Shining Force is a good rpg, which is slightly long.
Lets begin the review.
You are a young boy (not a girl option unfortunately) Who lives in a town.
Yep, that is all I am saying about the start.
But this game is filled with a good storyline and you get to face evil hordes when going to places.

The combat on this is very simple.
Go up to an enemy and press attack.
But the attack depends on your stats.
But it isn't only attacking.
You can have healers in your party to heal wounded team-mates if you are afraid of losing one of your party members which is temporary.
So if you had a healer, you need to be one space or infront of the team mate to heal them.
Simple?
But the bad thing is, there is no grinding in this game.
You can not fight hordes in one place more than once. (Correct me if I am wrong)

The sound is simply amazing, the battle themes are simply great and addicting.
But if you are in a battle constantly and you keep on losing.
It gets annoying.
But that does not affect the rating.

The graphics are great for it's day and age.
It is a pixel game with great combat animations.
They might not be good compared to this day and age's graphics.
But they are pure gold.

This is addicting simply because of it's story.
A NPC might die or such.
Or a climax might happen!
Nobody will know!

The depth.
The depth is simply great.
You get to recruit members optionally!
You have lots to do and only 1 chance to do some side quests!
This is why I think this game has lots to offer.
The atmosphere is simply awesome as you move to town to town.
You help your kingdom!
And you encounter new enemies and characters that will send you to another storyline!
Even other characters have storylines!
All characters are useful at all times!

I give this game a classical 10/10!
My seal of approval.
Just pure gold it can compare to pokemon.
This is a great rpg when sometimes you think about the weapons you use!
Creative character development!
This has one of the best storylines in the whole shining force series.
It links from shining force 1!
Which is a great thing!

If you are wondering if it is rubbish, it isn't.
It is worth your time!

     Well it's certainly not rubbish.

This is the game that got me into SRPG's, and I will always love it for that. I've never played a Pokemon game, how does it compare?!

Also the spell "Egress" takes you out of battle and to where you last saved. You can repeat battles as long as you never finished and moved on. (basically kill everything but one enemy, egress, go back to fight again)

I absolutely loved Shining Force, but have yet to play Shining Force II. I don't know why. I really need to do that. By the looks of it, if I loved the first one, I will probably love this one too.

rcarter2 : By all means do. They are all good (that I have played) but I personal favourite is SFCD on the Sega CD.

GamingMonkey : This was a pretty good review. I do think you missed things out; the story is not actually referenced once. Your combat paragraph was great though.

Dragoon26:
I say it compares to pokemon by addictiveness.
Well this is my opinion.
And this was supposed to tell people it is an actually good game.
