Remember that electric type magnemite that you had for quite a long time, well surprise, surprise, now it's an electric- STEEL type. wha- what? What just happened? Yeah, I think you get what I mean. Whenever Nintendo introduces a new type, they like to those types to already existing Pokémon. What I'm going to do is put a logical reason as to why this happens. Well Pokémon fans here is why...

As every Pokémon roams, the mighty Arceus watches them, thinking. And of course he is thinking of new types to bring into the Pokémon world. With it's many tablets surrounding him there is a type. Of course there are 17 tablets in all so arceus has not brought all of the types yet. And in each generation he brings more types and even creates more types to bring out on a later time.

Um as for now the magnemite family is the only Pokémon so far to have gained a type. Which if you know what you are doing can do some hilarity using Pokémon Stadium. Now there is speculation that Nintendo might add a ":fairy type" but I feel like that would feel out of place in Pokémon as all types so far are based off an element and fairy isn't an element.

and Nintendo has only introduce types twice back in generation 1 (obviously) and Generation two.
