Ice Hockey for Atari was primitive, but was a big step ahead for sport games. At least it was not as bad as the Golf games. First thing I want to talk about is the story-- oh wait the story is shoot and score OMG never mind. OK then the difficulty is what I will talk about. I can`t choose which angle I want to shoot from! I hold down, but I shoot diagonally right. What the hell? The AI is so unfair, they always win the face off and it`s nearly impossible to stop them from running in the net and shooting. You see, if the arena was bigger, this stuff would not happen!
The game is just hockey. It offers what you should have in a game of hockey. Nothing new here. This is a game that offers a lot and a little. I'm going to go dead even and say for depth, I give a 5.
Now this is where the game gets positive! This is that game where you call your friends over to play non stop for like 2 hrs! This is a fun game to play, but I seriously think they could have made it better.
Sound in this game is pretty good. When you score, you get a beep. I would rather prefer cheering from an audience. The sound does keep the game fun. What I mean is when you mute a game and play it, it feels more boring and really weird. So it`s alright.
Atari`s graphics were considered 4-bit, but there was no such thing. It was like using Scratch, a program where you can make animations. In Scratch, you could just put a few squares together and that would be a character in an Atari game. But at least we can identify who the characters are. One more thing, why is the ice grey? That would make this game Street Hockey!
Anyways, this was a big step ahead for sports games. It was fun, but could have been tweaked a bit more. So final score, 7.3. This is the Hippie saying goodbye, and read my next Hockey Marathon reviews!
