I would consider myself an atheist. If you are an atheist, what made you become an atheist? Have you ever been looked down upon by people that are in a religion. A lot of my family are pretty religious, thankfully, my family is really lax. May parents say that they are neither believe or not believe because they don't know. I probably started to become an atheist when I really got into science. The two clash against each other a lot. So what is your story? Ever been looked down on?

I consider myself to be atheist, and in some cases yes, I have had some hate thrown my way for it.
I personally have no problem with anyone or what they believe, people are free to believe in anything they want to.
But its not for me personally. My girlfriend and her whole family are extremely religious, and we all get on fine. As long as my friends and family, people I care for in general are ok with what I believe, that is all that matters to me.

Most people here are; no one believes in the Antiquity Pantheon nor the Natives' gods and beliefs.

On my side, I'm an atheist until credible evidence of the existence of the supernatural can be brought forward.

EvilAlu : I too have no problem with people of a religion. They can believe whatever they want to believe. I've actually had friends that are heavily religious and nothing was different than a normal friendship.

I am an atheist, because I don't really find any real proof of God, and I have read the bible, but there are some stuff that are impossible, like Adam and Eve, you can't start a new species with just a male and a female or else inbreeding gets in the way.
I have had hate because of it, even losing some friends when they found out I was an atheist.
I don't say god is not real, just saying not gonna believe until someone proves it to me.

I am. I was raised in a catholic household, but I found logic to be something I prefer to cling to. Not that a god of sorts is illogical, I just chose not to believe in it. I see evolution and science as the most logical explanation for this world. Though, as I have been thinking about all the stuff around this world, I find some things to be really "convenient". Like all of the symbiotic relationships and how some things literally just work on this planet. It sometimes seems weird to think that all happened naturally, and I can guess that is why some people believe in a god. I get an unreasonable amount of hate for it, being yelled at by friends parents growing up, that bible that was thrown at me (seriously, who did that?), and people telling me that I'm going straight to hell. Which if there is a god out there, I cant really blame him. I have been a little secretive about this, that's why I never really talked about religion. People stand up for Jewish people when they get made fun of, not many people vouch for the atheists though. Most of my friends are either catholic, Christian or Jewish, I appreciate them not shoving it in my face, and they appreciate my not shoving my beliefs in their face.

I said my opinions. Please don't hit me.

Christianity could be considered atheism because it took Jesus and his powers to convince them he is or was a god. The current day christians use the bible as proof which in a way makes them part atheist and jew cause they need something they can see or hear to prove existence. I think Christians tend to prove the idea that Jesus existed rather then prove God exists. Somehow they rap it up and claim he is the god which is why I can see why people don't believe it.

If you "need" something to prove existence then you really are no different then your counterparts because they too needed proof via bibles, jesus and or scripts.

I don't need bible or a photo or a scientific proof, I believe things on my own will. Now if I watch X Files and see aliens that might play an influence on my ideas but that will NOT be used as definitive proof or guide. Like I said, I don't need proof cause I just use my mind and make up whatever the hell I want to make up. If I say god is a tomato then god is a tomato.

There is no difference between Steve Jobs and Jesus Christ. It was their ideas and massive following that made them gods. If steve jobs and jesus christ had no iphones or bibles, who would care or give a crap about them right here and now? No one... but you can thank the jews for keeping it relevant while spinning a buck off it.

God does not need a product like Jesus or bible to prove himself. Only a jew would need to do such thing. The earth and life itself is enough proof, everything else is bull spun in money signs.

I myself am an Atheist.
I don't mind any religion, I just dislike those who enforce of their religious
upon other people. It seriously happens a lot.

Most the people who I know are Atheist.

I am an atheist as I have seen no reason nor proof of a god. If it gets evidented to me, I will believe it. I do however find the ideas of some gods (Anubis is a badass.) to be rather interesting. I like the stories based around gods, but the catholic/protestant/christian/etc ones I find rather uninteresting. The majority of my friends are Atheist, but there are a few who are not. Those ones are completely accepting of why I am an atheist.

I don't believe I am atheist .. I am a christian. But I don't look down on people who are atheist or don't believe what I believe because I feel like everyone should be able to choose what they believe no matter what that may be. I also have quite a few friends here on vizzed who are atheist.. they are the same as you and me and everyone else they just don't believe what you may believe.

I'm just going to keep it simple, Yes. I don't like to talk about religion because its always a touchy subject, but I don't believe in a god or an after life or any of that stuff. For me life is what it is and no more. As fare as being looked down on, yes I live in the south and its a "crazy" thing not to be a christian  but I'm more discriminated for my extreme political believes more than my religious views.

I am an atheist and i have been on since i was around 13 years old. I see no proof to believe in god because science has been proven to explain every thing about this earth and the bible was wrote by a person. I have been looked down upon by preachers and other people who
have spent a lot of time trying to convince me to believe in a religion. I think that every person is entitled to there own opinion and should not try to force their opinions like religion on somebody else. Most of my family is religious and a lot of them know that i am an atheist and are okay with it. I would not care if they was okay with it or not because i am who i am and will not change for any body.

to put it quite simply...
i don't know.

i consider the concept of all that stuff to be just that - concepts. i like to learn about religions but i do not actively participate in any of them. beliefs are really not things that should be held up and judged by others because they are personal.

i do believe tho, that i worship bacon mostly.

I'm a non believer in any religion, aka the dreaded atheist. As to what made me an atheist, I've never been a believer and never had to really think too strongly about it until I hit my teens. I went out and earnestly tried to open myself to the various spiritual paths and after a few years of giving it my all, decided that there wasn't a hole to fill, no void inside me that needed a god(s) to make me complete. To me, the world behaves as if there was no god and I've really accepted that and moved on with nothing nagging my conscience.

As for being put down, I've been cornered and harassed by a variety of people about being an atheist; some of them did not give off that vibe in the beginning either! My family is just fine with it, since I still try to lead a good life (fitting in with society and such) and actually, a lot of my morals line up with Christian ones, so it's not a big deal living in the U.S. For me. Now, if I were to move to another state, where people's cars are vandalized for putting the Darwin fish on them, I'd be even more discrete. But, all in all, most people don't care and understand finding god is a personal matter between said person and deity.

I personally am atheist.  While most of my friends are Christians, I do have some other friends that are agnostic or atheists.  While I have no problem with religion in and of itself-- it in fact adds meaning to the lives of people who have felt their lives had lost all of it-- I do have a problem with those who use the Bible (or any other religious text; Christianity is just the most common where I live) as a shield for their prejudicial beliefs.  Like for example the 'gay marriage' argument that the Bible supposedly fights against.  Well I am perfectly certain that it is all in the reading of it, for I have many friends who will tell me that it is all just an excuse, that the Bible really doesn't say that.  However, that is for another thread.  As far as hate goes, I honestly have not received too much of it; just the occasional "You're going to hell" or "How can you not believe that?  That's ridiculous!"  But I don;t take any of it to heart.  I just live and let live.

I can say that I am an atheist, mostly that I don't think one God created the whole universe, and I don't think we were formed from another animal, Not just that, but that's been the problem with some countries is because of religion.

I'm an Agnostic Theist, but often times find myself on the Atheists side in debates over religious topics.
(oh..in case anyone is confused. Us agnostic theists believe there is a deity, but that no knowledge/proof of one exists).

I have, of late, been leaning towards Agnostic Atheism.

Oh..and to the question of "why are you an atheist", there is really only one answer...because to be an atheist you must have no belief in a deity.

Keep in mind, though, that there is a distinct difference between the phrases
"I do not believe in a god"
and
"I believe there is no god"

Atheism is the former. A disbelief in a deity.

I have no problem with atheists at all but can someone answer a question from me. I never heard this on a point of an atheist but if you believe there is no god, then how where we created? Just a question, not trying to bring Christianity in this or anything.

Roccoharde : It's just all science that we refer to. It has to do with evolution from apes. If you are talking about all life and the universe, well, nobody really knows for sure although there are a lot of possible theories that make sense. Don't worry, your not lol.
