I'm not fighting a losing war. You are. This will never be added (except for reviews which has been discussed already) if we lose each thread with less than 50 words vizzed would lose users and activity, then David wouldn't be able to keep add up, then David wouldn't get any money to feed his family and keep vizzed up. Do you want someone to starve for some good posts?

I never said that all threads should be more than 50 words. You should set an example by making ALL of your posts have 50 plus words.

Now you want polls to not have a word limit. Do you realize how much coding would have to be put into this? It would take a few days to do this. There are other more important things than this.

I think the word limit on reviews should be higher than 100 though, maybe 250 or 500. You can't properly review a game in less than 500 words.

I think 50 is a good amount for new threads too.

Ok ok, guys, let's calm down here. Man, you would expect this from the debate forum...

SacraRain : Just to let you know, if you are only talking about starting threads with a requirement size, then your title and your poll would be misleading because you wrote should we increase the "post requirement size", not "starting thread requirement size". You should try to change that so that you can make it clear.

However, it is not practical to make a starting thread requirement size because not all threads necessarily need to have that much to write in their thread. Some could be simple questions, like questions from this sub forum. They don't have to be 50 words or more to get their point across, so to ask for a universal requirement size for starting a thread would not make sense. (and to all those who say we should put a limit on starting post size, you might be shooting yourself in the leg if this is implemented, since you will find yourself to force yourself to post spamish threads just to hit that limit)

Furthermore, I believe that you need to let newbies make some mistakes in the forum if they don't know about rules, that way we as members can make it known to them there. I think mods and staff do a good job in making sure some threads are not spammy for writing too little words. If a newbie did not pay attention to the rules, they will know sooner or later, either from staff or by members who know the rules.

But I see that most of what you are talking about is reviews. So let me just say that David is actually trying to see if he can make a script to automatically reject reviews that are less than 100 words (or whatever word limit that is being set). Furthermore, the local mods on that forum would delete or move reviews that are not reviews or are spamming. But this does not mean to demand a universal thread requirement.  

Plus, we are suppose to help these members to understand there is an expectation for reviews. The key word is "professional" in the review section and there are some threads that are above 100 words, but are not professional at all. And we need to tell them that in a kind but truthful way. This is not an attack on you whatsoever, but I think you can be a little soft when you comment on people's reviews, and that doesn't motivate them to get better when you just tell them that they did good for putting effort. You need to give them some advice in how to get better. For example, I just finished commenting and rating a review that I just read. You happen to comment on that thread first, but all you said was that you can't really judge reviews anymore and that you give him an A for effort. That doesn't help him to make better reviews. Yes, the review met the word requirement, but the thread itself was not a review. In fact, if you read it closely, it is actually borderline plagiarism, which is against the rules for reviews. Also, he didn't make a review at all, but made unsupported opinions. So what I did was to give him some pointers on how to get better in making good, original reviews next time. We as members and up have a responsibility to make sure the newbies and relatively new members can understand what should or should not be done on the site.

SacraRain : I know this is a common problem,but its already dealt with You shouldn't really budge with the review requirement suceeding. We just need more People to check out Play4funs thread. perhaps If play4funs advice on reviewing would get more attention Reviews would be better. I 100 percent get what you're going at. But Yea reviewers You should be more nicer and respectful to newbies. As for long threads. It's pointless to have such long threads Man. I understand you wanna help post out,but Post are post its not mean't to be fancy long and other stuff, Just well pointed out and it should be straight to you're point. And once again I know where this is going at. And you're mainly targetting this at game reviews. You should really consider giving out advice to newbies and users instead of being so harsh man. I didn't say ALL threads or all posts, most posts are commonly short... this is not a problem, but when you start some random a** thread in some random a** forum with only this in it:

"Hey, I'm new here and I wanted this to be my first thread"

And the person didn't even put it in the INTRODUCTIONS part of the forum, but instead put it in the "GENERAL" thread... it's kind of like "uhm, do you not see the area that says "introductions"?"

Like seriously, obviously your brain can't handle this... since you're becoming annoyed with what I have to say and you're not even trying to make sense of what I have to say... so I'll make it in "kid" terms for you, okay little man?



1: Posts don't have to be any specific length, nor does MOST threads... but if the thread is a game review or something similar, then it should be at least 50 words.

Cause come on, if you post something about a game in the reviews section and all you say is "I liked this games, zombies are cool"... then it's pretty much spam in a sense. Cause then heck, why don't all of us just post that we liked the game and nothing else?


2: Not all threads have to be 50 words or more, heck, they don't even have to be 20 words... but if it's some kind of "serious" thread, then you should actually put some effort into it... otherwise typing up "so, there was a tornado today... anyone else heard about it?" kind of makes you look like a complete moron for asking a stupid question.

I mean seriously, this is the internet... every time something new happens that the world must know about, it spreads all over the internet like a wildfire. Oklahoma Tornados all over youtube and all over google and everything else...

But then you have some newbie post something like "so, heard about those tornados in oklahoma?" and it's just like "are you kidding me... dude, check youtube man... duh"

Remember earthwarrior, not all posts have to be reasonable in my opinion... but at least make it something worth reading besides "this was a fun game".

Like come on, you posted it in reviews... so I would naturally be expecting a review, not just a quick opinion.

SacraRain : No swearing, i got banned for it also there is a local mod who is 13 or 14 so age doesn't matter  what does matter is your  ability to do your job and contribution to the site. Also this whole debate is rather pointless because ultimately the change on how long a threads title will be and how long the first post in the thread will never change and game reviews will eventually have it where 100 word reviews can't be submitted.

I really believe there is no reason to raise the post requirement size because 100 words is enough for a review and just because people are making shorter review doesn't mean there bad reviews. As long as there reviews are 100 words + there ok.
