This is a great mario kart game. I prefer it to mario kart 64 simply because in mario kart 64 it seems your always skidding and never really have any traction. That kills it. In this game however you do have traction and you can focus more on the driving without skidding everywhere. So here is my review.
GRAPHICS: 10/10
I give graphics a 10 out of 10 because they are really actually pretty good for the era of time it was made in. You can see where your going, you can see your kart and character clearly, and the your kart moves pretty smoothly. It's not all jerky like some of the other racing games of that time. So you can't really rate it down here.
SOUND: 10/10
I give sound 9 out of 10 because the music is very enjoyable and really, this game doesn't deserve to be marked down here. Classic mario kart music really puts me in the mood.The player makes sounds when you use a power. Bowser roars, DK bellows and so on. So good music and good player sounds.
ADDICTIVENESS: 8/10
This game was really good. I was hooked playing this game for a good long while. I was like screw pokemon, i'm gonna play Mario Kart! That doesn't happen often so that is a good sign for this game. But this game can get REALLY frustrating on such maps as ghost valley. That is my number 1 most hated map of any mario kart game. I always fell off almost every side possible.
STORY: 1/10
There is really no story at all. You can only chose between mario, peach, bowser, koopa troopa, luigi, yoshi, donkey kong, and toad to race with. The rest you don't pick will be your opponents. All you really do is try to beat them in a race, no story.
DEPTH: 3/10
Since there is no story there really isn't much depth. As i said you really only pick your character and race the rest on maps. You can either spend a lot of play time on this game or very little. There's no really beating the game. It's just racing classic Nintendo characters.
DIFFICULTY 9/10
This game is really hard. Some maps, like ghost valley, will drive you insane with hate and anger when you fall off the side. The AI is pretty crazy as well. Pretty much mario always gets first if you don't beat him. Followed by luigi, peach yoshi and so on. The hard part is if you place less then 4th you get ranked out and you have to start the whole circuit over again.
OVERALL: 8/10
Really not a bad game. This game has it's moments. When your not furious with your loss, your rejoicing with your victory. When you actually win you feel super good about yourself. It is indeed very hard but that makes it all the better when you finally win. The controls are accurate and great. This is a good game and i recommend it to and mario kart fan. If you enjoyed any of the other ones, you'll enjoy this one. Have Fun!!
