Remember people, the original purpose of this thread is for those that like the game to say why they like it and for the other sides opinions about the game.
We dont need another FF7 love-in please.

One reason it was popular is it was made to appeal to all audiences, instead of the previous RPG gamer target, so alot of people would like it.
But its not really that good if you come from a background of playing every console RPG you could get your hands on.

Oh and I have to disagree with Urso about the soundtrack, I liked the music in other FF games better ("To Zanarkand" from FFX is a favorite of mine).

It may be overrated by fans as an actual "game", like, yeah it wasn't THAT hard or amazing gameplay wise but... I think the story and characters are what really makes it great. I can't think of any other game where I actually liked almost all of the characters.

i would say that FF7 is awesome! Cloud's Buster Sword was also awesome, and the gameplay, storyline, and bosses are all awesome, and make this game.....EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with DH. FF VII is a good game. Don't get me wrong. However, it's not the best FF game, not the best RPG, basically, it's overrated. Now, don't be offended fanboys, but you need to calm down and look at the game more carefully.

FF7 was a great game for many reason some most noteable was the first to bring 3-d graphics to a FF game and second a great mass of memorable characters. But, I find seven to become overrated over the years and that it lost its original luster. Don't get me worng FF7 was one of my faves but I like FF4, tactics, and FF1 better oh and FF9 tied with FF7 for me.

The best characters are often the most misunderstood, a la Vincent Valentine. Cloud is mysterious and cool too but the most twisted by far is of course, the One-Winged Angel Sephiroth. I think its amazing that Tetsuya Nomura made a character that had such a disturbed mind that he thought his mother was an extraterrestrial and that he was driven to madness and yet in a weird way...we all pity him.
