I still have this on my nintendo 64

downstairs. I remember when I was younger to be scared of the Master Hand for

some reason because it was so creepy.... So that means that I would always beat

the team of minis, giant Donkey Kong, Mario bros, but then I would reset before

reaching the metal foes. Hey, I don't know why either.... While being a great

game, I can not play this game properly on my computer, or any other nintendo

64 games. I tried just trying to beat link, I had to stop playing.

The graphics, I must point out for every nintendo 64 game, aren't top quality.

The characters on this game seem to be somewhat blocky with colors and lines. I

know it doesn't sound smart at all, but just look at mario and link then, to now.
Now with more modern technology available, we are able to create and perfect more precise details on the characters.... Obviously... But

I do give nintendo credit for pulling off such fantastic effects at this time.

It's been a while since I've played this game on an actual console, so I can't accurately rate the sound. However, I do remember some of the themes for maps like star fox and pokemon are ok. They were as decent as the other n64 pokemon and star fox games too so that is a plus. The sound effects of this game do seem to be fine also. The OH and the BWAH and the DOH seem to be in the correct spots.

This game was good at the time when I was a 3rd grader. It is fun, unique, and lets you play as a character from a variety of nintendo protagonists before a game boy was created. The maps too had some technicalities which made the fights more interesting, and then the addition of random items appearing out of nowhere to aid or hurt you. Now, I probably wouldn't play this game because I have Super Smash Bros Brawl. For those who have the game, know that there is much more offered in brawl because of the two decades that have passed of games and possible characters. This is just a prototype, for the grand fights that had yet to come in its time. I would definitely play brawl before playing this.
Sorry.

Sadly, there is no story to this game at all. There is no plot, there is no real climax or beginning that gives some back story to this. The only thing you can do in this is just fight you enemies. It is sad too because games that have potential like this could be ruined by an unconscious mistake. While we kids do want violence and killing in the average game, we do also demand a sort of purpose or reason why you should play to the end. That is my only real criticism to the real game itself. Now that that is over, I can go back to speaking positively about this. There is a ton to do in this. Well not really a ton, but it does give you something to do. There are 8 original characters and 12 in total here, compared to 22 starters and 36 in total in Brawl. While there is a very noticeable difference in available characters to choose from, they do include only 8 important and ORIGINAL characters. For those who have played this game, should already be aware that you can change the difficulty of the game. I give difficulty a 4 since normally I would give it a 4 on the default setting. I'm not exactly sure how many settings there are, but I'm sure you can change from easy, normal, hard. I'm also sure that you can subtract how many lives you have, which does significantly make the game more challenging. I do wish that I could play this properly, but my crappy computer doesn't really allow that, so all I can do is make this review. While the first SSB might not be the best game in the series created so far, it is the foundation for better versions. However, I do prefer the wii SSB any day rather than the n64 version
