I know it's a difficult decision so I enabled multi voting but please don't vote more than twice. I choose Zelda and Pokémon.

Its gonna be Mario all the way.
He's been out for ever and is still popular over 20 years later.
My next choice would have been Sonic but I never really got into it nearly as much as Mario.
I still play Mario to this day in fact!

I'd say Pokémon is defiantly the best! I would've have chosen Pokémon, Mario, AND Zelda but since you said only vote three times I simply chose my favorite. Pokémon will never ever die! Well, I suppose Mario and Zelda won't either, at least not any time soon.

I understand why three of the options are here, but why Sonic? Sonic is not a Nintendo franchise. Sonic belongs to Sega. Out of these three I prefer Pokemon. I have played those games more than the others. Legend of Zelda comes in a close second.

Zelda is my number one, with Mario as a close second. Pokemon is third and Sonic is fourth.

The Zelda series has always been a source of this creative energy for me, and it really has shaped my life in a lot of ways. I know that sounds intense, but it's true.

At any rate, Zelda first brought me into the world of writing and imagination. I would envision that I was Link, and I would come up with all sorts of crazy stories and adventures that Link would go on, people he would save, the things he would do. When I learned how to write, I was able to transcribe a lot of my thoughts onto paper. While at the time, it wasn't anything to scoff at, it really helped me become a better writer with the ability to accurately and descriptively put my thoughts onto paper. Not only that, but seeing Link as a character in Ocarina of Time really helped bring out the side of me that wants justice against the forces of evil. In that game, Link represents me, he represents you, he represents anyone. And he undergoes many trials, having to adapt and overcome the hellish nightmare that Hyrule has become. And yet he does it, without so much of a complaint or a cry for recognition. Although he is a video game character, his approach to hardship is really the approach we should all take: Just shut up and do it.

The Mario series is second to me. Of all the franchises listed, Mario is the most innovative, ranging from his 2D side scrollers to amazing 3D quests. Super Mario 64 is one of my all-time favorite games because of the variety of things you have to do in order to beat the game. New Super Mario Bros. Wii brought back the old formula of a 2D adventure and threw in obstacles and hurdles, along with teammates, that really gave the game a fresh new experience. Mario Kart has been a staple in racing games, but Mario Kart Wii took it over the edge, with its online play and competitive nature, I really loved to play it. Super Mario RPG, Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga, Paper Mario, those types of games brought the RPG element to the Mario universe, through being fun and having great stories, do a great justice to the RPG genre and gaming in general.

Pokemon is third on my list for a few reasons. First, I have only played the first three generations of Pokemon. I have beaten Red, Blue a few times, Yellow, Gold a few times, Silver, Crystal a few times, and Emerald. Technically-speaking, I have also beat Fire Red. I don't know what generation that falls under.

Anyways, because I haven't played past the third generation, I really can't rate it higher. On top of that, I felt the formula of the games were getting old, and some of the new Pokemon were kind of stale. When the rest of the Pokemon games came out, I was pretty much burnt out, so I really didn't decide to play the next generations. From what I have seen and heard of them, it's pretty much the same thing. That being said, Pokemon X and Y seem to be making a stir, and I might just check them out when they do come out, although I'm a bit concerned that Nintendo might be pumping games out too quickly. Quality rules over quantity, but sometimes business gets in the way of that and quantity becomes the sole priority. And that isn't a pretty concoction. Numbers have essentially bludgeoned the Call of Duty franchise, as the games are stale and the game play is not much different from the first Modern Warfare.

Fourth is Sonic, and my reason for that is that I can't get into the modern games. The side-scrolling Sonic games? I was all about them when I was younger. But the newer games just don't bring the pop that the old school Sonic games did. Even now, though, I can't really play the old school Sonic Games anymore because I like to take my time and enjoy games that I have, looking at the scenery and paying attention to some of the little details, but Sonic games really don't allow you to do that. That's why I have them last on this list.

Sorry it was long-winded, but I like to talk and I like to type. I figured I'd give a detailed response because sometimes, a few words just won't cut it.

No doubt in my mind Sonic is the number 1 to me, a close second would have to be Legend Of Zelda. Mario was okay for me and I lost interest in Pokémon after Silver.

pray75 : Hmm. In my opinion, the new ones are actually great. I'll be honest, hate me, spam me, flame me, the Pokemon get more original as they go along. Black and white have an AMAZING roster that completely topples gen 1. BTW, fire red is gen three.
So the new sonic games aren't good? That said, what do you think about sonic generations?

zelda2 : I'm pretty happy to hear that some of the new ones are good! I guess one of the big things about it is that I'm 22, twice your age according to your profile, so my gaming experience is likely a lot different than yours. I grew up with the first and second generation Pokemon games, so I'll likely always be partial to them because of the nostalgia they bring. That being said, if I happen to get a chance to play Black or White, I'll give it a shot since you're speaking highly of them. Definitely not gonna hate on you for having an opinion, young padawan!

In respect to Sonic, I played a few Sonic games for the Gamecube and just couldn't get into them, and I've read several reviews that are very critical of most of the 3D games. That being said, I haven't played Sonic Generations nor have I read enough about it to really know what to think. I will say, though, that the 3D games just don't do it for me. Things might change if Sega puts out a Sonic game that knocks peoples' socks off, but as it stands, I'm just not interested. If Sonic Generations is that game, then maybe I should check it out, but normally there is a bigger buzz if that is the case. Funny side note, though, Sonic is one of my favorite characters to use in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So it's not like I don't like Sonic as a character, it's that I don't really like the stories associated with the game, nor do I like some of the gameplay mechanics and the other characters that are in the series (AMY!). I think that if Sega did some revamping of the Sonic series, I could really see it taking off again. But to me, the series is not producing at what I think Sega is capable of.

If I were able to vote, I'd select Pokémon and Zelda. However, Mario and Sonic are both wonderful franchises, also. Pokémon has helped me make friends, and without it, I'd still be a very lonely person. The Legend of Zelda, however, has been with me as I was growing up, through good times and bad. It's always good to have a fun game to occupy you when you're bored and excited to play it, but when a family member passes away, I've found solace in some of my Zelda games.

zelda2 : I rather liked the Black and White games, but the Black 2 and White 2 games are better, in my opinion. I admit, my favorites in the series are HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black 2/White 2. I enjoy being able to travel with your Pokémon behind you all the time and having more than eight badges to collect. Yet at the same time, B2/W2 feels like it was designed for me! The female character model is identical to the character I designed for my alter-ego as a child (without the radical hair color, that is) and I've always dreamed of being in movies! Now, they have the studios and I enjoy them so much, my boyfriend asks me to play through his, too, so he doesn't have to! Ha ha.

pray75 : Cool. I might have actually had a similar gaming experience on some parts, I have the actual game carterage of Pokemon yellow, and I've beaten it a number of times. Now, the new Pokemon, I think they actually are getting origional, but you don't have to and might not like them. I mainly think they recieveunnecessary bashing for actually being a good game.

For me its a very easy choice. I have never been a big fan of Zelda, Pokémon is a really good game and one of the only reasons I own a game boy and Mario is an awesome plat former and a true classic but none of them stack up against Sonic the Hedgehog.

Ha ha, I broke the tie. Pokémon deserves the best credit instead of an Elf walking around.. Pokémon is a magical world where you can explore and find new Pokémon.. Pokémon is just too amazing. They worked very hard on Pokémon and had a very good series. They also had very good games such as Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Emerald, Ruby Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver (With Poke walker), Black, White, Black 2, and White 2. Nintendo worked hard creating ALL Pokémon games for people could play, share, and have some enjoyment sometime.

I just retied it.

Black Bot :
The thing about the Legend of Zelda is it really gets you into it.

Pokemon is only fun when you don't grind *cough* "training" *cough*.
The only real reason to play Pokemon is for competitive battling which isn't as newbie friendly as Legend of Zelda .

iN008 : True that. Grind training in Pokemon (or any video game like that, really) is absolutely tedious at times. I like that you don't have to train like that in Zelda, you just have to get used to the control schemes if you haven't ever played them.
