and he threatened me, telling me what he was
going to do to me, and he’ll fight girls, and everybody was laughing."
She had experienced what some call pressure where others go to the side
that won’t be picked on resulting in more people becoming bullies. There
are 4 forms of bullying used to this day which are known as Verbal,
Social, Physical, and the latest in our time of modern technology…
Cyber.

It’s time for a breakdown on the styles of bullying and
the place we shall start is Verbal. Verbal bullying is the most common
form of bullying used it simply consists of the use of name calling such
as the classic bullying term used, “You are stupid.” Yet if you look at
it the term stupid is becoming so broad in terms that it’s lost great
impact of use by bullies to pick upon their victim which leads into the
other form of verbal bullying which strikes how the bullies victim looks
like through teasing such as if the victim is always know for wearing
the same jacket even if it’s getting old and looking like it’s nothing
more than say… garbage. The bully will pick up on that and uses its
appearance in a way to relate back to their victim like perhaps through
saying something like… “The only thing I’ve ever seen uglier than that
old jacket you wear is your face loser.” Verbal bullying its pain
through words but some can avoid being the victims of such bullying if
they remind themselves of that classic little saying, “Sticks and Stones
may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Even through the
term is more on the physical level where as some people can suffer from a
deal of emotional damage if verbally bullied enough in their life.

The next rather common form of bullying to discuss is the Social
bullying. This style is more commonly used by ‘clicks/groups’ that form
on school grounds where a number of people with some similar aspect like
playing on a sports team for example will purposely avoid other, spread
rumors around the people they all like to pick on to see them react
negatively to the lies they spread, or even go as far as to make two
friends turn upon each other destroying their friendship the one thing
that two people can both share and treasure. Social bullying in some
opinions is also known as group bullying where the bully focus is upon a
group of people rather than a single individual but not even the
members with a social bully group are safe themselves because a reason
for why these individuals come together as a group usually share the
reason that they were also bullied on and couldn’t stand it any longer
so used the power in numbers to band themselves together to become the
bully rather than being the bullied.

Now to get into what is
described as the more destructive form of bullying which is Physical
bullying the most direct form used throughout the history of the world.
Its name describes exactly what is used as the bully will inflict
physical damage on  their victim to get what they want. Kids getting
beaten up because they had something the bully saw of value such as new
shoes or some kind of electronic like video game handheld systems or
music players to the rather cheaper of things like school supplies. Now
where as this can be the easiest form of bullying to report on to an
official it is also the most hard one to report because by getting
beaten by the bully the victim is hit by a sense of fear which some
believe to be if they tell someone then they’ll once again be beaten up
so they keep quiet but are not actually safe from receiving the same
bullying style again the next day. Although this type is the more
physical version of bullying it can also have a psychological effect on
the victim if as they are being beaten the bully repeatedly calls them a
name which if repeated long enough can result in a trigger word that
when the victim hears causes them to go into a broken like state where
it is much easier to harm them.

Now to cover the last form of
bullying which is more commonly used today in the world, Cyber bullying.
Now a day in our present life time everyone either carries around a
cell phone or has access to a computer in their house and many victims of
bullying have retreated to the Internet as what they believed to be a
bully free area but as we have come to know, “Nowhere is safe, Not even
the Internet.” At first the victims of bullying could roam the Internet
even join online forms to chat with people and feels safe but what they
were unaware of was the Internet was like a ocean so vast you could
never see the hidden dangers until it was too late… One day a person
would onto a forum site they have been a part of for a while helping
them completely forget they were ever a victim of bullying but then they
find it… An unmarked message left to them from another user of the
forum they both use, they are curious so they open it but then regret
it, in the message they would find a large paragraph that describes what
the sender saw as the annoying things they do, the desperation they
show on  the forum to talk to others, and the lack of confidence they
have. But this bullying isn’t only on the computer in forums but can
appear in the victims Email if they give it out to easily or even on
their cell phone. Cyber bullying through text messages are the hardest
themselves to avoid because when the text is received all we get
initially is either an unknown number or name of someone that is
registered in the phones address book… We don’t know that the message
contains names we the message sender is calling the phone owner until
they check it. Cyber bullying is one of the worst because it can be the
most indirect or misleading because the messages will likely be sent
un-named so the victim is more curious toward the message so they become
far more likely to open it.

All four of these bullying forms
have their effects and while those may differ they also all relate to
causing a deal of emotional distress to the victim which can have some
of the worst effects such as suicidal behavior and tendency of
self-harm.  According to finding reported by people of Yale university,
‘Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide
than non-victims.’ The are even more facts on the matter which can be
read on Bullyingstatics.org which include these stats directly related
to bullying and suicide… ‘Suicide is the third leading cause of death
among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according
to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100
suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have
considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.’ This one
fact alone shows how big suicide is by giving an estimated number,
likely person to out of a certain group, percentage of high school
students who have considered or even attempted it. They also have a fact
that states a study in Britain had revealed that at least half of all
young people’s reason for suicide was because of bullying. Now while
these might contain interesting facts there are still many more out
their including stories that have either come the friend of someone who
committed suicide or from someone who tried to commit it but failed to
go through with it.

We have to step up! How is it that all this
time we’ve been standing back on the sidelines as innocent, weak,
fragile, and different people are being bullied… Oh right the reason is
because WE are acting like chickens because we are afraid of being
bullied ourselves. Well here’s a start fact… “I have been bullied
before. I have gone through each of those forms of bullying so I know
how it feels, I known what it sounds like, I know how it is read, and I
even know how it feels to be near suicide because of it. BUT! Hey guess
what I’m still here and I’m going to do my part to help!” What is it we
can do, is what I bet you’re thinking right now and if it’s not then
tell me… Why are you reading this? If you can’t answer that question
then just put this paper down and walk away but if you can answer that
question then here is what we can do. Stand up! If you stand up for
someone you can make the bully lose his intimidation on them and the
more that stand up to the bully, the more the bully will back down and
stop. Speak out. If you see someone being bullied doesn’t just stand
around there and do nothing go look for an adult or someone with
authority who can step in and help, but if the person you try asking for
help doesn’t then go try another because we need to speak out and tell
someone to stop the bullying. Make a difference. If you can stand up and
make the attempt of change then others will surely follow your example
and join you in bringing an end to bullying once and for all.

Now in conclusion I’ve described a great deal on bullying even including
one of the commonly used means of escaping from it which is a choice
that no one deserves to make in their life. Those types of bullying
ranging from the use of words to physical action all way their toll on
us and we must step up to make a change to stop these individuals and
groups that go out of their way to belittle or exclude others or target
the simple to break ones.

{This was the report I had done for the assignment and can you believe I basically pieced together this whole thing in under an hour? X3 It was admit-ably by other students in my class (before having graduated from school) one of the best assignments turned in even though for a visual all I did was put the word Bullying in Large bold letters with a Red circle and cross mark over the word.}

I think the report is really good, the visual you did wasn't visually impressive but it had meaning behind it, it was saying bullying is a major issue and you know what we are going to say no, we aren't going to find out why it is happening or what the bully is going through we are just going to stop it. It could also be perceived as something a victim would do, a desperate plea for their daily torture to end. The opening paragraph posed some questions which make the reader/ listener wonder as to the answer, the fact that you placed this at the beginning more or less forces the reader/ listener to give you their attention to find the answers. I also think it you done well pointing out the four kinds of bullying and explaining them in depth, as well as pointing out the effects they have and how all of them can be equally harmful. If I was going to be extremely picky you could have asked two mates (one guy one girl) to look really sad holding the paper with your visual on it, the two pictures would carry the message better than the paper on its own but that is me been very picky.
