An official thread to talk about this years E3 which started today. What are you looking forward to? What do you think about what you've seen so far?

I stayed home from work today (lol) to watch the E3 Microsoft Press conference and plan to watch Sony's and Nintendo's tomorrow.

To be honest, it's going to be really hard for Nintendo or Sony to top off what Microsoft presented today.

Besides showing off some awesome new titles (including 2 new halo games) and also getting the rights to upcoming Metal Gear games and Final Fantasy games (ff13), they revealed the most innovative thing I have ever seen for gaming.

A new attachment for the 360 will let you play some of it's games without a controller - you're body will scanned with it's 3D scanning cameras and all you're body movements will be scanned into the game so that you're every movement is accurately mimicked in the game. This goes way beyond that PS2 thing we saw years ago, this scans the entire room, you're facial expression and accurately and precisely scans even what your hand and fingers are doing and it also supports voice recognition.

Anyways, read more about it in my other thread
https://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/thread.php?id=5410

Another thing they revealed takes away the need for a blu-ray player, with a netflix account, you'll be able to stream movies on your xbox 360 in 1080i quality (which is just as good as blu-ray). Of course, you need a fast internet connection for this. On top of that, they also will be allowing live television as well as music that you can listen to (with their agreement with last.fm).

Don't assume I'm Xbox 360 bias, I do own a Wii and would love to own a PS3. I also plan to watch the live coverage of their Conferences tomorrow, I'm just saying it's going to be really tough to top off what Microsoft did today (lots of awesome new games coming out too).

I'm looking forward to seeing if Sony announces the PSP2. I hope they ditched games with UMDs. I think it'd be cool to have a UMD spot in the PSP2(for backwards compatibility and play PSP movies), but have the games on some sort of cartridge(because discs and handhelds don't go together).
I'd also like to see games that actually cater to hardcore gamers for Wii. Hardcore gamers just don't get enough games anymore

Yeah, I'd like to hear an answer from geeogree's question to lol. 360 did show a lot of games I thought were pretty "hard core" today, at least 5 really sweet titles were displayed that I'd be interested in playing.

I'm also pretty excited to see what Wii game Nintendo has been waiting to reveal to us which is suppose to be another big game based on one of their Characters.

It's ridiculous that Nintendo would even think about releasing another system, was just a couple years ago that they released the Wii. Than again, the Wii itself is so outdated that it might actually be a good move.

Another thing I'm looking forward to is hearing a PS3 price drop.

A hardcore gamer is someone that likes a game that sucks you in, something that...well, I don't actually know the definition of hardcore gamer. Hardcore gamers can also be called real gamers. Most games anymore go to the casual gamer. We weren't social outcasts for years for gaming to suddenly become a damn fad! They're making games that appeal to the "General Audicence" instead of making games that actual gamers would enjoy. Brian knows what I'm talking about...

that's not a very good definition....

I do understand what you mean about games being made for the general audience but techinically nothing about that philosophy has changed if you think about it.

10 years ago the general audience consisted mostly of the "hardcore gamers".... and now the general audience is dominated by more casual gamers. These companies making the games appeal to the larger demographic in order to make more money.... that's just how it works and it's not going to change.

It'd make your life a lot easier if you gave us some examples of "hardcore" games that are already out.

They already announced the new PSP. The PSP Go!
Anyway, I liked the Microsoft's presentation, cant wait for Crackdown 2, L4D 2, and the new MGS game for the 360. Though I think Nintendos only big hit E3 will be Zelda: Spirit Tracks for DS.

Wow, Rasen stuffed up that explaination
Let me try...

Originally, video games had a much smaller (and more devoted) fandom.
In recent years, the demographics have greatly expanded.
What this means is that the general skill level has decreased, as it's no longer the hardcore devoted who are buying the products.
Hardcore gamers (especially roleplaying gamers) often feel cheated that the popularization of video games has lead to a lessening in difficulty.

Now some companys are trying a little bit by including bonus dungeons and the like, but it is hardly the same thing as the main game itself being challenging.
While a uber hard bonus dungeon does in essence bring an element of challenge to the game, some may feel cheated as these dungeons are in no way necessary to complete the game.

Theres nothing like beating an impossible boss to progress the storyline, its a great feeling, and alot better then the one you get from beating the bonus boss as it was important to beat the story boss but not important at all to beat the bonus one.

Anyway on the topic, I havn't heard anything and I dont really care as the good stuff has a terrible chance of even making it to the UK let alone Aust.
To many gimmicks, not enough gaming.
Did they talk about Assasins Creed 2? Now thats a game I'd like to get.
On PC since the alternatives are.... distasteful to me...

I wouldn't mind the ridiculous price of the PS3 if it were completely backwards compatible, but Sony really screwed the pooch on that one. I would be completely satisfied with E3 if they fixed it.
Also, I want some examples of hardcore games.I want to see if I'm hardcore, or one of these "casual gamers" (aka normal ppl) you hate so much.

After watching Nintendo and Sonys press conferences just a few hours ago, this is what I was impressed by and am interested in.

Nintendo:
-Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days looks pretty awesome, especially since it has a multiplayer mission mode
-New Super Mario Bros for the Wii looks awesome, up to 4 players co-op in a retro mario style game is frickin awesome!
-A new metroid game is good news though I doubt I'll play it
-Another Mario Galaxies looks really sweet, though I still need to play the first
-A few other sweat looking games should help make up for the huge selection of bad games on the Wii

Sony:
-PSP Go! could be an improvement from the PSP due to being a lot smaller and probably better battery life. The new PSP unit no longer plays UMD games but instead you download everything - this is good and bad at the same time but overall good since it'll allow you to rent games from PSN and also download the games you buy so you don't have to carry around a lot of other games with you when you travel
-Sony also revealed a very similar technology to what Microsoft revealed yesterday but Sony's seems a lot more limited since you have to hold controllers in your hand
-Final Fantasy 14 of course will be good but I wouldn't doubt it if it makes it to the Xbox 360 since Final Fantasy 13 will
-Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo look good and so did a few others
-Track Studio looked like the most exciting game I saw which is basically a cart racer where not only is your cart and character fully customizable, so is the tracks you race on

Overall, Microsoft still had the best Press Conference but the other 2 weren't far behind. It seemed that while Sony and Nintendo spent a lot of time talking about statistics, their future and other uninteresting stuff, Microsoft showed a lot of sweet looking games and awesome technologies coming our way. Was also disappointed that Sony didn't reveal a Price drop for the PS3 or the PSP but rather a price increase on the new PSP.

No way! A psp go? Download the games? That's retarded. I WAS going to wait to see what type of PSP I should buy(with the extra money I'll get from selling my laptop), and now I know: PSP Slim(seeing as how I have the "Phat" version).

Also, I can't believe that they're already teasing us with FFXIV when we don't even have FFXIII yet. Then again, could be good for business...*shrugs*

Dave: Will the PSP Gay Go have any upgrades like the PSP Slim?(In case you didn't know, PSP Slim has an extra 32megs of RAM upping the RAM to 64megs,therefore making memory-intensive games like Crisis Core play better; It's the only reason I want a PSP Slim)

PSP Go has a 16 GB hard drive and also an expansion slot for more memory. Another problem I see with the unit is teh fact that the screen is smaller and a lot of people are complaining that it's uncomfortable to play with.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
