So, what does everyone think should be done about North Korea? Now they say they want to wipe the U.S. and many of its allies off the map.

Ziggy: but the real question is can they actually do it... I mean sure they tested a small nuke recently but that still doesn't make them much of a threat to the US. They're too far away. A successful attack of that kind is not something they are capable of.

was that a little better?

They have what, a couple billion dollars in the whole country? We should just get their allies (like China) to secretly stop helping them. We have to do it both secretly and quietly...

Seriously, if they want to start a war and wipe us off the map, let's just nuke them we really can't afford another war...

And Geo... this news article says it wasn't a small nuke, said it was just as powerful as Hiroshima.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/may/25/north-korea-hiroshima-nuclear-test

They said they are going to nuke us and what do we do? NOTHING! This is what sucks about USA we will wait for them to kill off our cities before we do anything about it.

well, compared to today's nukes that is a small one

and yeah, especially with "I don't want to meddle" Obama running the show.... get a back bone already!

the world is going to screw you over if you don't start acting like a leader soon

Regardless of the nuke's size, it's still a nuke. My hometown could be among the many west coast targets. I hope not, but it's still nightmarish...

North Korea does care about the future of their people, whether this is apparent or not. They wont go into a suicidal war without provocation. Unless of course, they are so isolated, they actually think they can win.

I hope Obama gets his act together and launches a campaign against N. Korea. The collateral damage to S. Korea will be considerable, but if we don't hit them now, countless lives could be lost.

If we attack before they have the ability to launch long distant nukes, it will eliminate the need to use nukes ourselfs. So, we could even save many innocent N. Koreans.

It's kinda like the rules of engagement...

U.S. Military ROE:
Level 5: Assaultive (Lethal Force). The subject usually has a weapon and will either kill or injure someone if he/she is not stopped immediately and brought under control. The subject must be controlled by the use of deadly force with or without a firearm or weapon.

Something to think about.

A possible solution would be for a North Korean citizen to be set up to kill Kim Jong-il without any other government discovering the country responsible. His son (his successor) probably isn't half as insane as he is. I don't think we can start a war yet, especially since KJi would recklessly nuke South Korea or Japan if we attacked, regardless of the radiation spread. He probably has a nice comfortable bunker anyway...

Though the U.S. is far out of range, innocent people are not.

I heard his son is pretty ruthless too. Not sure how bad he is but I think he's already being trained to be the next leader.... sure he might have more compassion in his youth... but he might also be much less thoughtful or patient.

Aethelwulf.... my point was this... small nuke, not likely to do as much damage, but also, having a nuke that is testable is not the same has having ballistic missiles that can actually launch all the way across the ocean. That is going to be a lot tougher to accomplish. I agree that it's not a good thing that they have nukes but so do several other countries like Pakistan or India, or China I think.... there are quite a few nukes spread throughout the old Soviet Union that aren't accounted for.... so I think a couple crappy nukes in NK aren't worth getting too worried about

The US has put up quite a bit of military action on Hawaii (Where the nuke is supposed to hit around July 4th). It's improbable that the nuke will hit Hawaii. The nuclear bomb can only travel 4,000 miles away from its starting point -- Hawaii is 4,500 miles away.

It seems like North Korea is rather butt hurt right now because most of the United Nations is on their back about nuclear weapons.

yeah, although I remember hearing a leader of either Iran or North Korea say how hypocritical it is of the US and other Nato countries (or UN countries) that have nukes to come down so hard on other countries that are trying to aquire nukes. Which is fair in a way but I also think we're all smart enough to realize that once these countries get nukes they are going to use them... unlike the nukes that we have now.... they aren't going to get used.... they just keep the superpowers of the world at peace.

But most of these countries are stable/need nukes to be stable (India and Pakistan). Well, stable enough to not use them
