Hi, there. I'm a friend of CrazyLi. I go by the handle Wry Guy. If you're wondering why, maybe it's because I'm a guy who happens to be very wry.
It's been a long time since I bothered with an online forum, but I thought it might be fun to jump into again. Way back in the day I browsed Mega Man fan forums and sprite comic sites like Bob and George, which itself was a Mega Man sprite comic. Looking back, it's an awful comic but I was like 13 when I thought it was funny. It's been a long time but I think I've known CrazyLi since about that far back when I had my own sprite comic and a forum I ran with a friend.
After I got tired of sprite comics and the like, I fell out of it for a while. Then when I worked at GameStop I joined the Destructoid forums. Destructoid is a game news blog like Kotaku and Joystiq. In terms of traffic it's one of the top 10 or so. For a while I was actually an associate editor who posted stories to the site. I also did a few podcasts with some of the staff members like Jonathan Holmes and Tony Ponce. That dried up after a while and I still go to that forum on occasion, but it's pretty inactive compared to what it used to be.
That's my forum history. Since long before I browsed the internet I've been playing games. I'm 25 turning 26 now and I've been playing games on my NES since I was in pre-school. All the big platforming characters were my favorites back in the day. Mario, Sonic, Kirby, and of course Mega Man were my bread and butter. Later on I discovered a few RPGs I enjoyed like Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG, and when the 3D age began I got myself a Sega Saturn and sampled different types of games like NiGHTS into Dreams, Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA and the like.
The point where I probably got hardcore about games is when I got a Nintendo 64 and somebody handed me games like Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Zelda Ocarina of Time, F-Zero X, Super Smash Brothers and all those other big ones. It was when I started decimating games and playing them to absolute completion.
Since then my favorite game consoles have been the Dreamcast and the DS. Those are the two gaming systems where I have literally researched, played, and owned and beaten almost any game I had any interest in whatsoever. At the very least if I haven't played a game yet, I know all about it and will get to it some day.
My big competitive specialty is fighting games. Very often 2D fighters from SNK like King of Fighters and Mark of the Wolves. Most recently I really enjoyed Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Persona 4 Arena.
Lately I'm not a huge fan of console games even though I like my PS3 and 360. None of the AAA games that get released really hold my attention because they all feel like things I've experienced countless times already, often dumbed down on top of that. I'd say there's roughly 5 games a year that come out that I'm genuinely excited to play. Starcraft II multiplayer still holds my attention pretty well so I have high hopes for Heart of the Swarm. Atlus rarely lets me down so I'm waiting for Shin Megami Tensei IV. Tickle me curious about Marvel Lego since I'm a big Spider-Man nerd.
Considering the games industry isn't releasing a ton of content that has me excited lately, I've actually been obsessing over cars lately. I've watched about 11 seasons of Top Gear so far, am saving up money to buy a 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo, and just bought myself a 1994 Toyota Celica GT. The GT is going to be my semi-sporty car that handles nicely and safely with its front wheel drive, moves faster than your average car with its 135 horsepower, and gets good gas mileage with its 5sfe engine and has 4 seats for when I need to travel with friends. When the day comes that I buy the MR2 Turbo I'll have my stupid impractical car with its turbocharger, rear wheel drive, 2 seats, and 200 horsepower 5SGTE engine.
What else do you need to know about me? Well I used to be 300 pounds and now I'm 200, and want to return to school in the near future to study to become a nutritionist. Before that I wanted to be a web designer or computer programmer, dropped out of school when I had no natural talent for it, and over time discovered I have a knack for teaching myself and other people about health.
And now you know.
