mister sandman : I can already tell you people's main issue is going to be is that video from some kind of channel, or fan made, so to speak? Because, some links from History Channel or National Geographic Channel or something like that would really help prove this guy's theory.

I saw you posted this link in response to someone else, but then I realized that you also posted it here, so I'm just going to respond here.

First of, in case you don't know, the video that you linked is an excerpt of a documentary called "Zeitgeist." It is basically a film filled with conspiracy theories that were "way out there." This same movie also talks about how 9/11 is an inside job and that the world wars were triggered due to the bankers in America. This film has been criticized for how factual any of these claims are. Basically, many scholars deemed this documentary to be unreliable and quite silly.

Second, even though these claims came from a bogus documentary, they have been brought up by another source which circulates these arguments around. These claims are also false and some of their information are contradictory with their primary sources. Some of these misconceptions are about Jesus and some of them are about the other "savior" characters. The problem is that some of these stories are not even close to matching with their original sources. Some even mistaken facts from the Christian side, for example, Jesus is not likely to be born in December. And then there are "similarities" that are quite a stretch to be calling them copies, like saying that they all have royal descent, and that they all have disciples.

To give you an example, I have a fellow Youtuber by the name of Epydemic2020 who actually talks about the claims between Horus and Jesus to see if they are actually true.

Finally, if you dig down to it, main themes of these stories are not the same. I can say the same with those that claim that creation stories are similar, but when it comes down to it, other civilizations talk about how the universe is created because of an accident or a conflict between different gods, and that the aftermath of the conflict is the creation of the universe, where as the Christian creation story talks about the world was created with a purpose and that God willed it to happen, not by accident. That is a huge difference.

This argument is not taken seriously, whether if it is among laymen or by scholars. Don't use them.

mister sandman : As someone pointed out earlier, this is part of a conspiracy theory.

Secondly, Jesus' very life was PROPHESIED before he was even born. Even the town he was born in, Bethlehem, was predicted hundreds of years before the first Christmas. The Jews had these prophecies thousands of years before Jesus and they told their children about the hope to come. When the Jews went into exile, they took their beliefs with them, and, indeed, several of their prophesies came while they were in Chaldea/Babylon or Assyria. Thus, they spread their ideas and they eventually integrated into other cultures. I am not aware of the exact dating of the exile and when this story sprang up, but if this really isn't part of a conspiracy theory, that would be my only guess as to how such a similarity came about.

Furthermore, the Jews kept themselves apart. How do you think they managed to keep themselves as a people when they didn't even have a homeland for thousands of years?  They were not one to mix with other cultures, as they viewed themselves the chosen ones of God. To say that they just randomly picked up a Horus story from the Egyptians (which they DESPISED- see Exodus for a pretty good idea of why) is to say that you have no knowledge about the Jews at all.

Also, your video claims that Horus was crucified. Care to explain HOW, when at the time the myths of Horus were written, the Romans were the ones who came up with crucifixion. It was largely unheard of or even known about in the Middle East at that time.

So... that was my reaction. That you failed to complete any research about this topic.

I talked with some rabbis who were working at Jerusalem College for Hebrew Education for about 2 years. There were guys that claimed to be the Messiah before and after Jesus. They're all included in Jewish Oral Law (Talmud). However, if you'll notice, the teachings and actions of Jesus do not resemble the other "messiah's". All of the others either wanted the abolishment of the Mosaic covenant or they wanted to have a civil war with Rome (currently being occupied). These guys didn't actually fulfill the requirements for being a Messiah. Some weren't even of the tribe of Judah.

What makes Jesus' story more credible to me is the explosion of believer within 60 years. Christians went from non-existent to, according to Tacitus, the evil doers that burned down Rome, the ones that make Rome weak, and they should all be destroyed. Seems like they became a problem to the Romans leaders very quickly. The only reason for an explosion of something so radical and instantly persecuted would be because of eyewitnesses. Making it up doesn't really get past persecution. The reason I don't trust the Mormon church is the complications at their start. There was not an explosion, but a few guys out of Illinois. Then, because of illegal activities (not a "give to Caesar" situation...) they were kicked out. Now they are larger, but there was no explosion. Their witnesses of the golden plates all denied it later at some point in their lives, on record. Cowdery is the exception, but he said he only saw those plates with his "spiritual eyes" (also on record). The people of Jesus' day, if they heard such rumors, would not have grew. There were no rumors like this; there couldn't have been, they wouldn't have reacted in the way that history shows.

I just read this entire thread and I think it's hilarious how when the Christian brigade came out in full force with their arguments, the guy trying to stir up frustration in here didn't respond, probably because he didn't have a leg to stand on. Good work on this, guys! Excellent arguments and good research on debunking that video (For instance, Horus wasn't even to have been born by a virgin, but by Isis, which further takes a huge blow to the video's credibility).

given there are so many parallels in the bible between events and scenarios in the bible, and those from thepast, its highly likey the authors of the bible plagiarised large chunks.

This little video is a historical misrepresentation of facts. If you are actually curious about these supposed historical parallels, it might be helpful to take a look at C.S. Lewis' comments on the "Corn King" phenomena in the Ancient Near East in his book on Miracles. No doubt, there are many mythological parallels in the ancient world with Jesus of Nazareth. Instead of disproving Jesus and his divinity, the argument could easily be turned that such parallels give credibility to the accounts of the New Testament. Because I'm running late for an appointment, suffice it to say that Lewis' work, though brief and dated, provides a nice hypothesis and conclusion to the (so-called) data in the video.
