I'll give you all I know about the Wii U.
The system isn't really that prepared, it seems really unfinished. I was with my friend when he bought it, and when he set it up and played it. Man, it was the hardest thing to ever do, the excitement wore off really quickly.
It took the machine over 6 hours just for the thing to update. The update took up 5 gigabytes of the total 32 gigabytes of the system, whereas if it were on a 8GB system, he'd be screwed because the average game is 3-6 gigs. That was in November, I can't imagine how long or how much it would take in order for you to even make the machine started now.
The space, is a massive problem. It only has 32 gigabytes, minus 5.5, that's 27.5 gigs that you can use, even the discs for the system have more than that. It would be horrible to have more than 5-6 games, because they need more space to even run on the console.
The games are pretty great, but they don't use the Wii U's power as much as you'd want. It's more powerful than the PS3, and at least 100 times more powerful than the Wii. The tablet controller doesn't work very well with a lot of these games, but I'll get to that. The Pro controller is pretty amazing, though. I loved ZombiU and New Super Mario Bros. U, and I can't wait for what's to come this year.
The tablet controller is really cool, and makes browsing the internet and typing/browsing apps so much easier, but for games, it's not really made for them. Use the Pro controller for games, if it has the option. The Tablet is awesome for playing games without a TV. The tablet is more or less a gimmick, but it's pretty cool.
I don't like the compatibility. There's a lot of problems there. It took 2 minutes to access the original Wii menu so I can play a Wii game, and more to access the Wii's Shop Channel. It actually loads the original Wii's system instead of just playing them on the Wii U like it did with Gamecube on the Wii.
The Wii U's Shop is pretty difficult to get used, to, but the tablet makes it easy to use. The selection is pretty bad though, and they promised GameCube games, but don't have any.
It's really slow, too, it takes 20 seconds, actual seconds, to get to the options. It should be a lot easier.
If you only have 353, you need to account for the warranty, because from what I hear, the system and controller are fairly flimsy, and could break. It's good to be protected from things like that, so just save up 50 more dollars if you intend on actually getting one so that if it gets broken, you can get it replaced instead of buying another one.
I'm going to get one, but I know it's flaws.
I'm somewhat neutral about the situation, but I'm leaning more towards you not getting one because of all of the problems with it, but for the games and the controller, it's pretty cool.
Do not get the basic package though, because of the gigantic updates, it will be basically unusable. I'll give you all I know about the Wii U.
